  • Rumor: E3 2009 open to the public, happening in June

There is speculation popping up from several different places this evening that E3 2009 will be held in June at the Los Angeles Convention Center and be open to the public. G4 ran a piece this evening on X-Play (embedded after the break) that the event will be held June 2-4. N'Gai Croal of Newsweek received similar information from a source, but also adds that the event will be open to the public on June 5-6 and the event will be capped at 40,000 attendees. Both G4 and Croal claim an official E3 2009 announcement will be made tomorrow. Just to be very clear, at this point all this information is merely rumor and speculation from sources. The ESA has not made an official statement. We contacted the ESA a few hours ago when we were only aware of the G4 piece running this evening and were informed: "There will be a 2009 E3 and we will announce the details at the appropriate time." At the time the ESA said it had no idea what information G4 was planning to reveal and hadn't commented on the piece. We've contacted the ESA for any official statement and will update as soon as we receive it.Update: Croal has amended his piece to say that the E3 weekend dates, set aside for the public, "may have been incorrect."Source - E3 2009 To Take Place During First Week of June, Be Open To the Public, Attendance Capped At 40,000 [Newsweek]Source - E3 Returning To Past Size And Spectacle In 2009 [G4]

  • G4 moving to HD in December?

It was inevitable, really. G4 clearly targets the young male, and young males clearly prefer their TV to be aired in high-def. After a recent falloff in viewership during Q3 of this year, G4 President Neil Tiles is looking to make moves to get those numbers back up. In fact, he outrightly stated that "as of December, we'll be moving towards an HD offering that will allow us to bridge that gap." Unfortunately, no more details beyond that were given, but suffice it to say, we'll be pretty dismayed if December comes and goes without nary a mention of G4HD. Look, if Spike can go HD, you guys can to. Game on![Thanks, longhairbilly]Update: Seems G4HD is expected by Comcast on December 8th. Thanks, Jeremy!

During an interview with G4, Nintendo's ass-kicking, name-taking pres Reggie Fils-Aime talked about all things Nintendo. Most of the interview focuses on DSi-related stuff, but he does take a second to discuss what the Mario and Zelda teams are up to. What are they up to? More Zelda and Mario, of course! And while we already knew this back at E3, it's nice to hear it reiterated.Head past the break for the 10 minute-long video interview with Reggie.

  • Rumorong: G4 says massive 360 'relaunch' event not happening

    by

    09.11.2008

You just knew that Monday's rumor of a televised "relaunch" for Xbox 360 planned for September 25 on G4 was too good to be true. Although, with everything its sheer madness (hey, we called it!) promised – the New Xbox Experience release; new, free Xbox Classics; huge exclusives revealed – it was one rumor everyone (well, make that "everyone with an Xbox 360 or lack of console favoritism") very much wanted to become fact. Alas, not this time. G4 has flat-out denied plans for any such event – let alone one lasting five hours – with X-Play host Adam Sessler making the rumor (and internet rumors in general) the subject of his latest "Sessler's Soapbox" rant, which you can watch after the break. That is, if your will to continue hasn't been utterly crushed by the busting of this nigh-legendary hoax.[Via X3F]

Earlier in the week, rumor spread quickly across the internets regarding Microsoft's supposed plans to hold a five hour long New Xbox Experience relaunch event aired on G4 TV. An event that would celebrate the rollout of the Fall update, usher in free games, new game announcements and excitement galore. Well, that was total balderdash. Fake, fake, fake! G4's own Adam Sessler confirmed the fact that the network and Microsoft have no plans for an event later this month, going as far as to dedicate his latest episode of "Sessler's Soapbox" to the topic specifically (vid after the break). Sessler not only denies the baseless (but totally awesome) rumor, but goes on to discuss politics and how irresponsible the media can be by not investigating or looking for answers. Damn the media. We always disliked those media folks.

We don't have to tell you how excited we are for House of the Dead: Overkill. After the game was announced, some details managed to escape Leipzig and we've been counting down the days ever since. Studio manager, Bradley Crooks, recently talked with G4 about the Grindhouse-influenced game, including some of the game's features. Also, Bradley says he thinks Overkill "might be the first game to feature a live birth. Or, maybe it's a live unbirth." Sounds disgusting! We love it!G4's player is a pain in the neck, so you'll have to head past the break to check out the video.%Gallery-29952%

G4 has five minutes of direct-feed footage of the upcoming PS3 exclusive from Sucker Punch, inFAMOUS. Needless to say, it looks pretty exciting even in this early state. All footage was captured during E3 -- undoubtedly, it's shaping up even better now. Visit G4 to see inFAMOUS for a full five minutes in glorious HD.

Even though it released last September to a flurry of excitement, it is still the most played game on Xbox Live, still holds crazy ridiculous sales records and still has a loyal fanbase, which is probably why Halo 3 was selected as G4's Gphoria 2008 Game of the Year. Beating out other worthy GOTY contenders like BioShock, MGS4 and CoD4, Halo 3 barely squeaked away a win in the closest Gphoria GOTY vote ever. Decided by less than 40 votes. Watch Bungie's acceptance speak (flaming Recon FTW!) and give a congratulatory shout out to team Bungie. Long live the Halo 3![Thanks, Glitch W]

  • Oldman confirms Dark Knight game, G4 pulls video

[Update: Now with video (thanks, VVP)! Watch Gary Oldman spill the beans after the break. And hey, G4 – you guys totally got that story fair and square, so why pull the video?]Far be it from us to tell Electronic Arts how to run its business, but one would think that announcing a long-since-leaked game based on a hugely anticipated movie which just so happened to premier the very same week of the industry's largest press event would be – what we in the video game blogging business call – "a no-brainer." But, then again, we're not Electronic Arts so, despite being first rumored and then leaked by IGN over a year ago, Pandemic's totally secret adaptation of The Dark Knight did not make its debut during the serendipitous collision of E3 and Batman-mania last week. As if EA's counter-intuitive marketing plan wasn't funny enough, an interview on G4 with Commissioner Gordon himself, Gary Oldman, revealed – surprise! – that a game was indeed in development. Oldman stopped short of naming developer Pandemic or EA, but we all know the score; in response, G4 had the video removed from YouTube as well as their own site. Our favorite part from the interview teaser reel? When Oldman says, "It's hard to make a movie like this under the radar." You know what, we were just thinking the same thing about games ...Source – IGN forumsSource – YouTube video (since pulled by g4 Media, Inc.)

  • Dungeon Runners gets some G4TV love

You remember Adam Sessler right? You know that guy who stands next to Morgan Webb during X-Play? Yeah, there is someone else there, we promise. Anyway, in a recent episode of G4TV's The Download, Sessler reviews NCsoft's Dungeon Runners for the masses. His review doesn't reveal anything new about the game, but it's always nice to see when the larger gaming media covers the games we love so dearly. Plus, in this video, we get to see more of the little Bling Gnome doing his duty, so to speak. What we really find interesting though is the fact that many of the comments seem to revolve around the fact that people haven't heard of this game before. A little publicity never hurt, right?

For those who know of "the giggle loop," we're attempting not to succumb as we earnestly report this information. The Championship Gaming Series (CGS) announced it will begin airing 90-minute episodes exclusively on cable-station G4 beginning July 16.During its inaugural season on DirecTV, CGS CEO Andy Reif says 50 million "cumulative viewers" watched the series. G4 president Neal Tiles believes the competition "is certain to appeal to our viewers." What viewers would those be ... wait, no, must not give in to urges. We wish all the best for the show's ratings on the network. People watch other professional sports, why not this?

We say it's a game for people who enjoy awesome games. But, hey, we're just some internet blog. Although, when you think about it, being on a TV network that nobody watches might be better than being an internet blog that nobody reads. But, we digress. Any favorable exposure for No More Heroes is certainly welcome, because we're absolutely sure that every person that owns a Wii console also needs to own this game. • G4 claims the Trion/Sci-Fi project revolves around Stargate [UPDATED]

While the rest of the MMO community is happily buzzing about what Trion World Network is working on in conjunction with the Sci-Fi Channel, G4's The Feed has come right out and said it: "A Stargate MMO developed by Trion World Network and the SciFi channel is going to be integrated with the Stargate series sometime in 2010."Now, we're not out to immediately call shenanigans on G4, but our interview with Jon Van Caneghem doesn't mention any specific shows, and he should know, so ... where is G4 getting this information? A couple of the commenters for the post have noticed this as well, so we're glad it's not just us.[UPDATE: Our own Mike Schramm, who conducted the interview with Mr. Van Caneghem, had confirmed that this will be a new IP, so that rules out Stargate completely.]

  • G4 original content now available on Xbox Live Marketplace

If you find yourself in the mood to pay to watch G4's gamer-oriented line of television programming, you can now scratch that puzzling itch on the Xbox Live Marketplace, where several of the network's original television programs have been made available for download. These programs include Attack of the Show, snowboard documentary series The Block, and animated comedy series Code Monkeys (which includes a free sneak preview of the show's second season).Oddly enough, X-Play is not one of the shows featured on Microsoft's service, despite the fact that the daily half-hour Sess-fest is one of the highest rated programs on the network. A shame, too -- we would actually dish out some Microsoft buckz to avoid wading through the countless reruns of Fastlane, Cops, Cheaters, and other "gamer-oriented" programs to watch the oft-renamed program. Alas, we must continue to suffer the seemingly limitless douchebaggery of Joey Greco.

Microsoft recently announced that G4 TV has added a part of their television lineup to the U.S. Video Marketplace, of which two shows are already available for purchase. G4's animated series Code Monkeys, snowboarding reality show The Block and daily tech news show Attack of the Show (sorry, no X-Play) are all up for purchase for 160 Microsoft points each. Though, for whatever reason, Attack of the Show is currently missing in action. Also, as an introductory promotion, G4 is offering up Code Monkeys' "Dave's Got Boobs" episode for free, so grab the 242MB episode if you're interested.[Thanks, StLouisRibs7734]

  • Rock Band to get whippy good Devo DLC

    05.26.2008

In an interview with G4's X-Play, Mark Mothersbaugh, member of the 80's red hat wearing group Devo, confirmed that Devo will in fact be releasing three tracks to the Rock Band DLC library. Though, Mothersbaugh kept his cards close and didn't reveal which Devo tracks they'll be releasing, when they'll hit the XBLM or for how much. But one thing that's nearly certain is that one of their Rock Band releases will be the uber hit "Whip It". Because if they put out a three pack of DLC and don't include "Whip It", then we and thousands of fanboys will have to perform a Devo Rock Band DLC boycott. And yes, Devo, that is a threat.[Via Joystiq]

The deluge of coverage for Age of Conan continues to overwhelm us all, and that's a good thing. Sure, there are the legions of ravening fans who were going to pick this title up no matter what as soon as it became available, but there are a good number of you still on the fence out there. Perhaps sensing this, G4's The MMO Report has gone to the effort of putting together their Age of Conan Special, wherein they interview AoC designer Jason Stone. On the show Stone talks about how AoC distinguishes itself from its competitors, notably through its combat scheme, the in-development anti-griefing 'Bounty Prison' system, weapon-specific fatalities, and the stacking debuff death penalty. Check out the embedded interview after the jump.Best exchange of the interview -- Jason: "So you can say whatever you want to me ... and be a complete dick." Casey: "As I would."[Thanks, Kristina!]

As part of a thank you note to its fans, videogame-themed television brand G4 has announced that it will bring back a host of favorite past shows for the Summer. Among these shows are the classics Arena, Judgement Day, and Portal. For those who missed it the first time around, Portal is the story of a guy named Dave, who was responsible for managing the Hub, an entrance to the various online MMO worlds of the day.The shows will re-air beginning June 2nd as the G4 Rewind series, and will run until August 29th. Given that there are considerably more MMOs available these days, it's possible that Portal could enjoy a second chance, depending on its reception with the viewing audience. If this happens, we'd bet the show will have to rename itself to avoid confusion with the Valve game of the same name. Sure, the show came first, but walk into any geek gathering and see which property gets the recognition when mentioned.

The more of The Agency we see, the more interested we get. G4's X-Play recently showed off two new videos featuring more in-depth looks at gameplay than we've gotten to see previously. In speaking with Director of Development Matt Wilson and Designer Hal Milton, we get to see glimpses of various elements, such as cool spy gadgets a la James Bond's Q, and how the Operatives can help you in your missions. We've got both videos after the jump, and you'll find them in larger resolutions on G4's site.[Thanks, Steven!]
