  • First Bad Company 2 trailer light on gameplay, heavy on death

Light on gameplay but heavy on murder the first trailer for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 got "world exclusive" status on this week's GameTrailers TV (after the break).Showcasing the cycle of "smoke a cigarette, kill a dude, get killed yourself" in a MadWorld-esque aesthetic, we can't help but wish for actual gameplay footage from the game -- the first Bad Company 2 screen was madness! We'll expect to hear more from publisher EA and developer DICE as we near E3 2009 in June. More on murder, that is.

  • First unofficial PlayOn media server plugin caught in action

Taking advantage of the latest update to the PlayOn media server software, this YouTube video claims to capture the first unofficial plugin which enables users to easily browse GameTrailers.com trailers on their TV. Greater functionality should make the $39.99 fresh-out-of-beta pricetag a little easier to swallow, seeing GameTrailers (and its overcompressed "HD" videos) listed on a PlayStation 3 menu next to ESPN, Hulu, Revision3 and other supported services may not be incredibly impressive off the bat but it does bode well for the future of this DLNA streaming package.[Thanks, Jackson]

  • Bronze Orc statue footage via GametrailersTV

We've already seen pictures of Blizzard's bronze Orc statue finally arriving on their campus courtesy of the OCRegister, but Gametrailers TV has done one better: Video. The clip, while brief, has really been making the rounds through the community. I can see why! Even though it's only a short glimpse, it gives a much better sense of scale than pictures did. It's some fairly heavy duty equipment swinging the pieces of the statue around! It's really a shame that Blizzard (or someone doing it on their behalf) didn't film the whole thing for us to watch, I really would have loved to have seen it. This statue has been hyped up quite a bit for awhile now, it's sort of a shame that the 'ceremony' wasn't very easy for most of us to see.My favorite line about this particular statue came from Mike Morhaime at BlizzCon 08, long before it actually appeared on their campus. I don't remember the exact quote anymore, but he said something to the effect of, 'The statue is going to be cast from solid bronze. Long after all of us are dead, that statue will still be floating around somewhere. Thousands of years from now, an archeologist will dig it up and think to themselves, 'Wow, humans were ugly back then.' Many thanks to everyone that's sent this link in over the last day or so!

  • DC Universe Online video shows open PvP gameplay as a villain

Most of the video footage seen of DC Universe Online to date focuses on the setting's iconic heroes and the role a player can take in assisting them. While taking down the bad guys in a game is fun, sometimes it's good to be bad, as the newest gameplay footage we've seen of DCUO from New York Comic Con shows us.We were pretty excited when we noticed this over at Limited Edition today and it's certainly worth a look if you're into the superhero games genre. The GameTrailers video is a walkthrough of an open PvP area, from the perspective of a psychotic clown with psi-blasts, blazing speed, and freakish strength. Need I say more? Check out the video embed below for a look at DC Universe Online's PvP mixed in with developer commentary on what you're seeing.

  • A violent look at Resident Evil's survival horror past

Using a laser sight we point you in the direction of GameTrailers' educational retrospective series that pulls back the eyelids of the Resident Evil franchise. Part one of the (alleged) six part zombie-retrospective, "Horror Stories", takes a stroll through Resident Evil's history, how it pioneered the survival horror genre and how laughably bad the voice acting was.Putting aside all discussion regarding the direction Resident Evil 5 has taken with its control mechanics, the video will evoke deep rooted nostalgic feelings and renew your phobia of human-sized arachnids. It did for us. Once comfortable -- and with an ample supply of herbs by your side -- find the 17+ minute video after the break.

There's been a lot information coming out of CES 2009 concerning DC Universe Online, but it's all been text up until recently. Gametrailers has a three part video walkthrough that details things like character creation philosophy, combat, movement powers and even a fight alongside Superman himself. If that's not putting your tights in a tizzy, we're not really sure what will. From the looks of things, DC Universe Online is certainly making good progress. We've been seeing the new player models for a couple of days now, but this is the first time in a while that we've seen any movement/attack animations. The newly added acrobatics travel power reminds us a lot of super leaping in City of Heroes, only with the added benefit of air-dashing, wall-grabbing and double-jumping. We're also digging the death penalty, or lackthereof, and how players can rally back from a knockdown if allies are nearby. Did you enjoy this? We've donned our capes and tights to explore SOE's DC Universe Online in-depth. Come explore more of Metropolis and Gotham with your friends at Massively!

  • World of Warcraft's birth and development chronicled by video retrospective

GameTrailers put together a three-part series of Warcraft retrospective videos in the days leading up to the launch of World of Warcraft's Wrath of the Lich King expansion, and WoW was the focus of the third and final episode. In over 20 minutes, the video looks at the early MMOs and influences that led to the creation of WoW, the project's beginnings in discussions between Blizzard guys while they were playing EverQuest, and of course, the game itself. In addition to listing the distinct features that made WoW successful, the restrospective provides an overview of its post-launch history, up through The Burning Crusade's launch. Everything from Onyxia raids to the ever-changing PvP Honor system is covered. If you're a hardcore WoW addict, little of it will be new information, but if you're just getting started or a casual user, you'll probably learn a thing or two. See the vid embedded after the break.[Via WoW Insider]

  • WoW Moviewatch: Warcraft Retrospective, pt III

There could be few other videos as meaningful today as GameTrailers' Warcraft Retrospective, Part III. We're only twelve hours away before we can attend Wrath opening parties, get our grubby hands on a copy, and rush home to install it. It's not like I have a stopwatch on my desk, with the "tick tick tick" counting down until I can make a purchase. This isn't machinima. And if you're a regular reader of WoW Insider, there's not a lot of information here that's going to blow your socks off. (Except, maybe, the reminder that the Honor system has had some painful, painful changes.) But that's not the point of the retrospective -- the point is to take a moment and look back at the history of Warcraft.Viewed through that light, I enjoyed the retrospective. I had the good fortune to be playing even in the original beta, and right up to now, to be able to enjoy the release of Wrath tonight. There's a few things I might have liked to see mentioned that didn't make the cut, like good ol' Captain Placeholder. But they only had so much time, and I enjoyed the nostalgia for its own sake. Additionally, it'd make a great "introduction" to any luddites who haven't already heard of WoW, so the video's got a little utility in that regard also.If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

Here's an interesting fun fact. The aptly-named GameTrailers.com has just donned a "GT Diamond Award" to Sony Computer Entertainment. Why? Because the GT community has invaded SackBoy's privacy over 10 million times. That's a 1 with a lot of zeroes after it."Since LittleBigPlanet grabbed the spotlight at GDC 2007, our community has been eager to dive in and start living out their dreams of being game designers," said Shane Satterfield, editor-in-chief of GameTrailers.com. "With LittleBigPlanet, Sony and Media Molecule delivered a groundbreaking game that is also very entertaining, and we're happy to deliver the Diamond Award to such a deserving game.""Winning the GameTrailers Diamond Award is a real honor for the whole team at SCEA and Media Molecule," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Product Marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment of America. "We're thrilled that the GT community enjoys the creativity and innovation in the game as much as we do."The PS3 Fanboy community has helped LBP win the award, thanks to a number of videos we featured from the GT site. Of course, now that the game is out for all to enjoy, put down your binoculars and start playing!

Gametrailers' Warcraft Retrospective continues with episode two focusing on the events and gameplay mechanics of Warcraft III. The piece covers WC III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion, The Frozen Throne, but also delves into the Defense of the Ancients mod and its infamous Euro pop music video. The next installment in the series will delve into the 11 million player strong phenomenon that is World of Warcraft. We're expecting that episode to be 90+ minutes -- not really, but it could be.

Do you find yourself with a good quarter-hour to kill this Sunday evening? Do you have a relatively fast internet connection? Are you curious about the mythos of the Fallout universe -- curiosity spawned from excitement over Bethesda's upcoming entry into the franchise, Fallout 3? Do you have absolutely no plans to go back and play the earlier installments in said franchise, and therefore have no hangups over having the plots of said games spoiled for you? If the answer to all of the above questions is an exuberant "yes", you really have no reason not to check out Gametrailers' Fallout Retrospective, which we've posted after the break. Unless, of course, you were lying earlier -- in which case, this conversation is over.

GameTrailers' excellent retrospective series is back this week with two new installments for different game franchises. The first new series its premiering is the Warcraft Retrospective, which has its debut episode (in the four-part series) covering the original two installments in the Warcraft RTS series. It's hard to recall Warcraft ever being a humble RTS series considering the behemoth World of Warcraft has become.GT will also premiere a one-part Fallout retrospective this Saturday, Oct. 25. The episode will cover the evolution of the series from its days at Interplay to the current, Bethesda-helmed Fallout 3. The first episode in the Warcraft Retrospective can be found after the break.

The fine folk over at Gametrailers.com are preparing for Wrath of the Lich King in their own, fun little way. And by little, I mean totally awesome. They've posted the first part of their Warcraft Retrospective, looking back on the history of the Warcraft series of games. This first installment talks a little about Warcraft I, Warcraft II, and the adventure game Warcraft Adventures that ended up getting canned. On top of the nostalgia-riddled look at past incarnations of Warcraft, the retrospective provides insight into the origins of things such as the RTS genre itself and perhaps one of the first map editors that ended up in user hands, setting the stage for just about every RTS to start providing one baseline. Entertaining and educational! Uh, sort of. I really do recommend watching it, though. It's only a click away, so go on! Hit play![ Thanks, Ray, James and Colyn! ]

Fancy a look at just a few of upcoming space-based survival horror Dead Space's weapons? Then you're in luck. GameTrailers has three videos, each showing one of the game's weapons in action. Our favorite? The Line Gun. Using it to slice through enemies looks extremely visceral and satisfying. Having said that we have a soft spot for the Pulse Gun's secondary fire too.In reality, it's just an excuse to watch more gameplay footage, which we're always happy to do. Dead Space will be out in less than a month, so this is a perfect way to ramp up the hype a bit. The videos can be found after the cut.

It's safe to say that there are a lot of sci-fi MMO fans out there who would appreciate a game that incorporates dogfighting into a space-based title. Jumpgate Evolution is shaping up to be that game, from what we've seen thus far of its combat. We've been following Jumpgate Evolution for a while now, and Massively's Kyle Horner recently interviewed NetDevil producer Hermann Peterscheck about the upcoming title. New video footage of the game, captured at PAX 2008, is now found at GameTrailers. The video shows off combat taking place within a massive asteroid belt. Have a look at the video below the cut, and let us know if you think Jumpgate Evolution seems to be your type of game.

  • Bionic Commando and Rearmed comparison videos

    08.22.2008

GameTrailers has put together another one its "totally bias" videos comparing Bionic Commando Rearmed to Bionic Commando. We're sure the NES fanboys are already all in a twitter about how Capcom was too lazy to port Rearmed to the NES and how this is an unfair juxtaposition of the two games. Capcom totally should have made a port of Rearmed for the NES so GT could make a proper comparison video. Quick, someone start an online petition to rectify this! It's all so unjust! Check out Part 1 of the comparison video above and Part 2 after the break. Sweet mercy, look at the graphics on the NES! It's like two Atari 2600s duct-taped together.

As Bionic Commando Rearmed's release reminded us today: Many games are just difficult by design. Gametrailers apparently had some prescience about our feelings on the subject and yesterday released a video featuring its list of most difficult games. The video is packed with some of the most controller destroying titles in memory. Pretty sure many of you out there can join us in a moment of silence for all the friendships ruined over playing Battletoads co-op during the hoverbike level. Check out the video after the break.

The first expansion to Lord of the Rings Online has gotten a cinematic trailer today via Gametrailers. If you know your Lord of the Rings, then there really isn't anything in this trailer that's going to surprise you. And while it would have been nice to have seen some of the new features, well, featured, we're happy to get something regardless. Plus, it's cool to get a taste of what we can expect once the install disc stops spinning and we log in on release day. If there's one really cool thing to be taken from this trailer, it's the revealing of the box art for the expansion towards its conclusion. The design features a certain gray wizard facing an infamously awesome Balrog, which, now that we think about it seems like a no-brainer. Hopefully, the next trailer we're all treated with will show some gameplay of either new areas or even the two classes being added to the game.

  • Comparison vid showcases similarities between Resident Evil 4 and 5

There's an old adage that goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." GameTrailers user WiiSixty has compiled a video featuring segments of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 gameplay to showcase the similarities between everything from reload animations to enemies spinning like a top from a well-placed bullet from both titles. The question lighting up message boards is whether or not Resident Evil 5's continuation of "the same thing" is well advised or not. Is it possible we're jumping to conclusions and calling the Resident Evil 5 gameplay mechanics old because of the substantial changes RE4 made to the series? Maybe with games like Gears of War and Army of Two borrowing those mechanics we're all a little burnt out on them. Honestly, it doesn't matter much to us. Resident Evil 5 looks solid so far and with the addition of online co-op play we can't wait to check it out this March.Ordinarily we'd embed the video in this post but GameTrailers seems to be having some embedding issues. Check it out here.[via Joystiq]
