Washington Wizards basketball star Gilbert Arenas has admitted to boosting ... his Halo score. Arenas confessed to The Washington Post that he has been boosting his Halo rank through fake social matches where he'll end up number one. Arenas says, "It's a glitch in the game. I seen some kids that were like 600s, they won 600 Halo games and we only had that game for two weeks. And all the kids go to school. So I'm like, 'What the hell you all doing?' And they said that's what they doing, two-on-two."Arenas' gamertag profile on Bungie.net tells the boosting tale in great detail. Just to be clear, this is only an artificial boost, since he was manipulating "social" rather than "ranked" matches. His skill rating hasn't improved. Sure, it's silly -- and damn funny -- that the NBA 2K lovin' Arenas (even though he's the NBA Live cover athlete) boosted his Halo score, but at least it shows he cares and worked for his "fake" rank.[Thanks Andrew; via WashingtonPost]

Washington Wizards basketball player Gilbert Arenas may be getting the greatest gift a basketball player, who also happens to be a gamer, can get -- the cover to this year's NBA Live. According to the Washington Times the guard beat out LeBron James for the cover. Arenas had previously quipped last year during the hype to get a PS3 for launch that if he name dropped that he was LeBron James he'd have gotten a system early.Sadly, Arenas tore his knee earlier this month and won't play the rest of the season. Well, while he recovers he can check out his picture on the cover of NBA Live and play with himself ... er, control himself in the game. Now that he's made the cover of NBA Live, if Arenas wants to get ambitious and show he's the true gamer/athlete he can pick up soccer and football to make the covers of FIFA and Madden over the next couple years. N'Gai Croal of Newsweek reports that even Washington Wizard's point guard Gilbert Arenas can't get a Wii or PS3 using that most powerful of skills: Celebrity. Arenas writes on his blog that if he had called up stores saying he was LeBron (LeBron James) or D-Wade (Dwyane Wade) that he would have gotten a system. We're going to go out on a limb here and guess that if Arenas wants a console bad enough he'll have no problem scoring one on eBay, considering his six-year contract, expiring in 2009, will earn him $65 million. N'Gai Croal ends his piece advocating for Sony or Nintendo to, "Hook a brotha up." Wish N'Gai would advocate to hook us and a couple readers up while he's advocating for multi-million dollar earning athletes.
