We know very little about God of War III, other than it's coming. The trailer shown at E3 did little more than confirm that (though it seems that Kratos looks extra angry in HD). Now we know a little more of what to expect from the game, thanks to writer Marianne Krawczyk revealing at the Austin GDC that the script for GOWIII might run up to 120 pages. That's a lot of words for a character who doesn't say a lot. Apparently the game will be a "very specific three-act experience," meaning we can look forward to a beginning, middle and an end. That's good to know, considering too many games seem to follow the "opening sequence, game, closing sequence" format. Thankfully it seems that the PS3 isn't just allowing for improved gameplay experiences, but improved storytelling, too. Fine by us, bring it on.

We always appreciate the sort of video game trailer that can take time out of its self-absorbed, snappily edited posturing to teach us something valuable. Take this brief God of War III announcement trailer, for instance, which handily sums up the entirety of history in just a few seconds, bookending thousands of years with sheer, unrelenting chaos. Thanks for the lesson, Kratos.

Kratos is going to kick some Ancient Greek ass on the PS3. Sony just showed a CGI trailer confirming that its popular action series is coming to the monolithic console. God of War 3 will be released sometime "after this holiday season," so don't expect it until at least next year.

EuroGamer.pt (translation) reports that God of War III will be shown at E3 next month. The site was apparently informed of this by a Sony representative at the Interactive & Digital Entertainment Festival, currently being held in Paris.Don't get too excited -- even if the rumor is true, it doesn't mean GoW III will unleash bloody vengeance against the Titans this year. Although a release date is pure speculation at this point, some rumors report the launch to be next Christmas, while certain retailers have given it a placeholder release of next March.

  • God of War team recruits online programmer

A job posting for an Online Gameplay Programmer to join "the team behind the critically acclaimed AAA titles God of War and God of War II" (oh, just say it: the team developing God of War III) suggests that Kratos' next romp in Neverland may require some expertise in networking protocols and architectures. You know, give the ol' Ghost of Sparta a playable sidekick, some comic relief. Recall that at the God of War II launch, Cory Balrog (this was before he bounced from SCEA) said co-op was being considered for the third console game, at least, in theory: "If we can do something unique with [co-op], yeah, but it is really an early exploration of that in my head really. It's not even a discussion with the team." Obviously, Barlog got around to planting that seed before he departed. The listing does include a rather ambiguous disclaimer though, which potentially disavows the job altogether: "Please be advised that the following job description may not reflect a position that is currently available. This job description may exist to simply gather interest, and may or may not ever become an approved open position." Whatever, we all know that next-gen AAA ain't "next-gen AAA" without online co-op, right?

  • Rumor: God of War III going online

A recent posting on SCEA's recruitment website points out that the team who've worked on God of War and God of War II are looking for an "online gameplay programmer." Now it's not stated that this hire or the online gameplay feature are specifically for the upcoming PS3 title God of War III; however, if the games mentioned in the job ad are any indication, then all the signs are pointing to Kratos' next adventure.Online play for a God of War game will be an interesting sight to see. How will it work? Will the game then change its name to "Gods of War"? In any case, we'll wait it out and see how things develop. Let's just hope that God of War III will be one of the next games to congest and crash servers. You knew that was coming. [Via CVG]

  • God of War III coming 'soon'

While we've known that God of War III has been in development since Cory Barlog let it slip in early November, we haven't heard anything about it since then. Now, IGN have spotted a teaser advert for the game on the back cover of God of War: Chains of Olympus' retail manual. Not only does it confirm the game's existance for a second time, but it says that it will be "Coming Soon". Considering that we weren't expecting to see God of War III before 2009, we're surprised that Sony are claiming that the game is coming "soon." Does this mean that we could be getting two Kratos adventures this year? No doubt we'll learn more later in the year at either Sony's Gamer's Day (whenever that lies this year) or at E3.

  • Rumor: God of War III waits until Christmas 2009

After flexing his muscle in last year's God of War 2, Kratos may need to take a little break. Games Radar is claiming (via Games World UK) that inside sources tell them God of War 3 won't be released until at the earliest Christmas 2009. That date seems to fall under common sense, given that two years passed between the first two God of War titles and the next iteration is taking a leap to the more technically-proficient PlayStation 3. An earlier rumor from EGM suggested the game would come out this Christmas alongside an also-rumored release of Gears of War 2. The third God of War, sans outgoing lead developer Cory Barlog, is expected to feature ultra-fancy graphics, motion controls and rumble.

  • Cory Barlog says God of War III in good hands

Cory Barlog, lead developer on God of War II, wrote in his blog today that God of War III is in good hands. Barlog says Sony's Santa Monica team is very talented and he already did the story and design for the third game before parting ways with Sony, he says Kratos' finale will end with a "very big, very epic bang though."Barlog doesn't give any indication what he's currently working on, simply saying he's "cooking up several things." Poor Kratos seems to chew up and spit out his lead developers. All we need now is the Ready at Dawn lead on God of War: Chains of Olympus to quit after production and we'll have a bona fide curse on our hands -- it'll be the Madden curse of action games.[Via GameDaily]

  • Today's most fan-made God of War III video

Headline doesn't make sense to you? Obviously, you've been missing Joystiq's nightly "today's most" videos. It's okay, we're a better blog anyway. When we saw KazamaFury's self-made God of War III promo video, we were blown away by the professional quality of this teaser. Sure, there's no footage of God of War III to be found (that would be impossible). Regardless, it tantalizes and makes the years-long wait for the inevitable sequel slightly more painful.

  • God of War 3 has not begun production, other games take precedence

It seems the director of God of War II, Cory Barlog, wants to pay attention to other projects before the much-anticipated God of War III makes any sort of debut. On his blog, he talks about a lot of things, but he mentions how he's not paying attention to the trilogy and instead is working on his very own RPG opus -- A Family Ties game. Or something. So for those of you who were expecting some kind of surprise at E3 or Tokyo Game Show, we hate to be the bearers of bad news, but you'll be waiting a while to see Kratos and the Titans crushing the crap out of Olympus. Unless Sony pulls a Kojima and replaces Kratos with a different, less gruff and manly character. Possibly a Roman who likes to comb his hair and do cartwheels. That would be most unfortunate! We don't need another Raiden. Or ... do we?[via CVG]

David Jaffe **BLEEP**ing talked to GameTrailers.com in the Playboy Mansion about developing on the PLAYSTATION 3 and PSP. He reveals that he'd love to make God of War III on the PLAYSTATION 3, if given the chance. He also makes note of the mistakes he's made. Firstly, he states that God of War's battle system is not as good as Devil May Cry's (agreed). And he also admits that his canceled PSP project, "Project HL," was really axed not because of the PS3, but because it wasn't progressing very well:"I just **BLEEP**ed up my game on the PSP, it wasn't any good! That's true! There wasn't a **BLEEP** rumor!"The full video interview is available, after the break. Obviously, if you didn't **BLEEP**ing notice, it features some profanity.[Via Joystiq]
