I pull up, and a gentleman hands me a slip: 11.287 seconds. That's how quickly I covered a quarter mile at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, from a dead stop, in the 2020 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500. I whisper "dammit" under my breath because this 760-horsepower machine will do that run in 10.7 seconds.

GT5 is finally, finally out, but amazingly it seems to have beaten its official steering wheel to market. For a long time Logitech has maintained the honor of building the wheel that carried Gran Turismo branding, and indeed its Driving Force GT is still the first wheel in the GT5 options. But, Thrustmaster seems to have secured the license for the franchise now and is building a wheel called the T500RS which, if you go Thrustmaster.com, you can get a quick peek of -- or you can just look at the screengrab above. The wheel promises unrivaled accuracy and what looks to be the same sort of magnetic sensor technology used in the company's overwhelmingly beefy HOTAS Warthog controller. Rumors say it'll carry a similar price, too, a whopping $500 MSRP without the optional H-pattern shifter and, though our attempts to confirm anything were shooed away like so many fruitflies, we've been promised more info to come at CES.

Want a peek at a phone you'll almost certainly never have the opportunity to own? Look no further than T-Mobile UK for the GT500 from LG where the well-equipped HSDPA full touch handset that we've been tracking for a while now is apparently now shipping. Headlining features include a 5 megapixel cam with image stabilization, AGPS, tethering capability, 130MB of onboard storage, and microSD expansion (though really, what phone in 2009 doesn't have a microSD slot besides the Pre, the iPhone, and a weird Pantech here and there?). Rumors persist that this might eventually show up on Rogers, so one way or another, you're probably going to have to end up in a Commonwealth nation if you want this thing badly enough.

  • Rogers getting the 5 megapixel LG GT500?

Juicy XML metadata on LG's own site suggests that the GT500 -- which has yet to be officially announced for any market, though it was originally rumored for T-Mobile in Europe -- should be destined for Rogers at some point. That's pretty awesome news for Canadians of all shapes and sizes, considering the spec sheet has this one rolling deep (well, somewhat deep) with 3G, a 5 megapixel cam, and a WQVGA touchscreen. The only GT500 we've seen pass the FCC so far only received approval on EDGE bands, suggesting that Rogers will have to wait for a second version with North American 3G or forge ahead with EDGE alone; for everyone's sake, we're hoping they take the former option.
