If you're reading this, it's probably well into Thanksgiving Day, which makes me wonder why you are reading this -- it's Thanksgiving Day! Perhaps you're playing catch-up while you finish up that slice of pumpkin pie. Or maybe you're back home, raiding the fridge for a late night turkey snack and a quick MMO update. Whatever your reason, there are many things that we can be thankful for when it comes to our MMOs. We've come a long way when it comes to guild-friendly features, and it's worth taking a look at in this week's Guild Counsel.

Not enough side-scrolling manga-style beat-'em-ups in your life? Elsword aims to remedy that, and the title's closed beta is rapidly nearing an end. According to a new Kill3rCombo email blast, open beta is just around the corner and the servers will be up and running at midnight PDT on April 27th. You can download the client right now, and the game will automatically patch to the new open beta version as soon as the servers come up. The new public testing period will also see Elsword's item mall open for business, and guild features (as well as consumable items) will be enabled. You can learn more about the title at the game's official website as well as via our recent hands-on impressions piece.

April 28th marks release day for Mythos, the long-in-development mythology-inspired hack-and-slash MMO. As a prelude, HanbitSoft and Frogster have released a massive patch to the game's current open beta client that, among other things, raises the level cap to 50 and introduces a new explorable region called the Umbral Peaks. Dungeon play has also been optimized for groups according to a Frogster press release, and the client has received a "comprehensive localization update." Finally, lots of new guild-centric features have made it into the current build, chief among them a guild message board, storage safe, and a guild ranking system. You can download the open beta client for free -- and learn more about the game -- at the official Mythos website.

  • Which guild tools make SOE's Community Influencers tick?

SOE called on their Community Influencers (a term which is defined near the beginning of this post) a while ago to get some feedback about guild tools in the games they play. The result was a document, "Fundamental Guild Tools", which lists all the most desired features of the Influencers group. Not all of these ideas are in SOE's games yet, but if they made it on to the document, chances are that they will be seen some time in the near future.Looking through the list, there is a lot of focus on having features extend to outside of the game: being able to chat with guild members both in text and voice from the Station Launcher, checking guild mail without being logged in to the game, in-game message boards that can be viewed from out of the game, etc. Some suggested features that aren't in SOE's games right now are available in rival MMOs, and the fact that the term "RvR" appears on the document shows that at least someone had one of Mythic's games in mind -- but as is the way with games of all genres, if there's a good new idea or feature, it's probably going to be adopted by others later on. Have a browse through the full article to get an idea of what a guild in an SOE game will likely have access to down the track.

  • Guild Achievements may be incoming to WoW in the future

For those of you who group, raid, and otherwise hang out with your guild, here's some pretty cool news for you. Tigole has said over on the Beta Suggestion Forms that the dev team is very interested in the idea of guild achievements, and does plan to visit them in the future. It's a small tidbit, but it's enough to get the old wheels turning. The most obvious achievements will probably revolve around dungeons and raids. Get X% of your guild through a certain dungeon, perhaps, or finish the dungeon in an all-guild group. We might also see accomplishments for getting a certain amount of guild members their tier sets or legendary weapons.
