The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness shout-outs to players who make your WoW sessions memorable. As a WoW Insider spouse discovered last night, things change in the world of WoW information. This guy, we'll call him Bean, was working on a heroic and needed to get the rundown on a boss fight. Acting out of years of habit, he loaded up WoWWiki on his PC and immediately picked up a virus. (It's important you keep an eye out on your security, too. Do you have an authenticator, as well? If not, you should get one.) There are other options out there for you. Wowpedia is run by the admins who left WoWWiki back in October 2010. Learn to Raid is a fantastic video resource for many fights. Of course, WoW Insider also has you covered with ongoing guides to things like dungeons and raids (in our Guide to Cataclysm), holidays like Children's Week, game lore, and tons of other information.

The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness shout-outs to players who make your WoW sessions memorable. Two incredibly popular machinima makers have recently returned to make their mark on the WoW community. I'm only listing them in alphabetical order here. Myndflame has been incredibly busy, from some new songs to a full album. If you've got some time or a few loose pennies, take the time to swing by Myndflame and support their art. One of the best ways to get more of this creativity into the community is to help out the people doing the art, and Myndflame is certainly deserving. Yumfries is also back with a new video called STUFOOH! The video has some adult concepts and blue comedy, so be warned that it's not necessarily appropriate for work. Yumfries has always had some ironic commentary about the community and its "celebrities," and Nub Tales has been especially insightful. STUFOOH! is probably going to be a little controversial, but it's worth the watch.

The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness shout-outs to players who make your WoW sessions memorable. We'll start off this week directly with some community news. Congratulations to Victorious Secret on snagging their Realm First level 25 and this awesome video that goes with it. You have to respect a guild video that leads off with Final Countdown. The epic achievement deserves that most epic of anthems. A new video series called The Serious Gamer is focused on improving player communication and politeness. Check out their first episode and let them know what you think.

Raidbots is now parsing huge amounts of data from World of Logs. More importantly, Raidbot is parsing all the data from World of Logs, which means the site can provide a much deeper field of information. Trying to figure out what the average DPS might be for your class across all the WoL raids? They can do that. These charts are a lot of fun to play with. It helps you get a good idea of what your damage should be, assuming you have comparable gear. Take the time to check out the site and have some fun.

The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness shout-outs to players who make your WoW sessions memorable. As part of the season finale to The Jace Hall Show, new lyrics have been added to the gamer anthem I Play W.O.W. Not only are these lyrics a nice acknowledgment of Cataclysm, but they're equally a homage to the folks who follow Jace's work. The whole episode is pretty good, but I think the new lyrics really stood out. While I can't imagine they'll recreate the entire video just to feature the new lines, I hope they find a way to string the original song and the new lyrics together. They're a strong addition to I Play W.O.W., and it'd be cool to hear it all on the same MP3.

  • The Classifieds: Keep plugging away for guild recruitment

The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness shout-outs to players who make your WoW sessions memorable. Recruiting to expand your guild can be a pain in the neck. It's a hard task. You have to balance the need to get additional folks versus the need to preserve the unique character of your existing group. It's difficult to tell if new recruits will blend well and fit into your group. And, after all, you have to get those new folks' attention somehow. There are a few things you can do to stand out. First, don't sweat listing things like having a tabard or a guild bank. People know that. Make sure you describe your guild's character in short phrases. "Progression," "casual," and "family-friendly" are all words that pack a meaningful punch. You don't need to say things like "balance life and game," usually, because that's almost always a standard. Try and include some really unique stuff that might reach beyond the basic game: "We spend time talking about comics," or "Guild chat is like an engineering conference." These are the things that will help extend your guild's character beyond just basic in-game stuff. Mostly, keep plugging away. Don't give up on recruiting; it can happen, but it takes time.

The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness shout-outs to players who make your WoW sessions memorable. 15 Minutes of Fame focused last week on a guild that raids without knowing strats beforehand. Since then, The Classifieds has received several emails from players who want to raid with other folks who are interested in that style of play. If you're looking for players who want to tackle content fresh and "blind," make sure to let us know. There are players specifically interested in that; let's get this happening! Poor Impulse Control has already said it might be looking for folks and are open to hearing from folks. Be sure to check them out.

  • The Classifieds: Raiding with band members

As the story goes, Solar Wind of Dragonblight (EU-A) raids with a pair of band members from the group Area 11. Since the band is relatively new, the guild promised to use Area 11's first song, Euphemia, in a video featuring the death of Halfus. This video is the result. I actually think the music goes surprisingly well with a raiding video. Since Area 11 creates music for anime, it's got the right kind of consistent, high-energy vibe to complement WoW raiding. It's a natural pairing. Good luck to Area 11, and thanks for the fun video.

The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness shout-outs to players who make your WoW sessions memorable. Pox held a roleplay workshop on Shadow Council (US-H) a few weeks ago. The feedback from the event was excellent; people came by and had a great time. The hosts were knowledgeable and helpful. These workshops look like a great opportunity to expand roleplay in the wild. The organizers will be hold another event this weekend, March 5 at 6 p.m. Mountain time. If you're curious about the event, check out what they have to say about it: This time, they're tackling character histories. Creating a backstory that respects WoW's huge history and lore while avoiding some of the common 'traps' and over-done character history pit-falls are just some of the topics the guild will cover. Oh, and there's cake. Lots of cake. For more info, visit www.wearepox.com. The event takes place March 5 at 6 p.m. mountain time at Thunder Bluff's bonfire. Everyone is welcome (alliance are asked to rock the scene in a Horde body).

Guild videos are always fun; they're a wonderful way to show your guild spirit, recruit new folks, and generally celebrate the good times you have in the World of Warcraft. The guild <is a Subatomic Particle> is celebrating their third anniversary with exactly this kind of video. In the quick roundup of excellence, you get to see fun with rockets, ogres racing around Ironforge, and other shenanigans. Check it out, congratulate those folks, and enjoy the good times.

Jesse Cox has a lot of fans. Jesse's a great guy and incredibly talented; we've featured his work more than a few times around here. Jesse has a new series out in which he does a Weekly Review of the week's news. It's a pretty fun summary and is totally worth checking out. In a similar vein, the Glitch Hunters over on YouTube have been putting together a great series featuring the landscape -- and bugs -- of Azeroth. Using methods completely available to every player of WoW, they are constantly exploring even the unintended landscapes. Balista tipped us off to these videos, saying, "Like imagine if Oxhorn was a documentary filmmaker."

It's great news to hear about some of the long-running anniversaries our fellow gamers can reach. It says something about our community that we can span decades of gameplay together. It's more than just good news; it's a success. <The Syndicate> has reached its 15th birthday. They're the Guinness World Record holder for oldest continuous guild; they've published the stories of their success and otherwise keep rolling into the future of MMOs. Our hats are off to <The Syndicate> on their years of good times; we hope you have many more ahead of you.

    02.02.2011

The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness. The patch hasn't take place yet, so we all still get to have the fun of heroic Stonecore. Both of today's Random Acts of Uberness come from the elemental halls of that instance, where it's far too easy to die if you don't know the exact dance steps. Oh, it can be done. It can even be done relatively easily once you are familiar with the place. But it is definitely hard. If you're not familiar with Stonecore in its heroic version, check out this Queue by Alex Ziebart. You'll quickly see why it's such a challenging place and why it's the source of the uberness this week.

If you haven't seen them yet, check out Mr. McCurley's masterful retelling of the 4.0.6 patch notes. The upcoming release of this patch helps remind us all that we're a little more than a month into Cataclysm. How are you doing in the new content? Have you killed any bosses? Is everyone level 85? The important thing to remember here is that everyone moves at their own pace. If your guild isn't downing bosses left and right, don't panic. Most people aren't. If you're a new guild, heavy on melee, lacking experienced raid leaders, have a weird raid composition, or any other of a billion things, don't worry. Focus on enjoying the game and just keep moving forward. Patch notes will keep rolling, you'll keep playing, and we'll all get through it together.

Rehmaar is the guild master for <Knights of Valiant Fury> on Wyrmrest Accord (US-H). The guild is an all-blood elf roleplaying guild, and it's just getting started in the last few weeks. Rehmaar created this video from soup to nuts to help advertise his guild and get the word out about their themes and goals. This is the sort of above-and-beyond approach that means great things about a guild. When you consider the effort that Rehmaar must have put into creating this video, you definitely get the feeling that he's willing to roll up the sleeves and really work to make <Knights of Valiant Fury> successful. Check out the guild's website if you're interested.

Community contests are always exciting. Oxhorn, that mad maven of machinima, is hosting a "Marco Polo" contest. Essentially, once a week, Oxhorn will give a manly shout of "Marco" once a week. The first person to respond with "Polo," using the same social network, will win up to $30 in fabulous prizes. This is also an interesting chance to try out Oxhorn's toolbar. The browser toolbar interacts with Oxhorn's content as well as allowing you one-click access to most social networks. It's an interesting idea, so I'm really curious to see how it turns out.

"Elune," Throgg muttered. "I've never prayed you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad, why we fought, or why we died." "Throgg," Lolegolas interrupted. "Seriously, it's just cookies. They're not going to kill you." "All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Elune ... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to hell with you!" Throgg roared and slammed Cookie's Tenderizer down among the gingerbread men. His massive biceps flexed as he moved the rolling pin back and forth, flattening the poorly shaped treats back into their composite dough. "I suppose we can redo them," Lolegolas sighed. Cookie's Tenderizer (heroic) Type: One-Handed Mace Damage: 802-1,491 (409.6 damage per second) Speed: 2.80 Strength: 129 Stamina: 194 Equip: Increases your hit rating by 86 (0.72% @ L85) Equip: Increases your mastery rating by 86 (0.48 @ L85) How to get it: The Tenderizer drops from Captain Cookie, the penultimate boss in heroic Deadmines. How to get rid of it: The rolling pin sells for 25 gold, 85 silver, and 76 copper. It also disenchants into a Heavenly Shard. %Gallery-96786% Phat Loot Phriday brings you the scoop on some of the most ... interesting ... loot in the World of Warcraft, often viewed through the eyes of the stalwart Throgg and indelible Lolegolas. It's the last week of the year. Not only are we still reeling from the Cataclysm, but last week was pretty big on holiday activity. Now is the time when everyone is picking up speed, recruiting, and getting ready to do amazing things in 2011. Of course, now is also the time to remember the villains of the last expansion. The brilliant folks over at Myndflame have created a new series of videos featuring "Arthas in real life." In this video, Arthas opens his Christmas Presents. Just remember the famous words of Deathwing to the Lich King: "Now that I rule, you're an insignificant tool!"

If you remember Jeff Reitman from his performance at the WoW Insider BlizzCon 2010 reader meetup, then you get another chance to enjoy his comedy with his newly released video, Cataclysm Tour Guide. It's a brief video highlighting the exciting vacation packages made available with the passage of Deathwing over Azeroth's shores. In case you're in the mood for something a little more musical, then EmberIsolte has released a new song. This is an English translation of Lament of the Highborne. EmberIsolte really gets to show off her vocal chops here, although I'll admit I prefer the in-game language for the song.

    12.01.2010

The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness. With the recent upgrade to the Blizzard and WoW community site, it looks like the old Guild Relations forum didn't make the transfer. While the Guild Relations forum didn't get a lot of press, it was a decent place to chat with other guild leaders and find a little help for troubling issues. A few folks have begun archiving the old Guild Relations forums off site at wowguildrelations.com. It's entirely a community effort, and it will be interesting see if it turns out. Drop by the site and see if what they're doing is interesting to you.
