var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gaming_news/Hands_on_with_Guitar_Hero_Aerosmith'; Joystiq managed to wrap their hands around a guitar and try out Guitar Hero: Aerosmith before its official release next month. The verdict: it's a lot like Guitar Hero III with a helluva lot more Aerosmith. There are new venues, some new characters, and other minor changes, but overall it's the same game (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). Head over to Joystiq to read their impressions and sneak a peak at GH: Aerosmith's track list. Gallery: Guitar Hero: Aerosmith (360)

click to enlarge var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gaming_news/Hands_on_with_Guitar_Hero_Aerosmith'; It's Guitar Hero III ... now with lots more Aerosmith! Seriously though, at Activision's hands-on debut event for the stepping stone to Guitar Hero World Tour, we couldn't help but feel a strong overwhelming sense of déjà vu.That's probably because, for all intents and purposes, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is GH3 with polygonal likenesses of the legendary rockers, a story mode that follows their rise to fame, lots of their songs, and a few tracks from other bands to sweeten the deal. %Gallery-24025%

Screen grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today's movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dt com. Everybody knows us bloggers are a bunch of pantsless hooligans, but a lesser known fact is that Guitar Hero: Aerosmith comes with a new pants-free mode, as demonstrated in a lengthly sequence on this week's episode of How I Met Your Mother. Problem is, Jason Segel -- who we most fondly remember as Nick the drummer from Freaks and Geeks -- likely wouldn't be caught dead playing Aerosmith on the guitar, so stop trying to mess with our heads CBS. We know the truth.[Thanks, Jeff]

Nothing screams rock God like a 7-11 Slurpee, so that must be why Activision, Microsoft and 7-11 have partnered to offer up Guitar Hero themed Slurpee cups at 7-11 stores nationwide to help promote the upcoming release of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. And know that the promotion isn't just so fans can collect GH cups, you can also win all kinds of Guitar Hero goodies, games, and Xbox 360 hardware with online entry codes that are available on each Slurpee cup.So, go ahead and drink sweet Slurpee deliciousness until brain freeze takes over, because you have a long way to go to catch up to to Steven Tyler's eighteen Slurpee a day consumption. Though, it really isn't fair, his body's liquid intake device is unusually large.[Via Joystiq]

While Activision's upcoming Aerosmith-centric flavor of Guitar Hero may still have some of us sitting on the fence, a new partnership between the publisher and 7-Eleven ensures that we can at least enjoy and icy cold Slurpee while considering rocking out to the "bad boys of Boston." Activision and the convenience store chain, along with Coca-Cola and Microsoft have teamed to promote Guitar Hero: Aerosmith by offering 22-ounce Slurpee cups branded in the series' artwork, though bizarrely the above art is not of the upcoming version at all. Each the cups will include codes on the underside to enter an online contest to win the game, an Xbox 360, or Microsoft Points. According to an official announcement of the promotion, the parties plan on giving away 744 copies of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and 711,000 Microsoft Points throughout the month of May. In addition, 10 Slurpee drinkers will walk away with a shiny new console and a copy of the game, leaving us pondering the only other question worth asking: Wild Cherry or Classic Cola?

There's a brand new Guitar Hero Aerosmith "Rock Out Trailer" that recently released which aims at pulling you back into the Guitar Hero world. Which it does, because GHAero's look really hasn't changed all that much from GHIII, except for the addition of real-time ribbon physics that have been added for Steven Tyler's microphone stand. And we don't know if it's just us or not, but don't you think the cartoon version of Steven Tyler is a bit on the manorexic side? We can count his ribs ... just saying.

  • Aerosmith exclusive to Guitar Hero, Rock Band DLC denied

Rock Band fanboys who never plan on ever going back to the Guitar Hero days yet fully support Steven Tyler and his band will be shedding a tear today. Shedding a tear because it was just revealed that Aerosmith struck a deal with the Guitar Hero franchise allowing them exclusive use of their music, meaning no Aero love for Harmonix or Rock Band. Which isn't all that surprising seeing that Activision has been treating Aerosmith like royalty lately, with plans of releasing a special Guitar Hero: Aerosmith edition later this June and licensing their likeness, names and music. All said, Rock Band owners can still experience a bit of Aerosmith with the game's "Train Kept A Rollin" track which was licensed prior to the band's agreement with Activision. It'll be the only Aerosmith Rock Band sees for a long, long while.[Via Joystiq]

Those of you patiently waiting for that song from that video with that girl from Clueless in it, or that song from that movie about those working-class guys who blow up an asteroid to wind up in the Rock Band Store may want to sit down for this news: Outside of Rock Band's "Train Kept a Rollin," Aerosmith's entire catalogue of rock and/or roll hits will be exclusive to Guitar Hero. Newsweek got confirmation from an Aerosmith publicist and Activision PR that the band's songs would be locked down for "an unspecified period of time." Is this the beginning of the licensed song wars? Our Magic 8-Ball says, "Probably." %Gallery-19519%

Activision recently sent word about Guitar Hero: Aerosmith's bundle offer and for everyone who was hoping for a brand new wireless guitar peripheral, we have the enjoyably-twisted honor of crushing your fragile guitar dreams. How it's laid out, with any $99 Guitar Hero: Aerosmith bundle purchase you'll receive the game, a special Aerosmith tour book and a wireless Gibson Les Paul guitar controller as was bundled with GHIII. But with a special red Aerosmith faceplate. No new guitar technology, just a new faceplate. We aren't sure if we're supposed to feel cheated or angry at ourselves for expecting something entirely new. Humph to it all.

Though we were briefly distracted by mention of some other bands set to feature in Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Activision has reminded us that the rhythmography will, in fact, include Aerosmith tunes. Gamespot reports that of the 40-plus songs in the game, 60 percent will be devoted to the increasingly decrepit crooners.Ah, but age is just a number and fans aren't likely to care when they start pressing plastic in rhythm to these confirmed numbers: "Make It" "Uncle Salty" "Draw the Line" "No Surprize" "Sweet Emotion" Expect further songs to be revealed at an excruciatingly slow pace as the game's June release walks this way.

Okay, so that title is (possibly) the last time we're going to be snide about Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. The band might not be our cup of tea, but heck, Guitar Hero is fun, and the not-Aerosmith tracks are actually showing real promise for non-Aerosmith fans. However, just in case you forgot who the real headline act is, Activision cooked up a video of the title in action, and it oozes Aerosmith. There's plenty of bragging about the band's (admittedly very impressive) achievements, before we cut to 3D models of Stephen Tyler and his fellow grandfathers bouncing about the stage to "Sweet Emotion." Actually, the rubber-lipped, leathery-skinned Tyler proves to be perfect fodder for a caricature -- visually at least, he and Joe Perry seem to be a good fit for a Guitar Hero game. Gameplay-wise -- and we barely need to mention this, but we shall -- it looks identical. And why not? It's a winning formula.%Gallery-19372%

As everyone knows, Activision's first foray into the band-dedicated Guitar Hero releases kicks off with Guitar Hero: Aerosmith this summer. While we've joked about the title in the past we're excited to see how the final product will hit with fans of the billion-dollar franchise. One interesting note from the video is the text that follows the introduction of legendary rockers. After gazing upon the awesome interestingly animated faces of the band, the trailer introduces the gamer as "and you." This disappointingly points at the inability to play as Joe Perry, Brad Whitford or Tom Hamilton. But we'll wait and see. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is set to rock on the Xbox 360, PS3 and Nintendo Wii this June.

Guitar Hero fans who are no fans of the Aerosmith will be happy to know that this Summer's Guitar Hero: Aerosmith will not be limited to music from the mouth of Steven Tyler. Praise the music gods!Gameinformer received the scoop straight from Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry's mouth, when he mentioned that bands like The Kinks, Cheap Trick, Mott the Hoople and Joan Jett will also be featured in GH:Aero. These new band announcements, on top of Lenny Kravitz, The White Stripes and Deep Purple all of which Perry confirmed previously, make GH:Aero a more rounded and acceptable purchase. That said, we wonder how gamers' negative sentiment surrounding Activision and how they're handling the GH franchise will play out and how well GH:Aero will sell. Thumbs up to the new band announcements though.

For all of you that were hoping a game called Guitar Hero: Aerosmith would contain as littleAerosmith as possible , know that today pushes the title further into your good graces. A slew of new bands were confirmed to be in the game and not a single one of them is called Aerosmith.New tracks confirmed for Guitar Hero: Aerosmith (via Game Informer) include Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes", The Kinks with "All Day and All Night," Joan Jett with "Hate Myself for Loving You" and Cheap Trick with "Dream Police." While not entirely clued in to the kids and their crazy music, our interest in this game is growing through each new non-Aerosmith song. What about you all?[Via Joystiq]

You may not be crazy about the music, but you have to admit the concept of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is kind of cool: A band's story, almost a documentary, retold as a game. Game Informer's got the scoop this month on the steps Neversoft is taking to complete the experience (recreating the high school where they played their first show, mo-capping the band) and we actually found ourselves being interested in the project since the first time we heard of it.Sweetening the pot is the inclusion of artists who've intersected with Aerosmith, which GI says includes Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes", The Kinks with "All Day and All Night," Joan Jett's "Hate Myself for Loving You" and Cheap Trick with "Dream Police." It's all very concerning but it's the inclusion of that awesome Mott the Hoople track that really has us worried. Are we going to have to [gulp] buy this game?

After Activision announced its decision to release Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, we starting wondering -- are Guitar Hero games that showcase one band a good idea? Yes, there may be some other bands sprinkled throughout the game, but there's still going to be a lot of music just from Aerosmith.Keep in mind, this question isn't about Aerosmith, it's about the bigger picture. Even if it was <insert favorite band name here,> would you be excited? Or, do you find the concept to be monotonous, no matter who the band is?

  • Other bands are in Aerosmith's Guitar Hero game, maybe Run DMC

Logic would dictate that if you're buying a game called Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, the disc would be chock full of fail Aerosmith songs. But an ad from a Best Buy circular sent to us by an eagle-eyed reader and a recent USA Today story hint that Steven Tyler and Co. may not be the only ones populating the disc.As you can sort of see, the ad promises Aerosmith and "all their favorite bands." And this article from USA Today says that the game will feature "opening acts." Interestingly, though that online version makes no mention of it, a version of the story on Aerosmith's official fan club site hints that Run DMC might be one of those guests. Any of you Aerosmith fans have guesses as to who else might be on the roster?[Thanks, Ian]

For those of you interested in the upcoming Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, you can ensure your copy will be set aside from Red Octane's official website when the flood of loyal Steven Tyler fans remember to buy it after taking their Alzheimer's medication. No, we joke. We wouldn't want to offend people with Alzheimer's by insinuating they would want to play a dedicated Aerosmith Guitar Hero game, which actually also features artists that inspired and are inspired by the band.Set to hit stores this June, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith brings GH fans closer to a band that is known for their ... vocals. Wait, we still don't get it. OK, Aerosmith is cool enough but their staple band member is the singer not the guitarist. In fact we don't even know who the guitarist is but we assume he's the guy holding the guitar in the header above. Else, that could be a roadie doing some sound tests. Wait, I think Neversoft just trademarked Guitar Hero: Sound Test. Sorry readers, our bad.Note: To clarify, this was written in jest. I know who Joe Perry is guys. ToJo is awesome, we're poking fun.[via THEBBPS]
