  • Be a Death Jr. grim reaper for Halloween

Sure, Death Jr. 2 has impressive graphics, but you know what looks even better? Real life. Yeah. Real life has amazing graphics that run higher than even PLAYSTATION 3's highly touted 1080p. In addition, real life features some stunning physics and lighting systems that just can't be beat (although the AI sucks most of the time). But one of the big disadvantages of real life was that it never let you play as one of the characters from Death Jr. Well, that is... until now. Smiffy's has just released their new line of Death Jr. costumes, just in time for Halloween. You can pick up just a mask, or you can go for the gold and dress up from head to toe as the grim reaper. You can also dress up as Pandora, or as the priciest, but easily the most awesome looking, Smith and Weston. The game comes out appropriately on Halloween.[Via GameDaily]

We <3 downloadable demos at PSP Fanboy. So, whenever there's news about a new demo coming out, we get excited and pay attention. According to the YourPSP French website, a Halloween-themed demo of Loco Roco will be coming out soon. It'll supposedly require a new firmware (2.82) to run.In addition, according to Kingplayer, a demo of Ridge Racer 2 will also be available. Considering the lack of new content put into the sequel, what are the odds that it'll be a level that's in the original? The demos are supposed to come out on October 26th. Will you be upgrading your firmware to play them?

  • How To: make your own iPod Halloween costumes

Is $40 is a little steep for your iPod to be fashionable this Halloween? Yeah, probably. When I grew up moms or grandmas made all the costumes (except for those creepy William Shatner masks). So why not craft yerself a little iPod costume? Let's face it, dressing up an iPod isn't that hard. I used a marker, a tissue, and my iPod dock to create the lovely ensemble you see here.I also discovered the little hats that come with Mr. Potato heads fit my 4G iPods! I don't have a 5G, so YMMV. I've included complete instructions for the ghost outfit, plus a pic of my iPod as R2D2 after the jump. Feel free to share your own creations!

It's that time of year again... the Hallow's End celebration in Azeroth officially begins on October 18th (though we may see signs of it after maintenance ends today). Expect to see cities throughout Azeroth decked out in the finest pumpkin decor and be prepared for trick-or-treating (or just plain tricking, if you'd prefer). The festivities will last until November, however, so you've plenty of time to join in on the fun!

  • Duct tape + cardboard = DI? Half-Life 2 costume

A Planet Half-Life member, who goes only by the online nom de guerre "Kevin," created this incredible Gordon Freeman costume with nothing but duct tape and cardboard (seriously, that's it). In exchange, he has earned the admiration of nerds and Halloween costume partygoers everywhere. Why do cosplayers always have to dress up as Final Fantasy characters, or Mario anyway? Joystiq salutes you, Dr. Freeman. Just don't bring any of those headcrabs to our staff party.[Via Aeropause]

  • Two new contests!

Blizzard has presented US players with two new Halloween-themed contests -- a pumpkin-carving contest and a costume contest. Each contest covers all of Blizzard's games, with prizes awarded for entries with a Starcraft, Warcraft, or Diablo theme. And both contests have been done before -- this marking the 4th year of pumpkin and the 3rd year of the costume contest. The rewards are not astounding (a copy of WoW and the board game for the pumpkin-carving contest, and a copy of WoW with a years' subscription for the costume contest), but the contests sound fun, nevertheless.

  • This year's most popular Halloween costume? Pac-Man

Club Namco wants you to know that the Pac-Man head is this year's most popular Halloween costume, leaving even Mario and Luigi in its wake. We're sure there isn't any bias here, since they make and sell the thing. They must have done extensive research with graphs, pie charts and focus groups to back this claim up. Rush out now or be the most unpopular kid on your block. No word yet on the Ms. Pac-Man head situation.[Thanks, Amy]

  • Japanese hardware sales, Sept. 11-17: Will the bleeding ever stop?

There's not a whole lot I can say to make us feel better this week. Last week, we were able to take solace in the fact the PSP made a nice jump in sales, but it actually dropped this week.- DS Lite: 134,885 21,045 (18.49%)- PS2: 34,189 14,307 (71.96%)- PSP: 26,995 2,146 (7.36%)- GBA SP: 2,330 226 (10.74%)- Game Boy Micro: 1,244 557 (30.93%)- Xbox 360: 928 166 (15.17%)- Gamecube: 630 66 (9.48%)- DS Phat: 478 580 (54.82%)- GBA: 27 14 (107.70%)- Xbox: 7 2 (40.00%)The PSP got obliterated by the DS Lite, which sold more than 100,000 units. If that's not an ass whoopin', I don't know what is.However, I believe Nintendo isn't the happy, happy company many people think they are. I believe something evil and sinister is lurking in the upper echelons of Nintendo, much like in Halloween III. Could it be the DS Lite actually uses subliminal messages to make people fall in love and buy it like crack in the ghetto? Yes, I know it may sound far fetched, but it's the only logical explanation.[Source: Media Create]

  • Killzone to feature Infrastructure multiplayer, but not at launch

Killzone: Liberation is one of the most anticipated games for the PSP. The shooter will feature six-player Ad-Hoc multiplayer modes including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Assault and Capture the Flag. Not bad. But more exciting is the potential for Infrastructure, which will be made as a downloadble upgrade a few weeks after the game's release on Halloween. In addition to multiplayer, two more maps will be released at that time and a new single player chapter, with four new missions. I'm assuming that it'll be good and free as the downloadable content in Wipeout: Pure. Even more exciting is knowing that downloads will be available throughout the year 2007 as well. Sweet! • Final Fantasy XII releasing this Halloween

For those dreaming of the gorgeous gun ballet glimpsed in Final Fantasy XIII, it may come as a rude awakening when we loudly exclaim, "Hang on, we haven't even gotten number 12 yet!"  Thankfully, Square Enix has answered our call by officially announcing the North American release date for their next inevitably epic RPG. Final Fantasy XII will be in stores this Halloween, 31 October 2006. If ever there was a good reason for Sephiroth and Rikku cosplayers to head out into public and purchase the game in full fantasy garb, this is it.Not to be left behind on the platform as the Collector's Edition trend train heads off, the game will be arriving in two distinct versions. The vanilla package will retail for $49.99, whereas the Collector's Edition, laced with interviews, series featurettes, trailers, art galleries and ancient evils, will be available at Gamestop and EB Games exclusively for $59.99. Depending on how fond you are of the non-final franchise, that's either a trick or a treat.[Image: Advent Children.net]
