  • Rumor: Turbine working on console MMO?

Internet scuttlebutt has it that Turbine is cooking up a console MMO codenamed Project Hendrix. A posting at GameSpot cites a Turbine job listing that seeks an engineer for an "unannounced online console project." The article also mentions the resume of one Josh Phelan, a Turbine employee who apparently mentioned the Hendrix title in his online resume (which has since gone dark). Turbine's console aspirations are nothing new, as studio VP Craig Alexander hinted at such desires as early as 2009. Commenter speculation links the job listing to the mysterious Pottermore title, and given Turbine's acquisition by Warner Brothers (which also owns the Pottermore trademark), it's not unreasonable to suspect that the sorting hat could be getting ready to assign a Potter MMO to House Turbine. Check out the details on GameSpot and let us know what you think in the comments.

[Jimi's last Guitar Hero appearance] True, he once exclusively rocked the World Tour, but there just ain't no telling with that Jimi Hendrix. Today, following the reveal of the Jimi Hendrix Experience DLC album Axis: Bold as Love for the Rock Band platform, MTV Games and Harmonix announced, "Jimi Hendrix's music is now exclusive to Rock Band with more songs coming to its industry-leading platform in the future." (An MTV Games spokesperson reiterated to Joystiq that "moving forward" Hendrix music-game releases will be exclusive to Rock Band, but declined to offer specifics on the deal with Experience Hendrix LLC.) Previously, several Hendrix tracks, including a DLC pack, and a digitized version of the, uh, "No. 1 guitarist of all time" were featured in Guitar Hero: World Tour, which, due to licensing restrictions, can't be imported into other Guitar Hero games. Even a Hendrix-themed Guitar Hero game was once allegedly in the works, having apparently slipped into the sea.

The Guitar Hero World Tour Hendrix pack is now on Xbox Live -- so sayeth Major Nelson. As it turns out, the Hendrix pack has nothing to do with an Ultor security technician from Red Faction nor a town in Bryan County, Oklahoma. Bummer. But hey, if you're into this guitar playing guy from the 60s, you might enjoy this track pack. Hendrix Track Pack (440 / $5.50) "If 6 Was 9" "Little Wing" "Fire" (Live from Woodstock) No word on its availability for PlayStation 3 or Wii. We've embedded videos of the songs after the break.

Flush with victory after learning that Guitar Hero had made us better than Metallica, we've already begun the hunt for our next conquest. Ahh, we see a challenger approaching through the mist, is that ... oh, crap, is that Jimi Hendrix? If Slash is to be believed, Activision is busy crafting an all-Hendrix version of the franchise to (presumably) follow up Guitar Hero World Tour. The mono-monikered musician told Rolling Stone, "Well, having the Aerosmith guys do it was very cool 'cause Aerosmith's one of the bands I was heavily influenced by. And Metallica's doing it, that's great. Those are two ones that I think gives it some credibility. And they're doing a Hendrix one, which is great."Assuming that this is one of the few times in life where the phrase, "if Slash is to be believed," is followed by a fact, we'll take this opportunity to remind you that setting plastic guitars on fire is a terrible, terrible idea.

Has frizzy-haired Guns N' Roses guitar legend Slash mistakenly leaked news of a Jimi Hendrix-themed Guitar Hero title? In an interview with Rolling Stone, the axe-shredder ended up discussing Activision's mega-franchise, and appeared to let news of a future release slip. "Well, having the Aerosmith guys do it was very cool 'cause Aerosmith's one of the bands I was heavily influenced by," he enthused. "And Metallica's doing it, that's great. Those are two ones that I think gives it some credibility. And they're doing a Hendrix one, which is great."While aging rock guitarists aren't our usual source for games industry gossip, this is totally believable; after all, it's likely Activision will produce a Guitar Hero: Hendrix sooner or later, given the company's love of money. But somebody at Activision needs to have a quiet word with Slash, because the man is plainly off the chain. First he changes his name to a violent-sounding verb, and now he's giving away Activision's trade secrets like they're candy. Could he be any more rock 'n' roll?[Via 1UP]

As if you needed another reason to be pumped for Guitar Hero: World Tour, the legendary guitar virtuoso himself is going to be featured in Activision's title. Not only will he be a playable character in the game, but master tracks for two of his songs will be featured. These tracks are: "Purple Haze (Live)" (recorded in 1969 at the San Diego Sports Arena) "The Wind Cries Mary" If that isn't enough for you, Activision also said that Hendrix content will be releasing for the game in the future, in the form of DLC, joining the ranks of Metallica. In case you need a refresher on the tracks, we've embedded some YouTube videos for each past the break. Go get your listen on!%Gallery-23491%

Today, Activision and Red Octane are probably strutting around their swank offices with chests held high, because we just got word that they have secured Hendrix for inclusion in Guitar Hero: World Tour.According to cbc.ca, Activision has secured the licensing rights to include two of Jimi Hendrix's songs for World Tour including "The Wind Cries Mary" and a live version of "Purple Haze" that was recorded back in 1969. Though, if those two tracks don't float your boat, Acti promises more Hendrix DLC post release. But, not only will two Hendrix tracks make the World Tour cut, but we also learn that the game will feature an in-game Hendrix avatar featuring his likeness. And so the Guitar Hero versus Rock Band battle continues ...[Via Eurogamer, Thanks Boff]
