  • The Daily Grind: How well do you really know your computer?

Ask the average gamer how well they know their computer while in-game, and you'd get the impression that MMO players are technological geniuses able to assemble a working motherboard out of toothpicks and a photo of Richard Dean Anderson. When we're being put to the test, a lot of us feign knowledge that we don't actually possess, and then later ask our friend who really does know something about computers why the hard drive started acting weird when we put our magnets on the case. But here on Massively, you can be at least moderately anonymous when you admit that most of your computer knowledge comes from sticking the cordy-thing in the socket and hoping it doesn't blow up. Or that you really can assemble a working motherboard from toothpicks and MacGuyver promotional stills. So tell us, in all honesty, how much do you really know about the central tool of your hobby? Are you moderately competent, highly skilled, or unabashedly clueless? Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of our readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's The Daily Grind!

We really thought we'd seen it all when it comes to Xbox 360 case mods and paint jobs, but this new Honest-SkinBox really, and truly, takes the cake. We suppose it's for a good cause -- GQ Taiwan and Microsoft got 10 artist to create custom Xbox 360s, which are being auctioned off on Yahoo Taiwan, with the proceeds going to benefit World Vision -- so we can't really cast too many aspersions. But really, what were they thinking with this one? The SkinBox, from American artist "Honest" is built to look like a living thing, in the middle of digesting that "snack" you can see glued to the side of the 360. It's hard to call the unit much of a resumé builder, but it sure got our attention. Thanks, Honest, but we think we'll be sticking with our plain ol' non-nausea-inducing boringbox.[Via Xbox 360 Fanboy]

GQ Taiwan and Microsoft are teaming up for a very interesting project. Ten artists from around the world have created 10 custom Xbox 360s. These 360s will be on display until Sunday, October 21st in Taiwan. After the exhibition, they will be auctioned off for charity on Yahoo Taiwan. We're not sure if residents of other countries can bid, though. More info can be found on Freshness. The design pictured at right was created by American artist, Honest -- that's his name, "Honest." While we're not ready to call it our favorite, it's certainly the most interesting. Called "SkinBox," it actually has some kind of skin applied to the surface with lots of weird protrusions. In all honesty, it's kind of gross, but it's definitely one of a kind. Follow the read link for pictures of the other designs. Which one is your favorite?[Via HypeBeast. Thanks, Ideal.]
