A viral Firefox commercial poking fun at its browser competition features the anthropomorphized icons of Internet Explorer, Netscape and Apple's own Safari acting, well - somewhat silly. No matter which browser you're a fan of, it's a pretty funny spot and one of the better offerings I've seen from the Firefox Flicks campaign.[via Netscape]

A forum member of Ars Technica has managed to get a working, albeit buggy, version of Internet Explorer 6 to run under OS X via WINE. Using a script designed to easily install IE 6 on a Linux machine alongside a version of WINE designed for OS X he managed to get the ubiquitous web browser to run. We don't need to tell you how happy web developers will be to find that they can test their sites on the Mac without booting into Windows, or even owning a copy of Windows for that matter.

  • Google outbids Microsoft for Dell bundling deal, sez WSJ

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Google has succeeded in outbidding Microsoft for the right to integrate its search tools into the millions of personal computers that Dell will sell over the next three years. After Yahoo dropped out of what may have been a billion-dollar auction, sources say that along with its desire to increase the exposure of its services, it was Google's frustration over the perceived difficulty in changing the default settings in Internet Explorer to non-MSN search options that ultimately motivated the company to emerge victorious. Besides winning a coveted spot on IE's default homepage, the deal also nets Google some valuable desktop real estate, as its Desktop software -- privacy concerns and all -- will now come pre-installed on Dell machines. For most consumers, this deal really doesn't mean too much, except for those of you who are really into MSN search, in which case you'll have to take a few seconds and adjust your browser settings.

  • Safari need not apply to Yahoo's preview

Downloadsquad reports that Yahoo! is previewing their new look. Click here to check it out, as long as you are using Firefox 1.5. At the moment Yahoo! isn't supporting any browsers other than IE 6 and Firefox 1.5 (not even Camino, which is just a Macish Firefox).I know it is just a preview, but it still irks me. Feel free to mock me in the comments.

Well, imagine that!  You end-of-life a program on the Mac and BOOM, Apple stops including it with the release of their newest OS.  According to readers of Accelerate Your Macintosh, who received their copies of Tiger early, there is no Internet Explorer included in the installation. My take:  thank you, Apple! I don't have much use for a browser that U.S.-CERT considers a risk. There's also unconfirmed rumblings that both Stuffit Expander and Acrobat Reader are missing from Tiger as well.  Can anybody confirm?ps—I've included a subtle subliminal message in this post. Can you spot it?!
