Selecting today's winner was especially tough but, after barricading ourselves inside for hours to make the decision, we've chosen Christian's nightmarish vision of this coming November 17th for day three in our four day Dead Rising giveaway contest! When that fated day rolls around, we'll all wistfully recall these silly contests and our silly, little lives. This is your last chance! You have until midnight tonight EDT to send your entries in .jpg format to joyswag [dot] submissions [at] gmail [dot] com. We'll comb through them (with gloves on, of course) and lift our favorite submission out of the feeding frenzy to admire it, before sharing it with all of you. Read on for some more rules and a sampling of some of yesterday's honorable mentions.

A reminder that the second day in our four day Dead Rising giveaway contest is coming to a close (since we're late, we'll give you an extra couple hours to get today's entries in). We've already chosen yesterday's winner -- AJ Bothe's Simpsons meets Dead Rising mashup had us imagining a zombie outbreak in the Springfield Mall, with zombies pouring out of The Leftorium. Nice work, AJ. We've included some other honorable mentions after the break.Send your entries in .jpg format to joyswag [dot] submissions [at] gmail [dot] com. We'll select one submission each day, over the next three days, that either makes us laugh the most, or infects us with enough T-Virus to tur ... B R A I N S. You better get started, today's entries must be received by 5:59am EST. If you win, we'll pack your precious game in a box, put that box in another box, write a magical incantation on its surface and then it'll somehow get to you. Be warned, this can be a very lengthy process, so please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery.

At last year's Tokyo Games Show we got our first look at an early version of Gears of War for the Xbox 360 and walked away with two things: (1) desire to play the finished product; (2) a limited-edition, 46-page, glossy coffee-table book entitled Destroyed Beauty: An Inside Look at Gears of War (click here for scans of the entire book). We're giving the book away to a reader who posts the niftiest photo of foodstuffs crafted to look like something from the world of video games to Flickr under the tag of joystiqfood. Only correctly tagged images uploaded to Flickr count as contest entries. (Note that Flickr's community guidelines require you to upload only photos that you've taken.) Deadline for entries: 11:59 PM EDT September 30. [Update 1: made it amply clear that only entries that have been uploaded to Flickr and correctly tagged are eligible for the contest.] [Update 2: This is the winning entry. The winner has been contacted via email and the prize will be shipped as soon as we've got his address.]

We've been feeling charitable lately. As promised, we've got four more copies of Capcom's zompocalyptic Dead Rising we're just dying to give away. How are we going to do it? We'll run one of our favorite contests! Inspired by Something Awful's rant on Otis, Dead Rising's "helpful" security guard, we've created this caterpillar of an overlay that you can edit (using your Photoshop chops) to make into your own beautiful Dead Rising-inspired butterfly. It's a blank canvas, so feel free to add not only zombies to your mise en scène.Send the butterflies in .jpeg format to joyswag [dot] submissions [at] gmail [dot] com. We'll select one submission each day, over the next four days, that either makes us laugh the most, or infects us with enough T-Virus to tur ... B R A I N S. You better get started, all entries must be received by the witching hour -- our lawyers inform us that we should make that a little more specific, so you've got until 11:59 EST -- each night, from now until Monday night. If you win, we'll pack your precious game in a box, put that box in another box, write a magical incantation on its surface and then it'll somehow get to you. Be warned, this can be a very lengthy process, so please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery.Big ups to Capcom for the prizes!

  • Joyswag: A Castle Crashers tee for your thoughts ... the revenge! [update 1]

On Sunday we asked you to leave a comment with your feedback on Castle Crashers for a chance to win an adorable Castle Crashers tee. 210 of you did and, after running the numbers at random.org, our first result was #76. The seventy-sixth comment was posted by one Mr. Franky Digital, who wrote, "This could very well resurrect the side-scrolling beat-'em-up genre for a new generation. Every generation should have a Turtles in Time."That got us thinking. We have another Castle Crashers tee to hand out (size XL), but who to give it to? All you have to do is leave a comment telling us what your favorite side-scrolling beat-'em-up is/was and why. Hate side-scrolling beat-'em-ups? We'd like to know that also (but you better have a good reason why). We'll select one at random and award them the final tee. Good luck![Upate: A quick roll of the random.org die and we've got comment 96, in which Kiey chose Konami's classic Genesis beat 'em up Sunset Riders. Congrats Kiey, you won the tee!]

After trawling through a considerable number of entries for our latest Joyswag contest and being subjected to images both hilarious and infinitely disturbing, we've finally picked four winners. There were plenty of superb entries, though it was certainly alarming to note how quickly we became numb to decapitated Sony executives, Indiana Jones crossovers and, lest we forget, gigantic male genitalia.

Free games. You want them. There's no point in deluging you with our usual witty banter, remarkable observations or faultless modesty this time. Know only that this is an easy competition and that your prize is one of the following games: Sudoku Gridmaster (DS) Magnetica (DS) Tales of Phantasia (GBA) Drilldozer (GBA) Four of you will become winners by following our simple instructions and dazzling us with humor and visual mockery: Take the above image (click on it for a slightly larger version), shove it through some sort of picture alteration software and create something astonishing. Send the legends to a dimension made of nothing but congealed cheese, replace arms with spaghetti or have them recite Monty Python quotes -- let inspiration and the desire to triumph over the other pathetic entries guide you.Send the images in .jpeg format to joyswag [dot] submissions [at] gmail [dot] com. If you manage to send us into a state of hysterical laughter or stunned awe, we'll randomly select one of the four games and send it to you via an obsolete, physical delivery system. Oh, and you have until today, 11:59PM EST. Go![Original image here.]
