Ken Block's Gymkhana antics are well documented, but when Dirt 3 launches next year, it'll be new to franchise vets. Thus, Block and Codemasters have provided a primer video where the pro driver not only gives some background on Gymkhana's rise to prominence but, more importantly, its inclusion in Dirt 3.

  • Dirt 3 to feature insane 'Gymkhana' events, WRC driver Ken Block consulting

When Codemasters releases Dirt 3 next year, it'll arrive with a new type of event to participate in: Gymkhana. Gymkhana is a solo event in which drivers have a starting line and finish line, with a whole lot of obstacles to navigate and complex maneuvers to memorize in-between. By "complex maneuvers," we're taking backwards driving, drifting though figure eights and, in the case of the video after the break, doing doughnuts around someone riding a Segway. Yeah. In fact, the star of the video, WRC driving ace Ken Block, is working with Codemasters as a consultant on Dirt 3, as he did previously for Dirt 2. After watching the frankly incredible video of him in action at L'Autodrome in France, we couldn't imagine anyone being better suited to advise the developer on how to recreate this stuff in-game. Just in case Codemasters is reading this, here's what we're thinking for the Dirt 3 pre-order / collector's edition bonus: a ride with Block on a real Gymkhana run. Make it happen!

  • DiRT 2 PC demo hits the track

The PC version of Codies racer DiRT 2 may be a bit behind the console pack, but it's crossing the finishing line in style. The extra time has allowed the team to throw a couple of more DirectXs in there (they've got it up to 11 now!) and fine-tune all of the game's tessellation. And if you're still on the sidelines, wondering whether the game is for you (or, more importantly, if your puny rig can handle all of this Xtreme tessellation action), then why not try the game out right now? Codemasters was kind enough to hook up our sister site Big Download with a PC demo, so feel free to get a little dirty. Just, uh, change your clothes first. Your mom would kill us if you ruined that new Nickelback T-shirt.

Codemasters released a new trailer for DiRT 2, which highlights the sequel's 40+ real-life drivers such as Travis Pastrana and new franchise lead Ken Block, as well as the game's 100+ events spanning across nine different countries. Then, there's the titular unclean racing action to behold, which looks like it retains a lot of what fans appreciated about the first game.DiRT 2 is scheduled for release this September and we'll be sure to get our hands on it during E3 this week.

Taking up duties as the face of the DiRT franchise, popular rally driver Ken Block tells us why he wanted to be involved in Codemasters' racer in the video above. Taking inspiration from the late (and sorely missed) Colin McRae, the new kid on the block regales his story of getting involved in the sport of rally racing and how he hopes to fill the gigantic shoes left behind. The video isn't all sitting around and talking, however, as it also shows Ken's influence in the sequel, with some brief snippets of gameplay. Expect plenty of big air opportunities in DiRT 2, as is Ken's style.DiRT 2 is drifting toward a Fall release on the PS3, PSP, Xbox 360, Wii, ColecoVision, DS, Virtual Boy, and PC.%Gallery-45501%
