Jimmy Kimmel films show with MacBook, next stop Chatroulette
Ever hear of a television studio losing power for the cameras only, but still having enough juice to run the lights, audio, and seemingly everything else in the studio? Neither have we, which is why we're a bit skeptical that what happened on Jimmy Kimmel earlier this week wasn't some sort of publicity stunt -- but it's an interesting one nevertheless. The supposed mystery power outage for the control room left Kimmel with nothing to do but cancel the show or flip open his trusty MacBook, and it's the latter he chose to do, recording the entire episode in what looks to be VGA. (It aired last night, but there's a clip at the source link if you missed it.) Quick-thinking by a former Man Show host, or contrived PR grab? Either way, it's mission accomplished.
Felicia Day on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon
Our favorite DIY web series star Felicia Day showed up on network television last night, and you can watch the result after the break below. She appeared on Jimmy Fallon's late night show to promote the release of The Guild's new retail DVD, in stores right now. I watched it in HDTV on my regular television, and it was a pretty surreal experience: this is the Internet gaming culture moving mainstream as we watch it. Sure, it's just Fallon (and he's made a commitment to gaming and its culture already), but to have people talking this frankly and honestly about the gaming experience on network television is a nice step forward.The two chat about their first meeting, where Felicia helped Fallon roll up a draenei, as well as Dr. Horrible and how all of The Guild DVDs are made. And at the end of the interview, Fallon even hooks her up with some tickets to a NY show. Looks like it was a lot of fun, and it's great to see someone who's worked so hard on something they love get a nice bit of recognition for it.Update: Sorry, forgot that Hulu only works in the US. Craig Ferguson's The Late Late Show switches to high definition at the end of August
We ask, and we receive. A few months after Craig Ferguson topped our poll asking who is still watching standard definition television comes word that The Late Late Show is going high definition. CBS plans to flip the HDTV switch August 31, complete with an updated show opener and theme song. There's nothing better that we can think of than seeing that beautiful, beautiful face in HD...wait, we may need to reconsider this.
