Turbine has put together an immensely deep look into the Legendary Item system coming in the Mines of Moria expansion. If you ever had any questions about, well about nearly anything regarding how the whole thing works, you should find your answers now. Our impressions are that it's certainly a cool and interesting attempt at enabling players to craft the weapon of their choice over a period of time, similarly to how you would an actual character. That being said, our only beef with the system is that it doesn't seem to support any kind of visual customization options. Everyone loves to personalize their stuff, so it seems likes a no-brainer. Hopefully, in time, we may see something of this nature. For now though, we're happy that Turbine is going the distance to try something new and possibly very evolutionary within the genre. The developer diary states that they'll be making any required adjustments in the future, too. So this is something of a work in progress in that sense.

Mines of Moria, the first expansion for Lord of the Rings Online, has been given a release date of November 18th for both the NA and EU today. That means we're only about a month away from ten new levels, two new classes, legendary weapons, angry Balrogs and the under-mountain Dwarf kingdom of Khazad-dum. Those who decide to pre-order Mines of Moria will have access to an offer of $199.99 for a lifetime subscription. Considering that Turbine has said there's going to be plenty of expansions, including another one next year, this is an incredibly valuable investment for anyone enamored with the virutal Middle-earth.Also being offered are in-game bonus items, although the list differs slightly depending on your choice between retail or digital stores. Make sure to make a wise purchase decision by checking our our exclusive developer tour of the new expansion. We've also got a fantastic video that delves ... just maybe a little too deep. Find the lists of preorder items and their differences after the cut.%Gallery-33074%

  • LotRO's Legendary Weapon system explained

In a recent interview with Ten Ton Hammer, Lord of the Rings Online developers Aaron Campbell and Brent Schmidt answered some questions about the new content patch releasing this Tuesday. They explain a bit more about what to expect with Book 14, and ultimately with Mines of Moria, calling it "the largest single continuous underground space ever created in an online game."However, a good chunk of this interview centers around the new Legendary Weapons that we'll see with Mines of Moria. These weapons will be something like a living part of your character, almost like a companion. These items will gain experience points with you and can be upgraded by your character. Be sure to read the complete interview for more details on what will most certainly be an exciting addition to the game.

  • Legendary Weapons: Drops vs. questing

A Discussion of the newly dropped Thori'dal bought up a lively discussion on Legendary weapons in my guild chat the other day, which has in turn set my own mental wheels turning. Looking at the difference between the pre-Burning Crusade Legendaries and the Burning Crusade Legendaries, there's one big difference that stands out (beyond the level difference): The pre-BC Legendaries were quested, while the BC Legendaries have been drops. The clear-cut off seems to suggest that at some point, Blizzard decided that creating long, involved quests in order to obtain Legendary weapons just wasn't the way to go, and they'd rather let the RNG take care of distributing Legendaries. But the question is, did they make the right choice? There's good arguments for both sides.

  • Legendary Weapons planned for future Final Fantasy XI update

A new addition to Final Fantasy XI is coming this summer, and it's set to be a pretty big deal for players of Square's MMO. The Legendary Weapons of Balrahn will be an entirely new set of powerful items, each geared specifically to one of the game's many jobs. We first heard about these weapons from Fusionx, who theorizes that they'll be included in the version update this June. He's hopeful that these high end weapons will be easier to obtain that the current relics which, as he puts it, "require 120 million gil or more to completely upgrade."The handsome axe above is name simply Conqueror and is intended for the Warrior job; each of the class weapons is highlighted in an article on the official FFXI site. Several classes (Dancer, Thief, Bard) are getting daggers. The Dark Knight is getting a huge scythe, the White Mage an impressive looking club, the Black Mage an impressive staff, and the Beastmaster a fantastic looking hand axe called the Aymur. Each of these implements is supposed to come with an all new weapon skill - a big changeup for the game, and some great high end content to sate the longtime players of this venerable title. Thanks, Fusionx!

  • Legendary bow Thori'dal, the Star's Fury "nerfed" on live servers

World of Raids has discovered something that might give Hunters a momentary attack of Angina: Thori'dal, the Stars' Fury has been found in the current game files, and while it still looks pretty tasty, it's also look weaker than the last known stats from the Pre-PTR leak. Namely, it's lost about 10 base DPS, having dropped from 148.7 DPS to 138.8 DPS. Now, it's hard to call this a "nerf," perse, since the bow hasn't actually appeared on any live or test server yet as an actual item. It's possible that the pre-PTR leak was a hoax (not likely though, since it got the other stats spot on), or that Blizzard's internal testing made them think they needed to tone back the damage a bit. It's a bit of a blow to think what might have been with the old damage anyway, of course. That said, Kil'jaedan isn't even killable yet on live realms, so the stats could change again before it drops. Even if they don't, it's still an awesome bow that will make the Black Bow of the Betrayer look like a peashooter for damage, and comes with the added bonus of a free bag slot, so I'm sure there will be plenty of Hunters aiming for it, and good luck to them. My Hunter is still going to be holding out for a Legendary Gun out of Thor Modan.
