SoE is really keeping Legends of Norrath players busy, with all of the special events as of late, and today we've learned of yet another. LoN is getting involved in the Frostfell fun with the "Saving Santug" promotion. Players are tasked with defeating the mean Grinnuch to free Santug Claugg. Although anyone would surely save poor old Santug out of the goodness of their heart, you'll be rewarded for your efforts with Santug's own promotional card.As well as the Grinnuch event, any participant in a Holiday Bonus Tournament will get a Santug's Stocking pack that includes items randomly selected from a list (full list after the break), and not all of these items are in-game -- you can score yourself a Legends of Norrath poster, or one of five framed and signed sets of the Jim Lee Oathbound cards. The winner of the each Holiday Bonus Tournament will get a foil version of one of three Santug Claugg promotion cards, one of which is a Lump of Coal with no stats -- nice.On top of all this, log in on the 25th of December for an extra special stocking stuffer surprise. The Saving Santug promotion will bring Frostfell cheer to LoN players from December 21st through January 2nd.

The first in a series of qualifers for the 2008 Legends of Norrath Championship will take place this weekend. On Saturday the 15th of December, from 10:00AM PST, players of LoN can participate in tournaments to win a spot in the Championship that will take place at Gen Con Indy. But there's a lot more at stake than just the Championship entry -- the total prize pool is worth around USD$5000 and is spread among the top 16 players from the weekend's contests. Aside from the Championship spot, first place will get $500, paid air travel to Gen Con Indy, a 4-day Gen Con Indy badge, and -- brace yourself for this one -- their likeness on a new LoN card! The rest of the players ranked up to 16th will get a share in the remaining cash, with second place taking a sizeable $750. Unlike some of the recent LoN tournaments, this one will not have an entry fee, so if you fancy your chances then keep this weekend open. The full event details, and a list of the prizes, are posted after the break.

Last month we reported on a new expansion for Legends of Norrath by the name of Forsworn. We now know that Forsworn will be released on the 19th of December, and leading up to this date, the EQ2players site is showing off the loot cards that the expansion will bring for both EverQuest and EverQuest II.The feature shows off every loot card, including this sexy pale rhino mount, that will be introduced, 44 in total split evenly between EQ1 and EQ2. As a reminder of some other major features being brought to LoN in Forsworn, there will be 2 on 2 multiplayer, raids involving a group of players bringing their decks and taking on an NPC boss together, and some new single player scenarios. If you want to brush up your skills prior to the expansion, or beef up your card library, there is a tournament going that offers some special cards and booster pack prizes -- but it's only for this weekend, so hurry along if you want to be involved.

EQ2Players informs us of yet another Legends of Norrath tournament this weekend. The theme this time around is Firiona Vie, and every participant in the weekend's tournaments will receive the Firiona Vie, Guardian of Growth card. Everyone will also get a choice between two different loot cards, one for EverQuest and the other EverQuest II, and each of those result in a shapeshift illusion item that buffs the player with a damage shield. The tournament begins at 7:00AM PST on Saturday and concludes at 9:00PM PST on Sunday. The overall winner will get 9 Oathbound booster packs, and the other top-ranking entrants will get between 8 and 4, but everyone who enters will receive 3 packs. So in the end, everyone will get at the minimum 3 booster packs, the Firiona Vie card, and their choice of one of two loot cards -- just for participating. Not too shabby. The fee for entering this contest is 10 event passes.

Die hard fans of Legends of Norrath -- EQ2's in-game trading card game -- get your decks ready. From the EQ2 Players site, there will be a Thanksgiving Tournament Marathon Weekend running from 5pm PST November 21st, until 12am PST November 26th. Any tournaments you enter during this period will net you points, even if you lose (3 points for a win and 1 for a loss), and the top two scorers at the conclusion of the marathon will be able to choose any loot card -- a card which will grant an in-game Everquest II item -- as their prize. Keep in mind that this is points-based, and while winning more will get you more points, it doesn't mean you'll need to maintain a 100% record to take out the final prize. While this sounds skewed for the hardcore, there are prizes and incentives simply for participating as well. As long as you enter one tournament during the marathon's duration, you will receive an Oathbreaker booster pack of cards, and every tournament will have better prizes than usual up for grabs. So even if you know you won't be sitting in the top position, it is worthwhile if you enjoy the game to get your free booster pack and be in the running for some beefed up tournament rewards. There have been quite a few feature tournaments and promotions from the LoN team as of late, and it certainly seems like a good time to be involved.

The Legends of Norrath trading card game was only released a few months ago, but already Sony Online Entertainment is planning for the future. This past week they announced the first expansion to the title, Forsworn. Combined with Oathbound, the current card set, Forsworn will open up a series of new options for the player. Set highlights include: 2 on 2 multiplayer - small scale team combat to change up the game types. New Avatar Races - The high elves and the Iksar will join the game, opening up new Light and Shadow options. Raids - Groups of players, each with their own deck, can team up to take on AI opponents of great power. Players who complete enough of the single-player content can actually run these raid decks against their fellow players. New Loot Cards - Up to twenty new cards representing in-game items will be released with this set. New single-player scenarios, pitting your avatar against the forces that oppose the Seventh Hammer and the Tribunal. The single-player elements will introduce new game concepts, like the Overwhelm, Sentinel, and Reinforce key words. There's no word yet on when the set will be released, and more features are promised in the future.

If you're a fan of Sony Online Entertainment's Legends of Norrath card game, you're set to have a good time this week. This coming Friday to Sunday is a promo weekend for the collectible card game, with increased drop rates of booster and combo packs. In order to snag them you're going to have to play EverQuest or EverQuest 2, the two games directly connected to Legends of Norrath's lore and gameplay. The card game's booster packs drop normally in those two titles, but this weekend SOE has decided to up the ante and ensure that you'll probably get a reward or two from your time in-game.Players will also have the opportunity to snag two brand (non-foil) new cards in the booster packs, both of which (for the moment) are only available via this promo weekend.

  • Legends of Norrath's upcoming Loot Tournament Weekend

Prepare for cardboard card battle, well digital cardboard that is. The Legends of Norrath Loot Tournament Weekend is scheduled to start at 9 am on October 27th and last the whole weekend. This is a large scale tournament where players can win in-game loot rewards. There will be an entry fee of 10 event passes and each player that participates will receive three Oathbound booster packs, a Lucan D'Lere, Ruthless Tactician promotional card (illustrated by Jim Lee) and a choice of either an EverQuest Scale of Rodcet Nife or EverQuest II Bottled Breath loot card. In order to ninja your free loots just scoot into one of the "Loot Tournament Weekend" event queues and once they fill up the foray will begin and your account is flagged to be banned at a later time. I'm kidding about the banning part, your account is flagged for the goods! You do not have to be an EverQuest or EverQuest II subscriber to play Legends of Norrath. If you can't get enough tournament details check out the Legends of Norrath website. I'm seriously considering entering the Tournament depending on how much the entry fee is. I just downloaded the stand-alone client and it doesn't look bad -- so far, so good, stability wise. I need to get a few games under my belt before I can further comment on the game itself. If it's anything like Magic: The Gathering, I'll probably get hooked and you'll never hear from me again; hey, don't cheer that!

  • Everquest I and II adds card game Legends of Norrath

How do you renew flagging interest in an MMORPG, especially when there's clearly another top dog? For MMORPG granddaddy Everquest, part of the solution (they hope) comes in the form of a new, digital collectable card game called Legends of Norrath: Oathbound. The first of what Sony says will be a series, Oathbound features 375 cards in 55-card starter decks for $9.99 and 15-card booster packs for $2.99. The game is playable from EQ I or II, thought a stand-alone client is due for free on Sept. 12. You can test your skills (and decks) against others in the Tournament and Casual lobbies that have been set up or you can play against the AI. This isn't necessarily the sort of thing that would make us cheat on WoW, but if you're still a Norrath denizen, it sounds like this would certainly beat /gems.
