Back in May, Overwatch added its first paid skin for the much-loved (and sometimes loathed) healer Mercy. At $15, it was nothing to sniff at, but all proceeds went to a good cause, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).

After weeks of testing, Blizzard has moved several Overwatch changes from their test servers to the wider gaming population. This new patch brings 4K team shooter action to players on Xbox One X, but the big changes affect two popular characters: Mercy and Junkrat. Both have seen their capabilities downgraded, with the healer Mercy seeing the biggest adjustment in what is just the latest change targeting her Ultimate ability, Resurrect.

  • The Daily Grind: When have you been Good Samaritaned?

This past weekend I decided to explore an MMO I'd previously barely scratched -- EverQuest II -- and found, to my delight, that it's quite an involving and enjoyable game. Yet being a newbie in a land of veterans can be an intimidating experience, and I found myself stumbling over questions, restrictions, and ignorance as I made my way through the beginning zone of Darklight Woods. I was bowled over, then, when a high-level character did an MMO version of a drive-by shooting. Only instead of bullets, he fired a couple large backpacks my way without any demands or even really expecting gratitude. He simply saw a lowbie who could use a helping hand, and became the Good Samaritan for me that day. So when have you, for lack of a better term, been "Good Samaritaned" by a player who went out of their way to help you even though you were a stranger to them? Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of their readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's Daily Grind!

To many players of Fallen Earth, the expression "when hell freezes over" has been supplanted by "when Sector 4 is released." At launch, the sector was supposedly largely completed, and it was expected to be released shortly thereafter. After a year had passed and we were still waiting to see it, many players started to believe that it didn't even exist. Well, I am here to tell you that not only does it exist, but I spent a few hours roaming around on the other side of the big wall. Aside from some nice pictures, I got a little bit of insight on what we might expect to see in Alpha County, which will be the first installment in the fourth sector. It's been quite some time since Fallen Earth's opening day, and we have been waiting quite some time for the new sector. But the team at Fallen Earth, LLC has given us a few things to tide us over: Deadfall and Terminal Woods, which combined have as much content as a full sector. So it's not like we've been stuck in Sector 3 for over a year and a half; the devs have given us some new stuff and made some fundamental changes to the game (some good and some bad, but mostly good). The first bit of S4 we will see was released on the public test server (PTS) earlier this week, so I took the opportunity to do some exploring for you (actually my motivations were entirely selfish). After the cut, I'll tell you a little bit about what I saw (slight spoiler alert!).

If there's one thing that MMOs have burned into our brains, melted into our psyches and stamped all over our reflexes, it's that if something moves in game, we should kill it. Sometimes we get a little yellow caution light telling us not to kill it yet, because we're not high enough level or that player isn't in a PvP zone, but it's only a matter of time before the light flickers to green and the slaughter commences. So we kill and we kill and we kill some more, because that's how we roll. But are there times when you deliberately choose not to kill something? Maybe it's a cute mob that you can't bear to see dead and twitching on the ground. Maybe it's a former ally who has earned mercy, or a noble race who deserve a reprieve. Perhaps you find that deep within your heart, sometimes you'd rather hug than slug -- and you run by that flagged lowbie enemy player with a smile. Are there times that you refuse to kill a mob or a player on principle rather than practicality?

Seriously, I did the same exact thing at E3. What? Don't make that face, you can't give these Yakuza scum any mercy! For the sake of clarity, every time the player blocks, this is from shaking the nunchuk.[Via Codename Revolution]
