So now we have not one, not two, but three posts discussing the imminent Modern Warfare 2 trailer. This time, Activision has announced that the first full gameplay trailer for Infinity Ward's follow-up to Call of Duty 4 will premiere this Sunday (May 24) during the NBA Eastern Conference Finals on TNT. Tip-off is set for 5:30ET, though the press release neglects to say just when the trailer will be shown during the event.Viewers are directed to visit modernwarfare2.com directly after the trailer's premiere for more info. We're assuming that's when the new site will officially launch and, according to the teaser trailer (for the actual trailer) that was shown on GTTV last night, the full trailer should be available at modernwarfare2.com at that time as well. After that, it will presumably be available everywhere (including right here on Joystiq) because ... you know ... it's Activision.

As promised, GameTrailers premiered a new gameplay trailer for Modern Warfare 2, featuring firefights in front of a giant jet engine, a S.W.A.T. team deploying, and a guy in a parka (hooded guys are the new bald space marines!), along with a car explosion that would make the A-Team proud. As exciting as this footage was, the ending reveals that it's just a taste of an "uncut and extended trailer" that will premiere on the game's website on May 24th. Which means that this trailer is an advertisement for a longer advertisement. We don't mind the tactic as long as the result is more gameplay footage in front of our faces.[Thanks, TheDarkWayne]

As per this month's Modern Warfare 2 cover story in Game Informer, details of the piece have surfaced over at GiantBomb. A smattering of new revelations are covered, including the flat-out refusal of co-op play in story mode (said to break the narrative experience). Additionally, Captain "Soap" MacTavish returns, bringing with him distinctly more open-ended gameplay, and a significantly fleshed out "special forces" mode (one that will mimic and expand upon the final "Mile High Club" airplane battle in CoD4). If you want more, you're just going to have to snag a copy of this month's GI. We'll be honest with you, though -- at this point, we expect greatness from the veteran development team at Infinity Ward. Luckily, from the looks of things, the game's release on November 10 will bring ever-widening smiles to the faces of existing fans and reignite our already burnin' love for the series.[Thanks, Sage]

Just one day from the release of Battlestations: Pacific, the game's publisher Eidos has released the sea battle-infused launch trailer. We're not sure how much of the trailer is actual gameplay versus the game playing out, but rest assured you can find out for yourself by checking out the demo on Xbox Live and PC. You'll forgive us if we don't express heady excitement for the game as, like Treyarch's Noah Heller, we're just kinda done with World War II titles. That being said, for those of you looking to retell history on the Eastern stage, Battlestations: Pacific may very well be right for you. We'll be over here thinking about Modern Warfare 2 and sneaking around New Mombassa in the future. Can you really blame us?%Gallery-17214%

TNT has been teasing the "world premiere" of Modern Warfare 2 on May 24th during the Eastern Conference. It looks like the footage might be culled solely from cutscenes, but the clip seems to be promising us some snowmobile vehicle action, underwater levels, and a shellfire sequence that hearkens back to the AC-130 gunship level in the first game. Check out the video above, and if you're interested in Modern Warfare 2, or the NBA, then tune in during the Eastern Conference finals in two weeks. That Siberian setting is looking particularly cool at the start of the summer.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in! Now, back to your regular TNT viewing.]

  • Activision hopes Modern Warfare 2 is 'biggest selling video game of all time'

Newsflash: Developers and publishers want you to buy their games. Doubly so if they plan to release their wares during the year-end holidays, as is the case with Modern Warfare 2. In fact, Activision brand manager Simon Wells told MCV that the company hopes Modern Warfare 2 will be the "biggest selling video game of all time," beating out the high sales figures of Call of Duty 4 and Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War.We're not going to say that people aren't excited about Infinity Ward's sequel (our tips inbox proves it), but we're going to need more than a teaser trailer if we're to board the hype train. Although ... the inclusion of teddy bears does help.

If you've been straining your eyes and ears over the recently released "soundwave trailer" for Modern Warfare 2, you may want to give your weary senses a rest, and turn your attention to one of two comprehensive breakdowns of the trailer that recently appeared in our inbox. The first is a video analysis from YouTuber d4v1dm0rt, which is embedded after the break. The second, a compilation of zoomed in screengrabs from the trailer (broken down by Binge Gamer's Mike Murakami), can be viewed here. They probably spotted a few items you might have missed out on -- such as the brief image depicting five perk icons, four of which appear to be entirely new. Maybe you didn't catch the flash frame of O Cristo Redentor, which could be hinting at Rio de Janeiro as a possible in-game locale. Perhaps your keen gaze overlooked the momentarily visible teddy bear, which could symbolize ... cuddlier enemies? Yeah, we're still not too sure about that one.[Thanks, David and Mika!]

  • Activision: Modern Warfare has taken on a 'life of its own'

Aside from, uh, gameplay footage, the one thing that was deemed conspicuously absent from Modern Warfare 2's explosive teaser trailer was the Call of Duty branding. Whether developer Infinity Ward is still debating the nested sequel's final title or simply hopes to distinguish its next FPS from the other 37 Call of Duty games on shelves is up for speculation, but it's hard to argue the independent prestige that lies behind Call of Duty 4's "Modern Warfare." An Activision spokesperson seems to agree, telling Joystiq, "At this time, all we are free to say is that Modern Warfare has taken on such a life of its own, it has become our focus now." Since Modern Warfare 2 is almost certain to spawn another iteration after it releases this November, it may be best to ditch the Call of Duty brand before we end up with something like Call of Duty 17: Modern Warfare 6: Moderner Warfare 3: Lasers are Bad News: Aerosmith. Update: Activision has just officially announced the November 10th arrival of "Modern Warfare 2" -- sans "Call of Duty."

The IGF/GDCAs are over, but they left us with the taste of shooting dudes in our mouth, courtesy of a trailer that provided our first look at Modern Warfare 2. What did we think? Well, the last one was one of our favorite games ever, so we're pretty much ready to cast our arms akimbo and hold it forever and ever. Are we alone on this one? You'll have to check the video to judge for yourself. The lack of Call of Duty branding is pretty weird though. Infinity Ward tells us they're still figuring it out. Also: It's coming Nov. 10! Freak out!P.S. Robert Bowling tells us that you should scrub through the trailer for more details. So do that.

If you somehow thought that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 wouldn't make it this year, then this trickle of news will put your worries to rest. Activision CFO Thomas Tippl confirmed today that Infinity Ward's shooter will definitely be arriving this holiday season and is, apparently, "looking incredible." He said at an annual Wedbush Morgan Securities meeting (via Kotaku) that Activision expects Modern Warfare 2 to be "the most anticipated game of the year," going so far as saying "Perhaps [it'll be] the number one game of the year despite the fact that it's only going to launch in the holiday season." That's a lot of bold statements coming from an executive. Hopefully, Infinity Ward's sophomore Modern Warfare game will live up to Tippl's hype.

  • Infinity Ward Twitter page welcomes suggestions for 'Modern Warfare 2'

You'd think Infinity Ward, developer of various Call of Duty titles (including 2007's enormously popular Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare) would just come out and say it already. Between the not-so-clandestine Tweets from IF Community Manager Robert "Fourzerotwo" Bowling and Activision big boss Bobby Kotick outright announcing the title to a group of potential advertisers, we're pretty sure Modern Warfare 2 exists ... somewhere. As if to add fuel to our already brightly burning fire, Infinity Ward recently created a Twitter page specifically for community contribution to their clearly in-progress game. Got something to tell Mr. Bowling and the rest of the folks hard at work on the next Modern Warfare game? Head over to your Twitter account and write in your under 140 character suggestion with a "#MW2" hashtag. And no, like you, we didn't know what a "hashtag" was until just now.
