What we're watching: Our usual Sunday night standbys, Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives take the night off to do recaps of the story to this point. If you've missed a few episodes or haven't watched at all, this may be a good night to check them out. But c'mon, we all know what time of year it is and we know why you got your HDTV. Sports.NBA and NHL Playoffs are kicking off this weekend, with four NBA games today and a couple hockey games. Nice to see the NHL back in the national spotlight and in high definition, playoff action is always must see TV. After LeBron's triple-double last night, Carmelo's attempt to be the last second hero (again), and the Spurs' dismantling of the Kings, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top today. Our traditional high-def listings continue below.

Or at least thats what the Sports Video Group's survey has uncovered (big surprise, with that name I really doubt the result was going to be most people get high definition for Discovery channel). The "Inside the mind of the HD sports fan" uncovered several statistics that will probably surprise very few of you. 39% of sports viewers are extremely disappointed when an event they want to watch is not in HD 22% will watch an event they otherwise would not have watched because it is in high definition Nearly 50% of HDTV owners cited sports as the reason for their purchase Hopefully the NBA is paying attention to studies like this, far too many times this season I've had to watch games in SD because they were not broadcast in high definition, or were not broadcast in HD nationally.

Attention hockey fans, Kukla's Korner is reporting that Doug Perlman, exec vp of Media for the NHL, says that, 'it would be fair to say we are close,' when asked about a deal with Apple to distribute hockey games via the iTunes Music store.Perhaps Steve will tell us exactly how close later today.[via Teal Sunglasses]

What we're watching: Sing it with me: "All I want for Chrismas is no more repeats, no more repeats, no more repeats..."; no Alvin, Simon and Theodore couldn't have sung it better. Unfortunately, it's a slow time of the year for new programming. We'll give you a choice, depending on your sports preferences. If you're into NHL Hockey, tune in to INHD at 8 p.m. for a 1080i presentation of the NHL on OLN (on INHD; don't ask). Tonight's game takes place in St. Louis where the Stars take on the Blues. If you prefer the NFL, you can catch ABC's last Monday Night Football game tonight at 9 p.m. The game between the Patriots and Jets is a real yawner; the better part of the broadcast is expected to be the various highlights over the last 36 years from MNF as it moves to EPSN next year. We take our helmets hats off to three-and-a-half decades of great Monday Night Football on ABC; the high-def presentations over the past several years were fantastic. After the jump is our traditional listing of HD programs throughout the night.
