Slowly but surely, sparse details regarding Hideo Kojima's "Project Ogre" begin to coalesce in the dark, nebulous void of unannounced games. We already know that Project Ogre will be an open world game with 100-plus hours of content, and that it will be a "very subdued experience," but what that experience actually is has remained a mystery. We have learned, however, that Kojima's use of the word "Ogre" in the project's codename is literal, rather than figurative, and that the game will deal with actual ogres in some capacity, according to a tweet translated by Andriasang. It's also interesting to note that the Japanese word for ogre, "oni," can also be translated to mean "devil" or "demon," so we may end up with one of those rather than an actual ogre. Our prediction is that this whole thing turns out to be a licensed Urusei Yatsura dating game.

Capcom recently held an event in Japan to celebrate the launch of the Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition DLC pack. There it revealed new costumes for the recently added fighters Yun, Yang, Oni and Evil Ryu, dubbed the Arcade Challengers Pack. These outfits will include each fighter's arranged outfit for the arcades, as well as a custom costume designed specifically for the console DLC. The costume pack will be available on PS3 and Xbox 360 on July 5 for 320 MS Points ($4). On top of that, Capcom talked about an improved version of its iOS port, which is currently on sale for a buck on iTunes. Street Fighter IV Volt: Battle Protocol will release sometime in July -- Volt will sport WiFi multiplayer and three new characters: Balrog, Cody and Vega. A total of 17 characters will be playable in Volt. %Gallery-127046%

Now that Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition is proliferating throughout arcades, players are rapidly unlocking the two new hidden characters, Evil Ryu and "Oni." Both fighters are strong, with reduced vitality to balance them. "Oni" looks significantly different from Akuma, with glowing white flames for hair. And Evil Ryu, as in previous Street Fighter games, is a stronger, faster version of Ryu with some of Akuma's abilities. IPlayWinner has compiled full move sets for both characters, allowing you to study up before you attempt to take on the denizens of your local game center. Check past the break for video of both characters in action (with some NSFW commentary from players), and find more at Shoryuken. Update: Youtube has removed videos featuring the two hidden characters due to copyright claims made by Capcom. [Thanks, Paul and Jim!]

  • Speculation: Bungie's next project is an MMO?

I'm not quite sure where Hardcore Casual gets this from (I'm guessing it's somewhere between thin air and someplace a little more "intimate"), but he's got an interesting bit of speculation coming off of the big news last week that Halo-maker Bungie and their publisher Microsoft are cutting some ties. He traces Bungie's growth along side Blizzard's (Myth: Warcraft:: Oni: Ghost), and concludes that, now that they're free of Halo and Microsoft's direct influence, Bungie's next project will be their World of Warcraft: an MMO. Now that is an interesting idea. Like Blizzard, Bungie has always been all about the possibilities of online play, and even though Halo 3 is not actually an MMO, there is no shortage of ways for people to interact with each other through the game-- from Forge to the different coop modes, to the "XP" system in multiplayer, Bungie knows how to get people online and keep them there. And Bungie definitely knows how to build worlds-- the Halo universe alone has inspired many books and countless pages of fan fiction and speculation, not to mention that there are big hints that it's connected to Bungie's other big series of games, Marathon. When you look at Bungie's past and the type of games that they've created, they definitely do seem like a great candidate to make a popular MMO.Of course, whatever Bungie does next is up to Bungie, and, as Blizzard well knows, taking on as big a responsibility as an ongoing MMO can change a company all the way down to its foundation-- for better or worse. But as much as he probably just made it up, Hardcore Casual is right-- Bungie's got the reach, the funds, and the knowhow to create the next big virtual world. Whether they choose to tackle it or not is up to them.
