The public test realms, everybody's favorite WoW sandbox, are now up and running for patch 2.0.7: The 2.0.7 Public Test Realms are now live and we invite all players to help test the upcoming changes by copying characters and downloading the PTR client. You can find the most current 2.0.7 patch notes here. You can begin copying your characters and downloading the 2.0.7 client through Account Management here: https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/ptr/ As always please use the Test Realm Forum for any reports of bugs or issues with the patch being tested, as well as any conversation concerning the PTRs. Test Realm Forum: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/board.html?sid=1&forumId=11572 As ever, full patch notes after the cut. The most interesting items to my eye are "The amount of haste granted by a point of haste rating has been increased by about 50%" and, following up on the "Argent Dawn" scam, "Players can no longer send gift wrapped packages via COD."

  • 2.0.6 hits PTRs: small nerfs for Priests and Hunters, nerfs and buffs for Mages

Another week, another patch. WoW 2.0.6 PTRs are now up, and with them, patch notes. Here's the Priest, Hunter, and Mage stuff; behind the cut is the bug fixes (not much interesting there besides hopefully pet bars being fixed). Marksmanship Hunters lost a bit of damage, Priests' Shadow Word: Pain lost a bit of damage, and Mages' Fireball and Frostbolt lost a bit as well. However, Counterspell is now non-Global Cooldown, which means you can (for example) Counterspell and then immediately cast another spell. I honestly thought Mana Shield already did absorb magical damage as well as physical; shows what I know about mages.Hunters "Silencing Shot" now does only 50% of weapon damage instead of 75%. The base damage for "Arcane Shot" has been reduced by about 9% and the bonus damage from ranged attack power reduced from 20% to 15%. The bonus damage for "Barrage" is now 4/8/12% for ranks 1/2/3. [used to be 5/10/15%] The bonus damage for "Improved Barrage" is now 4/8/12% for ranks 1/2/3. [used to be 5/10/15%] Mages Each rank of "Improved Fireball" now reduces your spell damage coefficient by 2%. Each rank of "Improved Frostbolt" now reduces your spell damage coefficient by 2%. "Counterspell" no longer triggers the global cooldown. "Mana Shield" now absorbs magical damage as well as physical damage. Priests The bonus coefficient for "Shadow Word: Pain" has been reduced by about 9%. This should result in about 5% less damage done by "Shadow Word: Pain" for the typical priest.

2.0.5 seems to have rolled out again, this time with fewer problems (I'm now on and playing, anyway). I doubt very many of you are reading from work (unless you're in Europe, I suppose), but here are the rather boring patch notes: World of Warcraft Client Patch 2.0.5 (01/14/2007) Increased the maximum number of realms that can be listed in the Realm List. Updated the Terms of Use. Created an option to disable UI Acceleration for users of select video cards experiencing graphical corruption of the User Interface. To utilize this option, enter the following line to the Config.wtf file, located in the WTF subfolder of the game: Set UIFaster "x" Where x equals: 0 - This turns off all UI acceleration 1 - For Internal Use Only - DO NOT USE! 2 - Enables partial UI acceleration only. 3 - Enables all UI acceleration. Example: Set UIFaster "2" Note: For users experiencing graphical corruption of the User Interface, it is recommended to try option 2 in order to correct the problem. If this does not solve the issue, then use option 0 to disable all UI Accleration.

  • Mystery patch (2.0.4) goes live -- and I found the patch notes

Earlier today, Blizzard quietly released patch 2.0.4. The patch, however, did not come with any patch notes, just giving the standard pointer to their previous patches page -- but the latest info on that page is from 2.0.1. When asked in the European forums what the patch was for, Aeus merely replied "To use a very old cliche: Patience is a virtue ;)".In a stroke of "why didn't I think of that sooner", I looked at their current patches page, and there it sits. The patch notes for 2.0.4 are as follows: Fixed a bug where flags in Arathi Basin could be captured at extremely long distances. Fixed a bug where players who had set dungeons to Heroic difficulty level previous to patch 2.0.3 could no longer enter instances. Fixed a bug that was causing multiple LUA errors in the German and French battlegrounds. Word on my realm is that various raid interface errors were fixed, but that AV was not. If there were raid fixes, though, I'm not sure why they're not in the patch notes. What have you guys noticed with the new patch?

  • More beta expansion changes

The latest beta patch has come down with some interesting changes. As usual, some of them are good, some of them are unbelievably good, and some of them will make you want to cry. My thoughts: rogues have come out nicely, if the unofficial notes are to be believed. And by "nicely" I mean "my main is now a rogue!" Also in the patch and not in the notes -- a couple of warlock nerfs. You may check out Nethaera's official notes and Idejder's unofficial notes, or read on to see both.

  • Unlisted 2.0.1 changes

And now it's time for the 2.0.1 changes that didn't quite make it into the patch notes, courtesy of the World of Raids forums. I've listed the interesting ones, but if you're the sort that needs every last detail, hop on over to the complete list at World of Raids. Escape artist is now an instant cast. Blood Fury also increases spell damage depending on your class. Increases ranged and melee damage for hunters. The Looking For Group Channel has been removed. The Quest log has been expanded to hold 25 quests. All hunter pets have been normalized to a 2.0 speed. *unconfirmed* Warlock's Spellstones and Firestones can be equipped in the Wand slot. Many profession that used to require a recipe, plan, etc, to learn are now trainable by the corresponding profession trainer. (No, we don't have any details on which.) Spells automatically update on your action bar when new ranks are purchased. A hunter's Arcane Shot benefits more from ranged attack power. *unconfirmed* Four new bank slots! And an extra bag slot that costs 25g to purchase. New quests have been added throughout the zones. Including various Draenei and Blood Elf camps. Many new items have been added to various vendors, including jewelcrafting plans. All class specific spell books that previously dropped in dungeons are now trainable at level 60. Players can change their title from a drop down menu to show their highest PvP rank next to their name.

  • Patch 1.12: Undocumented Changes

Another patch, and another set of changes that didn't quite make it into the patch notes. Of course, everything on the test realms is subject to change, but as it stands, this is what you will find on the test realms. This list seems to be updated regularly, so if you aren't planning on playing on the test realms, check back often to see what's happening. Most controversial of these changes seems to be a battlegrounds change that automatically adds everyone to a group upon entering a battleground - a group they cannot leave. As a healer, I am always glad to have a group in battlegrounds in order to be better able to monitor my group's health and step in as needed - but to those who preferred to gain maximum honor per kill by attacking battlegrounds ungrouped, this is the end of the battlegrounds system.

The number of available character transfers to the test realm reset sometime Friday evening - usually a sign that the public test realms are coming online soon. The rumors flying around on the forums garnered an official response from Tseric, who said that efforts were made to get the PTR online Friday, but it was likely to be pushed back until Monday. However, a lucky group of people were, apparently, able to download the new patch and find patch notes for it. I know you're curious, so read on for all the details.

  • Undocumented Changes in Patch 1.11

It seems that, with every new patch, there are always a few changes that, for one reason or another, don't make the release notes. But never fear, Blizzard won't be able to pull the wool over your eyes once you check out this list of undocumented changes in 1.11, compiled by the folks at WorldofWar.net. Nothing extremely signifigant was left unnoted, it seems, but there are plenty of little tidbits that are very helpful to know relating to specific quests, factions, and other things. Check out the list at their forums, and be sure to add anything you might have found, as well!

For every change in a patch, there's a dozen others that never quite made it into the patch notes.  Perhaps they were forgotten at the last minute or perhaps they were considered too trivial to note, but there's always something missing.  This thread, helpfully compiled by Greatness of Gorefiend server, is a list of all known changes that didn't make it into the patch notes - though it may not yet be comprehensive.

The patch notes for today's bug fix patch are available for your reading pleasure.  Rogues especially will applaud the bug fixes and other than that, nothing seems particularly surprising.  The patch should be live on all US servers, which seem to be happily back online.  Log on and enjoy!

  • Fake Patch 1.11 Notes?

There are some odd and interesting patch notes floating around recently, initially showing up on a Chinese fan site.  With the quality of the English translation, it's difficult to understand what some of the items in the notes are trying to say, and thus difficult to come to a solid conclusion as to their validity.  However, you can look over a translation here and come to your own conclusions.  Personally, I lean towards them being myth - CM Tyren has already coming out claiming as much, and with real leaks, threads on the topic tend to mysteriously disappear.

Well, it's official - I'm rolling a Gnome druid in 1.11!  Caydiem has been running around the forums posting 1.11 patch notes, and all I can say is that they're utterly hilarious and you really must read them for yourself.  I warn against trying to read them if you happen to be surfing at work right now - it's hard to help laughing.  [Thanks, Saba]
