  • Happy Halloween from DS Fanboy!

The above pumpkin, carved by reader graham, hits us in our various weak spots for the most massive damage imaginable. It fills us with the Halloween spirit (if there is even such a thing and if there is, patent pending) and makes us anxious to go out into the living room and give out candy to trick-or-treaters. What about you guys? Still at that age where you can make off like a bandit in the night, pillow case full of chocolate goods? Or are you too old to pass for young and, like us, must instead sit in your living room, bowl of candy in-hand?

With the recent confirmation that the Japanese version of Phoenix Wright 2: Justice For All has a very good English language translation, the good folks over at Siliconera have imported the game and spent some time with it. This, obviously, causes us to want their deaths, slow and painful, as our rabid addiction to the Ace Attorney's adventures bring out the best, and worst, in us.Jealousy aside, we're pleased to report that they've had a good time with the title. While the sequel boasts a down-sized case load (a total of 4 cases), they are said to be more complex and, with the introduction of the "Psyche-Locks," overall improved gameplay.

  • Phoenix Wright: Justice For All translation is just fine

According to some recent import impressions of the newly-remade-for-the-DS Gyakutan Saiban 2 (that's Phoenix Wright 2: Justice For All over here in America), the English translation stored on the Japanese cart seems to be the official translation that will be used here in North America. One of the biggest draws of the game was its extremely well-written and localized script, so many importers were wary that the English option from Japan would be a hack job of pain, suffering, and Engrish.Worry not! The importer assures us that the writing is as goofy and hilarious as the original, so go ahead and import this sucker, qualm-free. He does mention a few rather glaring typos (which will certainly be fixed before American release), but if you can handle such trivial annoyances, than you can get your gavel on months before the rest.

  • Like a Phoenix from the ashes: Nintendo World 2006

Okay, so it's not Space World, the legendary Nintendo-only event whose last appearance occurred in 2001. Nintendo's announcement of a new event, however, named Nintendo World 2006, certainly conjures fond memories. The event, which takes place over a mammoth ten-day period from November 3rd to the 12th (and again on November 25th and 26th), will feature hands-on playtime with the Wii and some of the hottest new DS titles. Best of all, it's open to the Japanese public, and completely free. Awesome. While it's unknown if Nintendo will be making any major announcements at the event, it's understood that they will, at the very least, announce more specific details of the Virtual Console service (read: launch titles) a bit closer to Wii Day. What better place to spring some good news on the unsuspecting Japanese?(The image is a personal favorite, from digital artist Greg Martin. Check more of his work here.)

  • The one TGS booth to rule them all: Phoenix Wright courtroom

It's things like these that make us wish we were in the land of the rising sun. Our love of Phoenix and his "mad lawyerin' skillz" have kept us warm through many a night as we clutched our copy of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney against our chest and fell into a sound sleep. We've also constructed a wonderful shrine in our garage. Capcom issued a restraining order, but luckily that doesn't apply to posting entries in online blogs! The pictures over at Famitsu show one heck of a courtroom mock-up. In fact, barring any items out of stock at our local Home Depot, we're fairly certain that we've found our next home project. It'll be kind of hard to do, what with us needing to keep these mandatory Joystiq employment ankle bracelets on at all times, but we'll manage. Also, be sure to check after the break for a trailer for Justice For All from TGS.[Via Go Nintendo]

We've been saving these for awhile, for that rainy day (hey, it's raining somewhere) in front of your computer. Here at the Fanboy offices, you either love Phoenix Wright or you lie face down in a pool of your own blood and lower intestines. And because we'd like to extend that tender love to all of you as well, here are some flash animations put together over a NewGrounds, which feature characters from the game saying and singing some ridiculous things. They're quite hilarious, especially if you're familiar with the series (and we know you are), so take a look!Phoenix Wrong 1Phoenix Wrong 2Phoenix Wrong 3

Some snippets of the orchestrated Phoenix Wright soundtrack releasing in Japan have hit the net and like the responsible Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney junkies that we are, we've already got them downloaded, loaded into the mp3 player and are listening to them right now. We also burned a CD for the car. You can find the mp3 files under the GYAKUTEN MEETS ORCHESTRA header after clicking the read link.Another interesting little tidbit of news is that Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is currently the number 5 best seller in Amazon's videogame category. We enjoy seeing such success (say that 5 times fast!) for the spiky-haired lawyer, not only because it increases our chances of getting localizations for every game in the franchise, but also because it shows that American audiences are hungry for these types of games in general. Maybe Konami will notice and give us a similar game we're dying for?[Thanks Kat!]

  • Rumor: Phoenix Wright 2 to feature English option in Japan [Update 1]

A vicious rumor has surfaced that the sequel to DS Fanboy's favorite lawyer-em-up Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is to feature an English language option in the Japanese release. There is, however, some corroboration from Play-Asia, which states this to be true and that the game will release with a budget price. So why is Phoenix Wright: Justice For All having an English language option such a vicious rumor? Because if it turns out to be false, we will literally destroy all life. Or, y'know, wait for the game's release next year. Whichever happens first.[Thanks Andrew Yoon!][Update 1 by Jason Wishnov: the term "viscous", used to describe a fluid with high viscosity, has been changed to the proper term "vicious". David's a little slow, you know, like molasses.]

Are we wrong to sometimes wake up in the dark of night, cold sweat gathered upon our brow, screaming out for Phoenix Wright to save us? No, of course not, such an obsession is clearly healthy. So it's only natural we would want to dress ourselves in garb that loudly proclaims that we want you to hold it, because clearly something is contradictory in your statement. If you're as obsessed as we are, then you're already at the comment screen, furiously typing away to tell us that we already posted about the Hold it! shirt. To that, we present two other shirts, one for the ladies and one for the guys, which boldly proclaim to anyone staring at your chest that you object to such ogling. We've already ordered about 12 of each style of shirt, but for any of you fine readers out there considering purchasing for the first time or already in ownership of one of the kickass shirts, why not take a picture and send it in? We'll build a perverted shrine post them and perhaps make up a story about your super-hero origins.Read - Men's Objection! T-shirtRead - Women's Objection! T-shirtRead - Men's Hold it! In the case of the perjurious PlayStation, Phoenix Wright goes on to defend the PS3 against some of the accusations surrounding its E3 05 promises and motion-sensing controller. Now, we sure aren't any kind of PS3 Fanboy blog, but the overall message that Phoenix conveys in this video is strong enough to transcend the fanboy boundaries and touch our hearts. While Phoenix may appear to be a Nintendo fanboy, he remains interested in the PS3 and shows us that brand loyalty beyond reason will only make us look the fool in a court of law. [Note: We understand this isn't our regular kind of post, but you guys know by now that pretty much anything related to Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney gets posted. Maybe you'd like to object?][Thanks BPM Omega!]

We've received many reports that the re-release of the immeasurably awesome game known as Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is already sold out of its first shipment via popular retail site Amazon.com. The listing now states that any orders placed will not be shipped until the 29th of this month. Your best bet for getting your hands on it now are to either try other outlets online or hit up the brick-and-mortar retail spots in your town. We actually saw a few copies available at our local Target yesterday, if that helps...Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney was re-released on August 10th. The game follows a young defense attorney named Phoenix Wright and is published by Capcom. The game has been known to cure diseases both big and small, from Sudden Exploding Clown Syndrome to the dreaded Boogie Fever.[Thanks Robert and Kat!]

Seriously, we were almost done for, set to take the fall for a crime we did not commit. Phoenix Wright, the ace attorney that he is, managed to cut holes through the prosecution and get us off the hook. Maybe you are in need of a good lawyer also?Second course is a humorous cut-up over at YTMND, which you may well know is a good way to waste some time. Also, there's some hilarious stuff there sometimes.OK, let's see your own submissions! [Thanks BPM Omega!]

Look, we try not to judge anyone, but we honestly feel that if you don't own, or haven't at least played Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, then you do not deserve to work here. Pack up your desk, don't bother to finish out the week, it's over, we're through, goodbye. Wait...we can't fire you, can we? Well then, we're no longer BFF, so how about them apples?!You can put a stop to this madness, however, by simply taking the opportunity to purchase Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney once it comes back to retail shelves. Amazon and Target are already taking preorders, so there's that option. Or you could set foot out into the deadly wilderness and brave the vast amounts of nature (see: grizzly bears) in order to procure a copy at your brick-and-mortar outlet of choice.[Thanks Mitchel!]

One of the requirements for being a part of the DS Fanboy staff is an undying, borderline obsessive, love for Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. There's just no dancing around it; if you've failed to play it then you're fired. As such, our previously stated love for Phoenix and his immaculate "lawyerin' skillz" causes many of the staff to often wake in the middle of the night, covered in cold sweat, screaming out for our hero.As such, you can imagine we've been pretty excited for the latest installment, not only so that we may defend the innocent from an almost certain doom in the courtroom, but also so that we may scream "hold it" again in public without looking like total basket cases (people just don't get it if you aren't holding a DS). So, like they say, when in Rome do as the Romans do and join us in quietly, and quite disturbingly, fondling our monitors over these new Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice For All screenshots.

  • New Phoenix Wright 2 screens and info

If there is one thing we here at DS Fanboy want to be known for as we are killed in a hail of gunfire is our undying love for Phoenix Wright. Causing witnesses to crack under pressure on the stand is like the sweetest of luncheon meats to us and the announcement of a sequel hitting US shores actually caused Ludwig to have a full-blown seizure. Me? Well, let's just say I needed a cold shower afterward.More information than you needed to know aside, turns out Phoenix Wright: Justice For All is a remake of the Game Boy Advance game. Where in the first game you found contradictions in witness testimony to see through their thinly-veiled lies, in Justice For All you'll be attempting to break through each witness' 'Psyche Lock,' which is best summed up as a kind of mental barrier guarding the truth. The role of the new prosecutor in Justice For All (well, new for us anyway) is the puffy-shirt-wearing Franziska von Karma. Clearly she did something wrong in her past life for being stuck in a shirt like that in this one. Hssn't she seen Seinfeld?

  • Extendable stylus from Hori

You know, if you're anything like me, you should be locked up get a lot of hand cramps when trying to play Meteos or Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney for any kind of extended period of time. Most of this can be attributed to the small size of the stylus (some of us aren't lucky enough to have a DS Lite yet to enjoy its better stylus). So I was pretty psyched when I saw an extendable stylus that actually fits in the slot on the DS. In checking around to see if different types of stylus with this feature were available (I honestly couldn't find anywhere to purchase it at the original link), I came across this for the small sum of $2.99 US that also locks into the DS' slot.
