Have you watched SOE's latest war correspondent video for PlanetSide 2? If not, you'll want to click past the cut for a look-see at some heart-thumping MMOFPS gameplay presented in a news documentary format. Yesterday we took you on a textual tour of PlanetSide 2's new Esamir continent. Today Sony Online Entertainment has released a new video so that you can actually see it for yourself. Beginning this weekend, the new landmass will be accessible to everyone via the game's external beta. SOE says that Esamir "shield generators won't be disabled as easily, so expect to run an overload process to secure victory." There are also new vehicle and weapon certifications available, as well as new empire-specific sidegrades. Check out the clip after the cut to get up to speed. [Source: SOE press release]

The last PlanetSide 2 trailer was a bit... eh, well, let's not beat around the bush. It was kinda cheesy. Thankfully Sony Online Entertainment has gotten back to what it does best with a rip-roaring romp through the battlefields of Auraxis courtesy of a new clip released at Gamescom. Galaxies? Check. Ground armor? Check. Infantry, jetpack, and air-to-air combat? Check, check, and check. The new video hits all the sweet spots, so have a look-see after the break!

Sony Online Entertainment and Chinese publisher The9 have released a new PlanetSide 2 video focused on the nostalgic remembrances of veteran PlanetSide players. The featurette runs for approximately four minutes, and while most of the footage is talking-head (and subtitled) interview clips, there are glimpses of PS2 gameplay to be found as well. SOE also wants you to know about its PlanetSide Vet Video Contest. If you're a PS veteran, you can submit a 30-second video confessional describing your most memorable game experience for a chance to win passes to SOE Live in Las Vegas. The top three entries will win passes to the October convention, while the runners-up will be highlighted on the PS2 YouTube playlist. Check out the clip after the cut. [Source: SOE press release]

Not a bad week for shooter news, wouldn't you agree? Let's see, we had PlanetSide 2's heart-pounding Death is No Excuse CG trailer. We also had a huge Tribes: Ascend update. While those two juggernauts get plenty of press coverage, one shooter that's still operating relatively under the radar is Heroes & Generals. If you've read The Firing Line before, though, you know I'm a big fan of Reto-Moto's browser-based World War II title. Follow me past the break for the latest updates on that and more.

There are trailers, and then there are trailers for trailers. Sony Online Entertainment has released the latter today in support of its upcoming PlanetSide 2 MMOFPS. The clip in question is 46 seconds of CG awesome sauce, but apparently it's just a teaser for the full-length video that will debut on July 25th. It's called Death is No Excuse, and as you might expect, it's full of battlefield hijinks and a deep-voiced trailer guy who seemingly comes standard with every action-charged preview ever made. "War will not determine who is right," he says, "only who is left." Cue the dramatic music (and the fanboy squees) and head past the cut to check it out.
