Official PSP-2000 headphones are now available on amazon.com, and they're just $20! It's a pretty good deal, so we'd definitely recommend getting a piece of this action while it lasts. Unfortunately, the headphones that came with PSP-1000 are not compatible with the newer models. Without a compatible remote, PSP users will find themselves unable to use other accessories, like the PSP headset.[Via CAG]

If you've been looking to jump into PSP land for personal reasons, perhaps are looking to upgrade to a new PSP-2000 "slim," consider yourself a Star Wars fanboy, or maybe just like white things, the new Darth Vader PSP could be just the ticket. The limited edition unit should be on store shelves today, but only comes as part of a $199 bundle which includes the new Star Wars Battlefront game. Of course, we're guessing most people willing to track down a PSP with Darth Vader's likeness silkscreened on the back aren't going to balk at playing a little bit of Battlefront now and then. And if paying money for things isn't really your style, you can always try your luck over at our sister site Joystiq, since they're giving away five of these bundles to some lucky readers.Read - Playstation Blog's announcementRead - Joystiq's giveaway

  • PSP Slim security trounced by Team M33's custom firmware

Well kids, you won't have to wait too long to be hacking, cracking, phreaking, duping, shooting, dumpster-diving, and generally getting biz-zay with your PSP Slim / Lite, as the outrageous tricksters known as Team M33 have just released their do-it-all custom firmware (version 3.6, for those keeping score at home), thus confirming Pandora's Battery as a "go" (amongst other things) on the new systems. If you understand what we're talking about, you'll be pleased to know that homebrews from the GAME, GAME150 and GAME360 directories load fine, though some homebrews written specifically for the 1.50 kernel won't run properly (due to some hardware and screen problems on the Slim). Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines, don your helmets, and get ready to seriously rumble.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Those patiently awaiting the slimmer PSP, codenamed PSP-2000, will probably enjoy (or be exceedingly envious) of Joystiq's hands-on with the forthcoming device, but regardless of what emotions it evokes, we're givin' it to ya straight. Hordes of readers submitted questions about the impending PSP, and nothing provides the answers like a good bit of time handling the actual unit in question. So go on, tag the read link to catch an early glimpse of the PSP Lite, and who knows, maybe one or two of your own burning questions will be addressed, too.

  • Sony's slim PSP gets launch date, price for Europe

While it's not too terribly surprising that the forthcoming PSP's price was outed in Japanese yen first (not to mention those coveted extra hues they'll get), it is somewhat curious to hear that Europe scored the details before that other country. Nevertheless, Sony's David Reeves reportedly stated at a SCEE event at E3 that the slimmer PSP would "come out at €169 ($233) in all the PAL territories at the beginning of September," so we're going on pure assumption here that this will include the likes of Australia, too. Hey, we're really sorry about snatching Beckham and all, but at least you blokes (and dames) know when to hunt down the refreshed PSP, right?

Showing a little love for the home crowd, Sony announced today that in addition to the three "basic" colors of black, silver, and white, Japanese PSP fans will also be getting the PSP lite in three metallic pastel shades: Rose Pink, Lavender Purple, and, um, Blue. No word on if we'll ever see these officially make it Stateside, but seeing as the original PSP was unlocked, you can bet some eager graymarketer is getting ready to cash in.PS. You know Sony should've given the new model an official name when even PSP Fanboy is calling it the "PSP lite."[Via PSP Fanboy]

  • A look at the redesigned PSP's insides & manual

If you can't wait to get your hands on the redesigned PSP, than perhaps the inside look at the system, and it's manual over at Ookm will interest you. The blog post does a good job of not just showing what the new PSP version has for specs, but also what the original was equipped with (in case you forgot). It's certainly interesting to see diagrams of how the new PSP will hook up to your TV, and where exactly those component cables will plug into. The post also shows off parts of the manual that explain the USB charging feature, the expanded main memory, how it will use a new remote, and exactly where the WLAN switch was moved to. It's all great info, but as a PSP fan it's always difficult to see a PSP ripped open.[Thanks Don!]

  • Original PSP to be phased out

Much like Sony is phasing out the 60 Gig PS3, so too will go the original PSP. Sony PR, Patrick Seybold had this to say: "The newly designed PSP wil replace the original PSP design starting in September with the $169.99 PSP Core Pack and the $199.99 Daxter PSP Entertainment Pack." So if for some reason you like your handhelds with more bulk and less capabilities, quickly go out, and buy the original PSP while supplies last.
