Pukka 1.6 brings menubar item, Spotlight support and more
Pukka is one of our favorite utilities for posting to del.icio.us, Yahoo!'s social bookmarking site, and an update today helps an already great utility integrate even better with the way you work. Pukka v1.6, available via its built-in update system, now offers a menubar item with complete access to your bookmarks, organized by tag. Bookmarks are now indexed by Spotlight, and accessing the list of your 'marks via the Dock icon is far snappier. There are also of course a few bug and UI fixes, and those running the latest Leopard beta (as of this writing) can now use Pukka. A demo of Pukka is available, while a single license costs $12.95.
Pukka 1.5 adds Ma.gnolia support and more
Code Sorcery has released the next update to an old TUAW favorite, the del.icio.us client Pukka. Among the significant changes include a faster start-up, which means that the application can down be set to quit, rather than merely hide, after a successful post. Perhaps most significant in this release however is that Pukka can now post to the Ma.gnolia service via the Mirrord API. In fact, Pukka now allows you to enter the posting API URL manually (above), so it will work with any service that uses the del.icio.us API. Pukka also still gives you access to all your del.icio.us account bookmarks from its Dock icon.On the downside, the price of Pukka has been raised to $12.95, but as the only multiple account del.icio.us client available I think it's still worth it. Pukka 1.4: No More Dupes
I just posted something to del.icio.us with my favorite client, Pukka, and up pops a notification that it's been revved to 1.4. Now as much as I like Pukka (above all for its multiple account functionality) that would probably not be worth a post, except for the fact that version 1.4 adds the one thing I've always most wanted: duplicate warning! The whole point (as far as I'm concerned) of things like del.icio.us is that I don't have to remember what I'm posting there, but by the same token that means I often post the same thing several times. The new version of Pukka "knows" everything you've posted, and if you try to post a duplicate it will tell you: you're "given the original post date along with the option to cancel, continue editing as new and overwriting the old post, or populating Pukka's editing form with the old post for review or refinement." In addition, 1.4 adds hierarchical menu access to all your bookmarks (through their tags) in the Dock icon, as well as a few other things as detailed on the Pukka blog. AppleScripts for integrating Safari, NetNewsWire, del.icio.us and Yojimbo - oh my!
I don't know how I missed this post at Hawk Wings a few weeks ago, but I am glad I found it at least sooner or later: Tim Gaden has been keeping a watchful eye on the Yojimbo mailing list, and he caught a set of scripts written by Dylan Damian that can take a link from either Safari or NetNewsWire, bookmark it on del.icio.us with Pukka (which I highly recommend as a paid user) and then archive the link in Yojimbo using the same tags you used on del.icio.us. I completely agree with Tim: after testing these scripts out with NetNewsWire, they work like a charm and have just been added to my toolbelt.You can score the scripts by checking the Yojimbo mailing list archives (they're online here if you aren't subscribed), or simply by heading over to Tim's post at Hawk Wings, as he is hosting the files himself.
Pukka 1.3
Everyone's favorite social bookmarking site, del.icio.us, is great and all, but is lacking when it comes to quickly bookmarking sites as you browse. That's where Pukka comes in. Instead of being taken to a page on the del.ico.us site, as one would if using the default bookmarklet, Pukka pops up a sleek little interface on top of the page you want to bookmark, just as if you were bookmarking within your browser. Just enter a few tags, a description, and viola! Recently updated to version 1.3, Pukka now supports private posting, so you can bookmark all those "questionable" sites without fear that your friends and family will see them and disown you. Release 1.3 also introduces full AppleScript support. Pukka is available as a Universal Binary download from Code Sorcery Workshop.[via Hawk Wings]
Top ten supplemental blogging apps
Chances are if I am sitting at my Mac I am blogging (perhaps not for TUAW, but for some blog somewhere) and so this list of the top ten supplemental blogging apps for OS X caught my eye.The apps that make the cut are: Quicksilver (a TUAW favorite) Firefox (though Flock gets a mention) Pukka NewsFire Transmit Image Trick TextMate Voice Candy Dictionary.app Adium and Skype A fairly good list, though it doesn't cover some of the apps I use whilst blogging. Pukka updated to v1.2
Pukka, the versatile, multi-account and light-weight del.icio.us posting client, has been updated to version 1.2. New features and fixes include: Pukka now uses the new SSL del.icio.us API for increased security as well as a more reliable means of storing passwords in the keychain. The tags field now resizes in height as necessary to accommodate all of the tags that you type. There is a new option to disable warning messages when resetting, closing or quitting with unposted data. Bug fixes and tweaks: hiding behavior, more reliable determination of successful posting, success dialog "Visit del.icio.us" button, pasting into tags field, added tooltips, smaller font in Bonjour drawer, problem with semicolon in posting fields, only attempt to use Growl when it's running A demo of Pukka is available from Code Sorcery Workshop, and a license will cost a mere $5.
Fast posting to del.icio.us with Pukka 1.0
Pukka (pronounced: puck-uh) is "a minimalist posting client for del.icio.us." It is a very slim but powerful stand-alone del.icio.us client that features tag auto-completion, handling of multiple accounts, Bonjour discovery of other Pukka users, bookmarklets, Growl alerts, .weblog and .url compatibility, keyboard navigation and more.It looks like a good amount of time and, perhaps more importantly, a lot of thought went into Pukka 1.0. I remember hearing its name when beta versions of NNW 2.1 started landing, which is another advantage Pukka has: it should be able to work with most newsreader apps that can either post links to del.icio.us with an external editor, or readers that use some kind of 'blog this' functionality.Pukka is a Universal Binary.
