Joystiq's pumpkin-carving contest got us inspired -- now we're dying to carve something game-themed into pumpkins of our own. That seems to take some artistic ability, however -- something we're not sure we've got a lot of just lying around. Of course, then we have to decide just what to imprint into the rough orange flesh of our chosen gourd, and that's where things get tough. We could go scary, of course ... but there's just something about the awesomeness of Contra 4 that makes us want to carve some bad dudes into a pumpkin or two.How about you? Have you ever carved a game-themed pumpkin? If so, what was it? If not, have you considered it? What would you choose?

October 31st is quickly approaching and that means you have two things to do. One being that you only have a week or so to carve a pumpkin to decorate your doorstep for the night's trick-or-treaters. The other issue that needs taking care of is that you'll have to stock up on a year supply of Halloween candy. We here at X3F can only help you with one of your duties, so we're leaving the candy stockpile up to you.Posted over at Xbox.com is a set of four downloadable Xbox 360 themed pumpkin carving stencils to aid in creating the ultimate 360 pumpkin. The stencils feature such iconic 360 themes like the ring of light, the infamous "X" logo and the silhouette of our white console. Don't think you have the talent to make a 360 pumpkin? Well, you're wrong, it's actually quite easy. Simply choose your favorite design, download it, print it off, cut it out, slap it on your orange gourde of choice, hollow out said gourde and start cutting out the black stuff. Then all you have to do is light a candle inside and voila! You now have Xbox 360 Halloween pride. Just be leery of the dreaded red ring of death ... it's reported that Halloween brings four times the amount of red ring failures than normal. Boo!

  • Tabard or not tabard, that is the question

brkn_doll over at WoW Ladies rolled a Draenei shammy to join up in her friends' guild, and when she picked up the tabard for it, she saw... well, unless you're color blind, you can't miss it*. As she says, she looks like a pumpkin. What do you do when you finally put on a guild tabard, only to find that you wish you could take it back off again? For April Fool's Day, my guild leader turned our tabard hot pink, which I actually thought looked kind of good on my female Blood Elf mage. My shaman wouldn't have looked good in it, but he's wearing the Tabard of the Protector anyway, so there's one option: get a new tabard. Not all of them are bad-- my gnome warrior was in a guild for a while with a blue and gold tabard, and that little minitank looked good. Have you ever confronted a guild leader about their bad tabard choices? Or if you're a guildleader, what made you choose your tabard colors? If they're orange and green, you should probably just go ahead and pay the 10g to fix it, because if doll's experience is any indication, it's hard to look like a badass when you're wearing a pumpkin.*Because I know someone will ask, her strikingly clean UI is apparently built with Tet's UI. You're welcome.

When it comes to the Xbox 360 community, not all fanboys are created equal -- and neither are all pumpkins. We received around 20 entries in our carving contest and all of them (except for the odd photoshop fake) were better than the average jack-o-lantern. Richard and I would like to thank all the contestants for making this a competitive contest that proved Xbox 360 fanboys have Halloween spirit and artistic talent to spare. And special thanks to our prize sponsor RockMeTV.com for providing a copy of Gears of War to give away.Without further ado, please view the official results of our 1st Annual Xbox 360 Pumpkin Carving Contest after the jump

Last chance to cast your vote in our 1st Annual Xbox 360 Pumpkin Carving Contest and help decide who get Gears of War for the price of a pumpkin. The polls close at 12am EST, right about the time squash futures crash back to earth (to Homer Simpson's dismay). It pains me to think of these works of vegetable art rotting on someone's front porch. Thanks to all who participated in the contest-- except the Photoshop cheats. We will officially announce the winners on Wednesday evening.

A hearty Halloween hello to all the fanboys who put their squash fruit skills to the test in our 1st Annual Xbox 360 Fanboy Pumpkin Carving Contest. Some of you obviously know how to carve pumpkins. Richard and I have narrowed down the entries to 10 finalists based on carving skill and originality, which we now present to our readership for a vote. The owner of the top Xbox-O-Lantern will receive a copy of Gears of War courtesy of RockMeTV with slightly less cool prizes for 2nd and 3rd place (XBL Unplugged Vol. 1 and UMK3 respectively). The ballot will close at midnight tonight, with any ties decided by a random drawing, so pick your favorite. This isn't Chicago, so please vote only once. We'll be plugging this post throughout the day to ensure as many participants as possible besides your Mom and friends. Pics are listed after the break in no particular order.

What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than carving an Xbox 360-themed Jack-O-Lantern for our 1st Annual Xbox 360 Pumpkin Carving Contest. Readers have submitted a number of quality efforts so far. We're accepting entries until late Monday and since everybody carves a pumpkin for Halloween anyway, there's really no exscuse for not putting blade to squash. Oh yeah -- First prize gets a copy of that under-the-radar sleeper title from Epic that you may have heard about. If you need inspiration, check out these the incredible pumkin art from last year's Halo.Bungie.org contest (Damn. I thought I had an original idea). They're holding the same thing again this year, so there's no reason you couldn't carve one Xbox-O-Lantern and enter it in both contests.

  • It's the Great Robotic Overlords, Charlie Brown: make a Cylon jack-o-lantern

Charlie would be better off trying to kick that football than tracking down this jack-o-lantern. The guys at Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories put their l33t stenciling, carving and LED wiring skills into this Cylon Centurion née pumpkin, and naturally posted all the info necessary to create your own. This stacks up pretty well against the pumpkin PC and even the Engadget pumpkin. But for truly evil and mad status, we'd prefer a fruit-based rendering of Number Six, destined to be destroyed October 31st by Starbuck Power Mac -- only to download, re-emerge next Halloween and continue its plan of human genocide through sweet, pie-based deliciousness. Blizzard has presented US players with two new Halloween-themed contests -- a pumpkin-carving contest and a costume contest. Each contest covers all of Blizzard's games, with prizes awarded for entries with a Starcraft, Warcraft, or Diablo theme. And both contests have been done before -- this marking the 4th year of pumpkin and the 3rd year of the costume contest. The rewards are not astounding (a copy of WoW and the board game for the pumpkin-carving contest, and a copy of WoW with a years' subscription for the costume contest), but the contests sound fun, nevertheless.
