  • European Qore-a-like coming in 2009

Sony UK and Future Publishing have today announced that they will be working together to deliver an "on-console digital magazine" for the PSN in the region. It doesn't have a name yet, but chances are it will be very similar to Qore, which is also produced by Future Publishing in the US. This magazine will be made available in the UK in early 2009, with other European countries getting their hands on it later in the year. Hopefully we'll get some more solid date and price info soon.It will feature "news, reviews, features and downloadable content on games, movies and more." Which sounds very similar to Qore (except for reviews, perhaps). We suspect this will be well received once it's released. Europeans have been asking for a Qore of their own for months, and it seems Sony has been listening. We're just wondering who the British equivilent of Veronica Belmont is going to be ...[Via press release]

  • SOCOM download codes are coming today for those who bought Qore

Do you remember, way back in the mists of time (well, three months ago ...) when you were given a choice? To buy Qore or not to buy Qore. For those of you who did, today is the day that it pays off, particularly if you're a SOCOM fan. There's a chance you're already in the beta but, if not, you should be receiving and email today with download instructions for the game client. Check out the PlayStation Blog to get a sneak peek at those instructions before they drop at around 5pm PST.The beta won't be available for download within Qore ep 1, so if you've been keeping it on your HDD for that reason you can feel free to delete it now. Only with the download code, redeemable through the Account Management menu of the XMB, will you be able to access the game. Remember, this is a beta, not a demo. We don't want to hear any whingeing about how bits and pieces are broken or buggy. Tell the appropriate people on the beta forum and they'll do their best to fix them before the full game releases.

The Motorstorm: Pacific Rift demo is now available for those who have an annual Qore subscription or purchased Episode 4 of the digital magazine last week. Other additions to this week's PSN lineup include PAIN's Amusement Park expansion and America's favorite "answering answers with a question" game show, JEOPARDY! The details about this week's update can be found after the break. The European PSN update has been delayed until tomorrow due to technical difficulties. PS3 Fanboy will have the update as soon as it shows up.

Here in the States, Qore subscribers will be able to fling mud across the startled faces of both friends and enemies alike in the Motorstorm: Pacific Rift demo which is due out this week for those who purchased the fourth installment of Sony's online gaming mag. Unfortunately, Qore number four isn't available on the PSN in other territories -- however, a recent news brief from unofficial PlayStation blog Three Speech hints that Europeans will receive the demo soon -- albeit in a fairly unconventional manner.Three Speech reports that random European PS3 owners will be receiving vouchers this coming Thursday via email which will allow them to download the Pacific Rift demo on PSN. We're not entirely sure why Sony decided upon this "Golden Ticket" approach for the demo's release -- sure, the hype built from all the exclusivity will likely pay off, but will all the disappointment felt by the unchosen really be worth it?

  • Play Qore Wars with latest issue of Qore

We honestly can't remember if this mini-game called Qore Wars has ever been in the previous issues of Qore, but we're still putting this out and letting you know that it exists. Like Death Orb, another mini-game found in Qore (which has been around since the first issue), Qore Wars can be accessed by hitting the shoulder triggers while on the main menu of the September issue. Tapping L2 brings you to Qore Wars -- an alien shooter; tapping R2 brings you to Death Orb -- a Pong-like game. Both games are short, five minute diversions that are fun for the weekend.[Thanks Roy F.!]

Purchasing this month's episode of Qore unlocks the door on the Motorstorm: Pacific Rim Rift demo when it actually releases on Sept. 11. It also includes an "exclusive" LittleBigPlanet theme. Beyond that, it's a relatively quiet week on the PSN, but it is worth checking out the Pure demo. The details about this week's PSN update can be found after the break. Those rugged stallions over at PS3 Fanboy have the details on this week's European update. Why "rugged stallions?" What happens at PAX, stays at PAX, friends.

It appears that the next episode of Sony's Qore digital magazine will feature the Motorstorm: Pacific Rift demo a month before it's free for all. That means $3 can secure you the demo, at least if you don't want the $25 annual Qore subscription, which will net you Calling All Cars as well. The fourth installment of Qore will also feature a LittleBigPlanet theme, Prince of Persia and BioShock ... yes, we wrote that just in case you somehow missed the same information in the picture above.[PS3 Fanboy]%Gallery-30178%

It looks like Qore has scored yet another exclusive for its upcoming issue. The PSN video magazine will cover games like LittleBigPlanet, Prince of Persia, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift and BioShock. However, more exciting are the Burger King-sponsored downloads. Qore purchasers will be able to get their hands on the MotorStorm demo a month before the general public, and they'll also get an exclusive LittleBigPlanet theme.Qore is available for $2.99 an issue, $24.99 for an annual subscription. Annual subscriptions include access to Calling All Cars.

Qore, blimey. What a large update. Oh wait, it's not actually that big, there are just a large amount of videos. Nothing tremenously exciting in terms of playable content, but a subscription to Qore will let you into the Resistance 2 beta (single issue purchase will grant late access). Don't forget to download the Home theme to get access to the beta. Here's the full release list:Playable Content Qore Episode 3 ($2.99 or $24.99 for a year's subscription) Add-on Content Snakeball "Team Mode" add on ($1.99) NASCAR 09 "Montreal" track ($3.99) NASCAR 09 Skin packs 1 - 3 (free) Guitar Hero III "Interscope" track pack ($6.25) Rock Band DLC (listed after the break)

It's time for Veronica Belmont to show us around the Qore again. Episode 3 covers DC Universe Online, Lego Batman and a couple other titles. As an added bonus, Qore annual subscribers will gain access to the Resistance 2 beta this month. Speaking of betas, downloading the Home theme in this week's update will sign you up for a chance to enter the Home beta. There's some other goodies to be found in the PSN update this week, but we're sure you're still enjoying that purchase of PixelJunk Eden from last week, right? RIGHT?! At least try the demo. The Trophy-addicts over at PS3 Fanboy have the details on this week's European update. Be sure to check out their Trophy portal while you're over there.

  • Qore Episode 3 detailed; Resistance 2 beta access in Sept.

If you're already an annual subscriber to the PlayStation Network's Qore "magazine" then you're undoubtedly already content with your purchase, having scored Calling All Cars, a beta invite to SOCOM: Confrontation (beta forthcoming), some interstitial advertising and, of course, two issues of interactive-y content. If you've been waiting to drop your virtual bucks on an annual subscription, today's installment should probably be on your radar because, as you undoubtedly remember, that subscription grants one access to the Resistance 2 beta program in September. Here's the bad news: That access to the SOCOM beta you've been waiting for ... well, it won't start until September 8th (incidentally a full week after it kicks off for those who pre-ordered). The Resistance 2 beta: also September (and also after those pesky pre-order folks). So what we're trying to say here is this: your September is probably going to be pretty busy playing multiplayer PlayStation 3 shooters that aren't out yet. Details regarding the upcoming SOCOM: Confrontation open beta have today been revealed on the official website. If you want to get involved, there are two ways to do so. Firstly, drop $5 on a pre-order at Gamestop. This not only rewards you with an access voucher, but also allows you to invite two friends into the game as well. The Gamestop beta will begin on September 1st and run until the end of the month. The other way of getting into the beta is to purchase the first episode of Qore. Doing so will allow you to download the beta client directly and play from September 8th until the 30th. This entire post is only relevant to Americans, though the official site does state that other territories will get acces and that this will be be announced by their representative SCE offices. • Sony answers some questions you may have about Qore

The third episode of Qore hits the PSN tomorrow and the PlayStation Blog has updated their site to let you know what's on it. While that's all well and good, they also take the time to answer several questions readers have had about the service. We thought we'd bring their answers to your attention. You can re-download Qore, but if you delete a particular episode and re-download it later, you won't be privy to time-sensitive content like exclusive demos and betas. As new episodes come out, they say they will not overwrite old episodes so you can keep them all individually. Just don't delete them if you're a collector. As for remote play, they are currently evaluating the PSP as a medium for viewing Qore -- we're sure piracy is some kind of an issue there. New annual subscribers may someday get access to older PSN titles are bonuses for signing up. Advertisers are allowed 15 seconds of advertisement per run of Qore, meaning you are forced to watch the ads once while the episode is active, but can skip it after that. We'll all get to enjoy the third episode tomorrow with the PS Store update.[Update: fixed a misinterpretation in the post. Sorry!]

  • Tomorrow's episode of Qore is jam packed full of fun

Can you believe Qore episode 3 is almost out? Doesn't time fly when you're having fun. The third episode brings with it more game stuff for you to look at with your eyes. This month focuses on DC Universe Online, NBA 09: The Inside, Lego Batman and Baja. Phew. Not only that, but buying an annual subscription will give you access to both Calling All Cars and the Resistance 2 beta which will be happening later this year. This isn't your only opportunity to get on the beta though. Community Manager Bryan Intihar has responded to queries on the PlayStation Blog to state that more details on the Resistance 2 demo will made available within the next few weeks. Also, you sneaky Europeans who think you can creep onto the beta through Qore are in for a shock; it won't work. But the beta will be made available to you at a later date. Again, more info coming later. Until then, kick back and relax with the latest ep of Qore and, with it, the latest build of Death Orb.

  • Qore's Veronica Belmont makes Playboy's list of hottest bloggers

Imagine how many more hits we would've gotten if we chose our alternate headline, "Qore's Veronica Belmont featured in Playboy." But, that would've been misleading. The host of PlayStation's monthly video magazine won't be posing nude in an upcoming issue. Rather, she's been (rightfully) recognized as one of the web's hottest bloggers. On that list includes Boing Boing's Xeni Jardin, Rocketboom's Amanda Congdon, and TV Squad's former Brigitte Dale. It's a hard act to balance being beautiful and being a nerd ... yet Belmont has succeeded. Congrats to her rather unusual (but nonetheless flattering) accolade.(Don't forget to check her out in "our very own episode of Qore.")[Thanks, Peter!]Editor's Note: We are linking to the official Playboy website. The content of the article is safe for work, but viewer discretion is still advised.

  • Resistance 2 beta in September for Qore subscribers, others [update]

PlayStation 3 owners who subscribe to Sony's "interactive magazine" Qore will be able to participate in Resistance 2's beta this September (via IGN). The details are sketchy at the moment -- we're going to guess you'll have to pay the $25 annual subscription fee and not just $3 for the related episode -- but the thought of 60-player team deathmatch has us frothing at the mouth. No beta details revealed yet for the Qore-less Europe.Update: Posting on myresistance.net, Insomniac Community Manager James Stevenson has clarified that "you will have many ways to get in" the beta. "The best way which will give you the earliest access to the beta will involve a pre-order program that should be announced soon," Stevenson writes. As for those of you residing outside of North America, don't worry, Insomniac has you covered ... somehow -- worldwide servers will be tested! [Thanks, Jay]

According to a recent PlayStation Underground e-mail, the next episode of Qore will feature access to the upcoming Resistance 2 multiplayer beta. Online is one of the key selling points of this hotly anticipated PS3 exclusive, with online battles that support up to 60 (!) players.Let's just hope that the beta available through Qore will arrive on a more timely manner than it has for SOCOM Confrontation (as of this writing, the SOCOM beta is still not available for those that purchased the first episode of Qore). Episode 3 of Qore will be available on August 7th. Update: The beta will be made available in September. Those that buy Episode 3, hold on to your download![Thanks, Brandon S.!]%Gallery-14695%

Unless the promise of spending time with our pal Ms. Veronica Belmont and another episode of Qore sounds like a nice Thursday night (there's an episode teaser after the break) it might be best to just ignore this week's PSN update. Per usual, the rhythm games add some content and there's also some game videos that might be of interest. With E3 only a couple weeks away, it's understandable that things are a bit quiet at the moment, but we're seriously starting to itch for PixelJunk Eden! This week's European PSN update adds several pieces of Buzz!-worthy content; check it out over at PS3 Fanboy.
