Apple has released Quicktime v7.0.4 via Software Update. Details are scarce and there is not yet a description page listed in Apple's downloads section. From the Software Update panel:QuickTime 7.0.4 is an important release that delivers numerous bug fixes, support for iLife '06, and H.264 performance improvements. We cried over a lack of native DivX support for Windows Media Extenders before Christmas but Santa must have read our post. Apparently we were good little HD boys and girls because Santa (in the form of Xbox.com forums) just gave us a little gift: a free conversion application! Videora's Xbox 360 Conversion software takes AVI, DivX, XviD, and QuickTime files and converts them to your choice of WMV, MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 format. We just grabbed a copy from Videora's website to give this a try, so there's more to follow. We're really intrigued by the $30 companion software that allows for "ITvCasting"; it appears that you can use RSS to subscribe to videos in WMV format and have them automatically downloaded to your WMCE PC for streaming on the 360. Thanks Santa!

These folks just never stop pumping out the high-definition trailers, do they? Maybe we need a weekly round-up post just to highlight the newest HD trailers from Apple. Should we call it Trailer Tuesday?Anyway, get the Drain-O out to clean your bandwidth pipes and head over to Apple's QuickTime site to suck down some 720p and 1080p trailers. The latest and greatest include: V for Vendetta Wolf Creek Over the Hedge Just for fun over the holidays, I'll try to see if these can be re-encoded in a format that Windows Media Center can digest for streaming to Windows Media Extender. Unless it works natively of course; any takers on a bet that it doesn't?

  • Quicktime 7 full screen controls are draggable

Stop me if you've heard this one, but I think a new feature of Quicktime 7 Pro is that the player control palette in a movie played at full screen is draggable. I think I remember trying this on previous Quicktime players, including Quicktime 6 Pro, with no luck. It's a trivial thing, but it's kind of handy to get these controls out of the way which - in my opinion - they should be anyways. I appreciate movie player controls that can get out of the way of the movie I'm watching.Since both of my machines now run Tiger and Quicktime 7 Pro, can anyone else confirm whether or not this is a Quicktime 7 or Pro-only thing?

  • Fix Quicktime issue in Tiger

I've had this trouble with Quicktime and Safari since I installed Tiger. Often, when trying to view a Quicktime movie on a webpage (not all the time, but just enough to make me wonder what was going on), I'd get the icon at right. Usually, opening the same URL in Firefox would resolve the issue. That is to say, the movie played just fine in Firefox. I found this kind of frustrating, but not enough to try and work out an answer. Luckily, Mr. Barrett did the hard part for me. To solve this problem in most cases, he writes, follow these four steps: First, Quit Safari. Next, navigate to /Library/Internet Plug-ins/. Then, find the file called QuickTime Plugin.webplugin and move it to the desktop (or delete it if you're confident). Finally, re-launch Safari and return to the troublesome URL. The movie should now play as expected. Worked for me! Thanks, Mr. Barrett![Via Mr. Barret.com]
