Game Infowire has posted 51(!) new shots of Rainbow Six: Vegas. Most of our readers already know this, but R6: Vegas is insanely detailed. Seriously, Ubisoft must have hired an obsessive compulsive crazy person to get all this detail in there. Right down to the fabric of the uniforms, everything is gorgeously textured. It reminds us why Ubisoft is the "not evil" EA. We suggest you click your way through all of these screens from start to finish -- it always goes down smooth. With games like R6: Vegas in tow, this holiday season is looking to be damned expensive for 360 owners.[Via OpenXBOX360]

The Xbox 360 Fanboys have been having a lot of fun talking about their beloved Rainbow Six: Vegas ever since E3 this year. Well, it looks like we join in on the party. While the game certainly won't look as graphically marvelous as the Xbox 360 version, the portable version seems to be filled with features that'll (hopefully) make it worthwhile. The PSP version will get its own parallel story, and will feature single and multiplayer (Infrastructure!) gameplay. The PSP version will also have a "Terrorist Hunt" mode which is a Duck Hunt modification mode where players start at different points in a single player map and kill terrorists one-by-one.The game will stealthily launch on the system in November. Crazy, huh?[Via IGN]

Ubisoft released this video of Rainbow Six: Vegas producer, Alexandre Parizeau, discussing some of the features in the game. The tactical options -- rappelling through windows? Hell, yeah -- sound like lots of fun. Of particular interest is the game's intended sense of tension. The events unfold over a single day, giving players a real sense of urgency. Looks pretty nice, but will it stand out among the 360's growing library of shooters?

We're pleased to report that Rainbow Six is back on track. Lockdown was a huge disappointment, but Ubisoft Montreal lead game designer Jean-Pascal Cambiotti has pledged to bring the series back to its "core values," meaning tactics.Rainbow Six Vegas was running off of an Xbox 360 dev kit and being played by a developer. We caught a glimpse of the new snake cam, which can be inserted under doorways to assess what lies within. Using the camera, players can tag enemies within the room, in effect, giving your two teammates targets to attack upon entry. This is all part of an improved tactical interface, which oozes smart action. You bust through one door, your teammates through another. You've already given them their targets, all you need to worry about is yours. A few calculated bursts from your rifle, a few more from your teammates, and when the smoke clears, you've got a pile of dead evildoers and a handful of lucky hostages.

  • Rainbow Six: Vegas screens have Vegas glow

Rainbow Six: Vegas was "officially" announced today--although everyone knew about it last week. Along with the announcement comes some fancy screenshots, courtesy of Xboxyde. A couple thoughts on the screenshots:  I don't trust screenshots, for two main reasons. Games invariably look better in motion and rarely look as good as early screenshots. So it's a lose-lose situation. If they do show them in motion, and they look that good, they're probably CGI (see Killzone 2 trailer). The videos of Ubisoft's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter and the screenshots of Splinter Cell: Double Agent have convinced me that Ubisoft is capable of walking their talk, as it were. This bodes well for the validity of these screens. Get ready to shove more cash into Tom Clancy's bulging pockets this fall.
