The once-delayed PlayStation Vita version of Insomniac's hybrid tower defense-action game Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault will launch next week as a downloadable PlayStation Network title in North America and Europe. Full Frontal Assault was originally released as a retail and downloadable PlayStation 3 title back in November, boasting cross-play features with a Vita edition that was subsequently hit with a series of delays. Buyers of the retail version of Full Frontal Assault – and its renamed European counterpart Ratchet & Clank: QForce – will be able to download the Vita edition for free starting May 21 in North America and May 22 in Europe by accessing the game's "Disc Benefits" option. Those who purchased Full Frontal Assault's retail edition will also receive an additional bonus after redeeming the PS Vita version when it launches next week. Ratchet Deadlocked HD, an Idol Minds-developed PlayStation 3 port of the fourth PS2 entry in the Ratchet & Clank series, will be available as a free download for Full Frontal Assault buyers when it launches in the PlayStation Store. A release date for Deadlocked HD (also known as Ratchet: Gladiator in Europe) has not been announced.

To make amends for the latest delay of Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault (known as QForce in PAL territories) for Vita, Sony will provide a second free game for those who purchased the PS3 version. The European PlayStation Blog notes those who purchased the PS3 version of the game, which was supposed to launch with cross-play for Vita, will also receive MotorStorm RC at no extra charge.Europeans who purchased QForce on PS3 will receive a download voucher for MotorStorm RC by email before February concludes. The voucher is valid for 60 days. The free game is in addition to Ratchet: Deadlocked (PAL: Ratchet: Gladiator), which will also be a free download with the purchase of QForce, but there's currently no announced release date for that game. Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault for Vita currently has a "spring" release window.

Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault is now slated to drop in spring 2013, after missing its most recent release window of January 2013. Full Frontal Assault was originally scheduled to launch with Cross Buy for PSN and Vita on November 27, and though the PS3 version made it out Vita needs some more work, SCEA producer Greg Phillips writes."Our friends at Tin Giant have been working night and day to bring Insomniac's PS3 game to the PS Vita system and to provide our fans with a great game," Phillips says. "While the original delay has helped us make the game better, we still need more time to bring the game up to the standards expected by our fans."To compensate, Sony will offer a free download of Ratchet and Clank: Deadlocked on PS3 for everyone who owns the PS3 version of Full Frontal Assault, on the day that game hits Vita. Keep the faith, full frontal assaulters.

Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault won't be available on Vita until January 2013, but the PS3 version is still locked and loaded for November 27 for $20. Full Frontal Assault was originally intended to launch with cross-buy support across the hardware platforms. As a "reward" for customers' patience, Sony will release the "Mini-Boss Skin Pack" as free downloadable content on PS3. It contains three boss character skins from past Ratchet & Clank games (pictured above).

Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault will bare all on PSN November 27 for $19.99. The "fun size" adventure, which is similar in scope to Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty, is said to actually have more junk in the trunk than the previous bite-size experiment, according to the PlayStation Blog. It will also be released at retail for the same price. The Ratchet & Clank Collection, HD updates of the first three PS2 games, launched in late August to celebrate the series' 10th Anniversary, occurring next month. We should also probably note that, in case you never played them, the full-blown Ratchet and Clank PS3 adventures, Tools of Destruction and Crack in Time, are both available at retail for about the same price as this amuse-bouche.

The next Ratchet & Clank – Full Frontal Assualt – isn't just the usual third-person platforming and shooting affair we're all so used to from Insomniac Games. Well ... it still has all that stuff, it's just also got a thorough base defense aspect the developer is hoping you'll beta test ahead of Full Frontal Assault's "fall" launch. That beta, as it turns out, is going on right now (through next week). We've got some codes for you going out on our Twitter feed, and we've also got a link to this handy site where you can procure your own, should your hands not be speedy enough to catch a code otherwise.Oh, also, the image above is full of codes that totally work (albeit for probably a super limited time). So there's that.

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault brings us back to a simpler time where we could giggle at the subtitles used for Insomniac's platformer franchise. Okay, well, Quest for Booty was pretty good too ... but none of the trailers for that game were as dramatic as the one above!

The official PlayStation blog has some new info on the upcoming Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault. While the game is returning to more core R&C gameplay, Captain Qwark will still be available as a playable character throughout. The PSN game will contain five different levels across three planets, along with an online mode to be announced later, and lots of unlockable content including character skins and weapon upgrades. There's also a new feature in the gameplay that Insomniac describes as "tower defense," which "will have you building and defending a base against invasions using your ultimate Ratchet & Clank arsenal." That's all we've got for now, but presumably you'll be building or placing towers as you play, defending against invading waves of enemies. We'll hear more about Full Frontal Assault before the end of the year.

Ratchet & Clank are heading once more into the space breach, this time waging a "Full Frontal Assault" against space crabs with gatling guns, it seems. Insomniac head (and general nice dude) Ted Price took to the US PlayStation Blog this afternoon to announce "Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault" for PlayStation Network, alongside plans to launch the game "this holiday season."Aside from the artwork you see above and the logo we've dropped in the gallery below, Price offered few details on the game. He said it'll be a "fun-sized" R&C title (like Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty before it), and that the game will return to "the series' classic feel, camera, controls, and weapons, while innovating and giving you a whole new way to play." What that means is another question altogether. Price also said that the game will feature online co-op, but kept details similarly slim.%Gallery-156436%
