  • 'Drive' composer Cliff Martinez mentions work on Far Cry 4

Far Cry 4 has apparently been outed by Cliff Martinez, composer for the film Drive and former Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer. Martinez said he is "working on a video game called Far Cry 4" in an interview with Lost in the Multiplex. The quote has since been deleted, but can still be viewed through a cached version of the page, which we've included in a screenshot above. While Ubisoft hasn't announced Far Cry 4 yet, it said in July that the game is "clearly going to happen." It must have been waiting for a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee to make the announcement. We've reached out to Ubisoft and will update as we learn more.

Rock Band 3 is still alive and kicking, despite everything happening behind-the-scenes, and in an effort to rekindle the world's love for rhythm games and plastic instruments, Mad Catz Interactive has released 5 new instrument bundles for the Xbox 360. Each bundle includes the game, a DLC code for 5 different Red Hot Chili Peppers songs, and your choice of Fender Mustang Pro-Guitar ($150), normal Stratocaster controller($70), or normal Precision Bass controller ($80, available in three designer colors). Absent from these bundles, as you may have noticed, are the microphone and drum kit controllers known and loved by annoying college roommates the world over; a void the used market will undoubtably step in to fill.

  • Apple streams entire Red Hot Chili Peppers album in iTunes

The iTunes Music Store has achieved another first (for the iTunes Music Store): streaming a full album to listeners. Beginning yesterday, users can stream Red Hot Chili Peppers' new album I'm With You in its entirety for free. The album doesn't go on sale until August 30th, but one song is available for sale now and users can also pre-order the entire album. It's cool that Apple (and the Red Hot Chili Peppers) are allowing users to stream the album in full, but as I write this I can see why Apple might not think iTunes music streaming is ready for prime time. I'm getting a ton of buffering errors. That of course could be due to everyone trying to stream the only album you can from iTunes. Also the stream is one long stream of the entire album -- you can't skips around to individual songs, which is kind of limiting. But then again, it is free music. No word on how long the stream will be up, but it's reasonable to assume that it will be taken down once the album goes on sale on August 30th.

Another week, another bundle of Rock Band DLC oldies for the Wii, which according to the press release should be available now.Individual Tracks (200 Wii points apiece) "Attack" - 30 Seconds to Mars "Gimme Three Steps" - Lynrd Skynrd "Live Forever" - Oasis "Just What I needed" - The Cars "Siva" - Smashing Pumpkins "Tell Me Baby" - Red Hot Chili Peppers Fun fact: the Rock Band series has about 559 songs. At this point, Wii owners have access to 212 of them, leaving 347 songs to go. At 6 songs per week -- not counting any future DLC -- we should see Wii owners catch up to everyone else some time before mid-2010.

The Red Hot Chili Pepper's acclaimed Blood Sugar Sex Magik album, featuring at least one thinly veiled junkie ballad you memorized during adolescence, will arrive in the Rock Band Store next week. Let's hope it shows a bit more professionalism than the last full album to crash the living room stage! Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1600 / $20)* or by individual track (160 / $2): "The Power of Equality" "If You Have to Ask" "Breaking the Girl" "Funky Monks" "Suck My Kiss" "I Could Have Lied" "Mellowship Slinky in B Major" "The Righteous & The Wicked" "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" "Under the Bridge" "Naked in the Rain" "Apache Rose Peacock" "The Greeting Song My" "Lovely Man Sir" "Psycho Sexy" "They're Red Hot" *Album excludes "Give It Away" (available on Rock Band 2 disc).A karaoke-style video for each song can be found after the break (so go practice!). The tracks will be available for purchase on Tuesday, September 30th on Xbox 360, and Thursday, October 2nd on PlayStation 3.

For all of you Rock Band enthusiasts out there, some news has traveled down the pipe courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, confirming several new albums for download in the game. We're not going to waste any time leading up to the juicy info, so catch it below: Foo Fighters -- "The Colour and the Shape" Red Hot Chili Peppers -- "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" Jane's Addiction -- "Nothing's Shocking" Megadeth -- "Peace Sells... But Who's Buying" Stevie Ray Vaughn -- "Texas Flood" Of course, we're still not 100% certain that the Wii version of the game will support all of the features the other console versions will. Regardless, we're very much Megadeth fans, so seeing them get their work featured in the game is great (and it's one of their best albums, at that). After the break, we've embedded our favorite track from that album, so jump past and enjoy.%Gallery-19119%

There will be no track pack released from Rock Band this week, rather, you can download two songs each from Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rush. Each will be $1.99: "Snow (Hey Oh)" -- Red Hot Chili Peppers "Tell Me Baby" -- Red Hot Chili Peppers "Closer to the Heart" -- Rush "Working Man (Vault Edition)" -- Rush Though the cover version of Working Man has already been released, this is the original master track and a never-before-released alternate take from a recording session that produced the 1974 original. Update: Harmonix has deemed this a hoax, nothing to see here. Website GCN apparently captured a photo of an ad on the Xbox 360 dashboard promoting a Red Hot Chili Peppers DLC pack for Rock Band coming Feb. 18. The site also allegedly received an "announcement letter" with the following info.Red Hot Chili Peppers Pack (440 MS points/ $5.50) Under the Bridge (160 MS points/ $2) Universally Speaking (160 MS points/ $2) Otherside (160 MS Points / $2) It seems the new sport for the internets is to break Rock Band DLC release info as soon as possible. We've been unable to produce the ad on our consoles, but if any readers are able to get it on theirs, please feel free to share with us a nice quality photo.[Thanks to XanthouS]

  • Win Guitar Hero II, 'graphed by Dave Navarro

So, maybe the hardcore Guitar Hero thrashers that queued up at the LA Best Buy Monday night didn't care if it was Dave Navarro or Trogdor pimping the sequel to the hit rockstar simulator (groupies and crippling drug addiction not included). But that didn't stop us from getting him to autograph a guitar (and box), along with some Guitar Hero II posters.Of course, we're going to give everything away to a handful of lucky readers. The rules are simple Record a video of yourself playing Guitar Hero 1 (pizza suit optional) Upload that video to Netscape with the tag "GH2contest" Double check to make sure you tagged it right ... otherwise, no prize for you! Vote on your favorite entries, conveniently compiled at Netscape.com/tag/gh2contest We'll give the autographed guitar and game to the entry with the most votes, while the two runners-up will each get a t-shirt and autographed poster So, those are the entry rules ... but what about the fine print? Pretty simple: the contest will be open for three weeks, so you've got some time to get something together; you need to be a US resident (or at least know someone in the US who can receive your prize for you); and you need to own the video content you upload, you can't just submit something you found on the net.

  • iTunes Chili Peppers promo angers some fans

Ok, everyone just settle down. A couple of weeks ago, the iTunes Music Store offered a deal to fans of the Red Hot Chili Peppers: Pre-order the new album [iTunes link], and receive a special code that would grant you access to a special Ticketmaster pre-sale for the upcoming tour. The codes were scheduled to be distributed yesterday, May 9 (tickets go on sale to the general public on the 13th), but so far many customers haven't heard a peep from Apple. Call me an optimist, but I'm sure everything will be OK. I know it stinks on ice when it seems you aren't getting what you've been promised, but you've still got three days before John Q. Public can get his mitts on your tickets. Patience, grasshopper.Of course, if the 13th comes and goes and leaves you ticket-less, then all bets are off. Thanks, Adam.

It's great to see that when the Peppers (finally) decide to commit to something, they really dive in: iLounge is reporting that on May 2nd at 6:30 pm local time, Apple Stores in the U.S., Canada and UK will hold listening parties for the band's new album, Stadium Arcadium, set to land on May 9th. The stores will play all 28 songs from the new album and will be giving away a limited number of iTunes cards so fans can download the new single, "Dani California" (iTMS link). Let's also not forget that pre-ordering the new album enters you into a contest for a logo-engraved, 60 GB Chili Peppers iPod, and gives you access to a Ticketmaster pre-sale for the band's North American tour.

You may remember the Red Hot Chili Peppers as being among those who were quite opposed to the sale of downloadable music. A couple of weeks ago, I was surprised to see some of their music in the iTunes Music Store. This week, the surprises continue: Not only has some exclusive Peppers music been added, but there's an exclusive Ticketmaster pre-sale going on, an album pre-order, an exclusive video and booklet and a contest giving away the band's entire catalog plus a limited edition Chili Peppers iPod [iTunes link]. Whew. If you're a Chili Peppers fan, check this one out.

Do you remember when Napster was huge (about ten years ago), and digital file sharing was on everyone's minds? Metallica and The Red Hot Chili Peppers were sort of leading the anti-p2p charge. Several years later, when the iTunes Music Store demonstrated that the online distribution of music could be accomplished successfully, the Peppers refused to participate, stating that (among other things), they didn't like that customers were able to purchase individual tracks, as it interrupted the flow of the album, or some other artsy thing like that.Anyway, this is why I was very surprised to find nine Peppers albums in the iTMS this morning [iTunes link], including some exclusive stuff and videos. I'm glad you guys have come around.
