Early Apple TV+ reviews show a lineup lacking hits
With Apple TV+ set to launch this Friday, initial reviews for the original shows that will premiere alongside the platform have come out. And it's probably safe to say Apple won't be happy with how things have turned out so far.
Apple finally releases a trailer for 'The Morning Show'
After years of build-up and a cryptic teaser, Apple is ready to offer an honest-to-goodness trailer for its flagship TV+ series The Morning Show -- and it's clear that power struggles will take center stage. The streaming-only drama stars Jennifer Aniston as a veteran morning show anchor who starts by delivering news of her co-host's (Steve Carell) sudden firing over mysterious allegations, but it soon becomes clear that not everything is as it seems. Carell says Aniston is "throwing me under the bus," for a start -- and then there's the introduction of Reese Witherspoon, who plays a field reporter destined to shake up the power structure at the fictional show.
Reese Witherspoon to star in Netflix sci-fi film ‘Pyros’
Netflix has landed the rights to a new sci-fi film that will star Reese Witherspoon. The streaming provider announced today that the Big Little Lies star will star in Pyros, a film adaptation of a short story by Thomas Pierce. It will undoubtedly be a busy year for Witherspoon, who is already working on The Morning Show, a new scripted series for Apple TV+.
Apple's 'The Morning Show' teaser reveals drama behind the camera
Apple is finally ready to offer a peek at its TV+ tentpole series The Morning Show... if only a brief one. The tech giant has released a teaser trailer that doesn't reveal any actual scenes, but makes it patently clear that there will be a lot of tension beyond the superficial pleasantness of the show-within-a-show. The characters played by Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell and Reese Witherspoon all talk about wanting honesty. However, there's an undeniable power struggle at work -- don't expect them to find peace any time soon.
Apple won't offer a Netflix-like quantity of TV shows
Apple has hinted that its TV+ service will focus more on a handful of top-tier shows than a Netflix-style deluge, but now that's considerably more explicit. Senior VP Eddy Cue told the Sunday Times in an interview that Apple "won't create the most" shows, and is instead interested in making the "best." He didn't think Netflix's emphasis on quantity was bad, but it was "not our model."
Breakfast Topic: Casting the WoW movie
I have to admit, this one caught me by surprise, but with the continuing fashion of adding "murloc" into every possible movie title available (this is especially funny with James Bond films, IMO -- "The Murloc who Loved Me", "Live and Let Murloc" but I digress...) I suppose it was the next progression of silly things to overhear in /guildchat, or in the /trade channel late at night. As rumors of the WoW movie travel around, people are talking about who would be the perfect casting choices for the various characters that they might present if they're touching upon the lore in World of Warcraft. As you can see from the image above, one of the people I heard suggested was Reese Witherspoon, cast as the powerful but somehwat naive Jaina Proudmoore. I've heard a lot of other interesting choices, but rather than bogging down this post with the ones I overheard, I figured I'd toss this one out and see what you all thought. If they do a live-action film based on the Warcraft universe, who would you pick for the roles, and why? For that matter, what race and class do you think some of your favorite stars would be if they were cast -- but just as non-lore characters? (And a bonus cookie* if you can name -- and justify -- which star would make the best murloc!)*cookie available in .jpg format only. The real one will be eaten in your honor, if that helps any.
