Gun-toting xenophobes, rejoice! Sony has confirmed that Resistance 2, much like all games ever, will have its North American release in the alarmingly crowded month of November -- the 4th, to be exact. Insomniac's ambitious first-person shooter will also arrive in the company of a fancy, $79.99 collector's edition, complete with the usual making-of videos, art books and snarling statuettes. If you're the impatient type who simply can't wait to take some shots with at a digital Chimera, you'll be pleased to note that Sony has a multiplayer and co-operative public beta planned for early October. To gain "guaranteed access," you'll either have to pre-order Resistance 2 at Gamestop, purchase an annual subscription to the PSN's interactive magazine Qore, or simply purchase Qore Episode 3. There's a free option too -- register here -- but it does not guarantee entry to the beta. %Gallery-14773%

Looks like Project Abraham, getawarjob and America First America Only, three of the four Resistance 2 ARG sites, have been met their ends. There is nothing left on getawarjob, while Project Abraham left us a few clues. A letter in the inbox shows the Project has been stopped and moved from Alaska to Bryce Canyon facility, as well as an end letter from Dr. Aklin summarizing the work she has done. The last test subject, Kenneth Danby, was apparently released as well.At America First America Only, a letter declaring "They've been on to us!" has been left behind. They are moving "further underground" and the last issue of their news letter, volume 7, is hidden away in their archives. The only site remaining is SrpaNet, but we haven't had any luck figuring out the new login. Is the Resistance 2 ARG over until the release of the game in a couple of months? Or will there be more? Luckily for us, there is a Resistance wiki over at Wikia, and almost all the documents on the site can be reviewed there. Check it out.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

  • Resistance 2 Collector's Edition to be simply irresistible

Do you feel confident in saying that you despise the chimera more than anyone else that you know? To be more specific, would you say you hate them twenty dollars more? You can prove your disdain for those yellow-eyed jerks by picking up the collector's edition for Resistance 2, recently unveiled by Amazon.com, which is quickly becoming one of the most comprehensive (if not somewhat unlikely) sources for video game news. Seriously. We're worried.Included in the bundle (which, for the mathematically challenged, is currently priced at $79.99) is a behind-the-scenes making-of documentary, video commentary from the game's developers, a "Twisted History" chronology video, an exclusive multiplayer character skin, a double-sided art book, and a preview of the heretofore unannounced Gathering Storm novel, which is based on the game. There's also a five and a half inch tall Chimera Hybrid action figure which, due to your unreasonable chimeric hatred, you'll probably just end up microwaving in effigy.[Via PS3 Fanboy]

So you've probably already voted for your favorite Resistance 2 Collector's Edition boxart (if not, you've probably missed the boat), but until now we've had no idea what the CE will actually contain. Enter, Amazon.com, stage left. If these details are to be believed (and they're a little too specific to be doubted, at this point) then the Resistance 2 special edition will be well worth the price for any fan of the franchise. The price, which is probably the most likely detail of the bunch to be changed down the line, is set at $79.99. For this, you'll get a bonus DVD with a behind the scenes documentary, video commentary by Insomniac and a "Twisted History" chronology video. You'll also nab yourself an exclusive multiplayer character skin, a double-sided Resistance art book and a sneak peek at the upcoming Resistance novel, "The Gathering Storm." Wait, there's an upcoming Resistance novel? Finally, the package is rounded out with a five and a half inch tall Chimera Hybrid action figure. With a Bullseye, naturally. That's quite a lot of swag, but is it worth the extra 30 dollars? Sorry, we couldn't hear your response to that question, we're too busy preording the Resistance 2 Collector's Edition.[Via MyResistance.net, thanks Zoibie]

Download to PSP Ever wondered what an alien invasion of America would sound like ... in Japanese? Good, because this will hit the spot. This new trailer from PlayStation Japan highlights many of the epic battles that we've come to associate with the upcoming PS3-exclusive FPS. The game looks better with every new trailer they release, and this is no different. While this may tantalize our senses, we wonder how many Japanese (who usually dislike FPS games) will actually pay attention to this upcoming game. %Gallery-14695%

  • Frank Gennaro performs self-surgery for Project Abraham

    08.27.2008

The gambling addict and family man Frank Gennaro was injected this week on the Resistance 2 ARG site Project Abraham -- and the results ain't pretty. Word of warning: the injection video involves self-mutilation and is extremely graphic, even compared to previous Project Abraham videos. In other developments, Nathan Hale has awaken from his coma and according to his dossier, "seems like a new person ... It's almost as if the injection made him stronger." There's also no voting this week, since Danby is the only one remaining. Stay tuned next week to see what happens after all the subjects have been tested.

Video games have given so much to you, isn't it time you do your civic duty and give back? IGN is providing the perfect opportunity allowing you, the public, to vote on the cover art for the Resistance 2 Collector's Edition. OK, so it's not exactly Obama/McCain, but you work with what you've got.IGN says that Insomniac is offering the choice to fans because "the studio can't seem to make up its mind," which is insulting to your intelligence, but probably not so insulting that you should avoid the vote all together. After all, it's not just a right, it's a responsibility.%Gallery-30495%

  • Vote for your favorite Resistance 2 LE cover at IGN

    08.26.2008

Video game cover art usually comes in two flavors: "awesome" and "please put the box face-down and never show that to me again." Insomniac is looking for your help to make sure Resistance 2's box art belongs squarely in the first category, by asking you to vote on your favorite cover art over at IGN. More specifically, this is to vote for the Collector's Edition which, let's be honest here, the majority of you will be picking up on launch day. Of the three images, only one stands out to us as the clear winner (we wonder if you can guess which one ...), but maybe you have different ideas. Let us know which one you've picked in the comments after you've cast your vote. Just head on over to IGN and click the correct link at the bottom to email the correct vote. Also, notice the "Only on PlayStation" and "PlayStation Network" logo at the top. Looks pretty nice, if you ask us. We're looking forward to seeing these logos printed at the top of many more PS3 games in the future.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

  • Nathan Hale injected on Project Abraham

Resistance series hero, Nathan Hale, was injected this week on Project Abraham. Truth be told, this week's video wasn't as exciting as previous attempts, simply because we all knew Hale wasn't going to have his guts spilled on the floor like the others. So what did happen to him? Well, he's now in a coma. You can see the clip here. Adding on to that, several new documents on Hale's dossier page have appeared. That includes lab results and notes from Dr. Aklin about the progress of the vaccine and Hale's current condition. There are only two soldiers left to stick needles in: Captain Frank Gennaro and Lieutenant Kenneth Danby. What's going to happen to them? Will their results save Hale from comatose? Are they getting closer to a cure?[Thanks Vivas K.!]

The closed beta for Resistance 2 is currently going on, and while you're here reading, someone else out there is saving America from a Chimera invasion. Luckily, you don't have to miss out on all the fun. While you wait for the public beta coming this September, you can check out eight minutes of gameplay footage right now; albeit, extremely blurry and unflattering footage. The level in the vid looks like the same outdoor woodland area you've seen in screenshots before. It may be difficult to see the little details due to the low quality, but one thing is for certain: Resistance 2's mulitplayer mode, overall, looks like pure carnage.[Thanks Zee]

While not yet open to all those Qore subscribers, a select group of PlayStation Underground members have been sent invitations to the Resistance 2 private beta test. To find out if you're in, check the email linked to your PSN account or hit up the Resistance 2 beta page and try to log in with your PSN name under the Beta Info tag. If you're a member of the PlayStation Underground, you might have been selected to join an early private beta for Resistance 2, which -- as we've been told -- many lucky gamers have already downloaded and are currently playing. However, this doesn't mean that everyone who had plans to join the beta can get in at this time.If your golden ticket is through Qore, you won't be able to join the fight. It looks like you'll still have to wait for the scheduled "late September" date which is for the open beta. In the meantime, you can distract yourself with this new Resistance 2 site. Just don't click on "Beta Info" -- it'll just remind you that you can't get in.[Thanks Jonathan C.!]

  • Khaner dies for love in latest Resistance 2 viral video

    08.12.2008

Glenn Khaner, who was chosen for this week's injection on the Resistance 2 ARG website Project Abraham, dies a rather horrific death in the latest video. What is different about Khaner death is that it really tugs at your heartstrings; if you examine his dossier, it shows a transcribed conversation he had with Nathan Hale where Khaner admits he intentionally failed a placement exam in order to be sent to Alaska. Now, if you listen to Dr. Aklin's recordings, she alludes to a past relationship she had with Glenn where she "broke his heart" and talks about the guilt she currently feels as she is falling in love with Hale. It is at this point one realizes Khaner entered into Project Abraham just so he could be in the proximity of Alkin. Hale's induction video is now viewable and he is one of the candidates for injection. Currently, 76% of votes currently going to him. Who are you voting for this week? America First America Only's weekly newsletter uncovers more alleged secret government plans: the abandonment of US coastlines in the event of an invasion. Schematics of a fortress the government intents on sending people to in the case of an attack are presented to us. Accusations of brainwashing TV signals, as well a list of people who sent in tips last week can be seen on the back of the newsletter. Check it out here. [Thanks, Chunky and DeforMAKulizer!]

  • Confused by the Resistance 2 ARG? Infinite Bits has you covered

We've been trying to keep you as up to date with the Resistance 2 ARG as possible, but those of you who are new to the whole thing may still be understandably confused. Infinite Bits has a great article about how the ARG (Alternate Reality Game) has gone so far and how that links in to both Resistance 1 and its sequel. Sure, there's some conjecture involved, but it sounds pretty convincing to us! ARGs are a great marketing tool, if done right, and it's rumored that the company behind this one is the best in the business. You may know 4orty 2wo from I Love Bees, The Beast and Last Call Poker, three of the biggest ARGs so far (with The Beast being widely considered to be the first of its kind). So don't be afraid to get involved in Dr. Aklin's tale. But please, suspend disbelief before taking part. It's way more fun that way.

It's time for Veronica Belmont to show us around the Qore again. Episode 3 covers DC Universe Online, Lego Batman and a couple other titles. As an added bonus, Qore annual subscribers will gain access to the Resistance 2 beta this month. Speaking of betas, downloading the Home theme in this week's update will sign you up for a chance to enter the Home beta. There's some other goodies to be found in the PSN update this week, but we're sure you're still enjoying that purchase of PixelJunk Eden from last week, right? RIGHT?! At least try the demo. The Trophy-addicts over at PS3 Fanboy have the details on this week's European update. Be sure to check out their Trophy portal while you're over there.

If you're already an annual subscriber to the PlayStation Network's Qore "magazine" then you're undoubtedly already content with your purchase, having scored Calling All Cars, a beta invite to SOCOM: Confrontation (beta forthcoming), some interstitial advertising and, of course, two issues of interactive-y content. If you've been waiting to drop your virtual bucks on an annual subscription, today's installment should probably be on your radar because, as you undoubtedly remember, that subscription grants one access to the Resistance 2 beta program in September. Here's the bad news: That access to the SOCOM beta you've been waiting for ... well, it won't start until September 8th (incidentally a full week after it kicks off for those who pre-ordered). The Resistance 2 beta: also September (and also after those pesky pre-order folks). So what we're trying to say here is this: your September is probably going to be pretty busy playing multiplayer PlayStation 3 shooters that aren't out yet. For more details on this month's episode of Qore, hit up that Source link or watch the trailer after the break.%Gallery-14773%

  • Surprise! No injections on Project Abraham this week

    08.06.2008

No injection took place on the Resistance 2 viral site, Project Abraham, this week. We are guessing the man who claimed he knew no fear met his match. Though no injection took place, Oster's video still contains violence and should be considered NSFW. Oster's dossier has also been updated to reflect his new status -- including a file number, which you can type into SrpaNet as "GET 938Stockmeyer773" to view a confrontation he had with our protagonist from the previous game. Dr. Alkin's inbox update included a Rorshchach inkblot test, along with a recommendation that Glenn Khaner be the next test subject.America First America Only apparently received some tips from those of us who "hacked" into SrpaNet and published pictures of Chimeras and Cloven in their news weekly. The second page suggests that these "aliens" are from a watery planet; can that planet possibly be Earth itself? Lastly, those of you who left your number with Project Abraham last week received a call. We missed ours, but thanks to NeoGAF, we have a partial recording of the phone call for you to listen to right here.[Thanks, DeforMAKulizer and Dave!]
