Sometimes adjustments seem like a good idea right up until they're implemented. That's the case with Dark Age of Camelot's recent changes to New Frontiers. The game's most recent producer's letter states that they were made and quickly proved to not have the desired effects, which means that several elements need to be tweaked and re-balanced. This includes several rollbacks -- Relics will return to Relic Temples, docks will be returned to their original location, and players will no longer be able to port to shore-keeps. The updates to the game in the near future won't be limited to PvP, however, as the development team is also looking for ways to spruce up PvE content by modernizing mechanics and adding in new loot. In the longer term, there are also plans to revamp the game's LFG interface and provide a Champion Level increase. Check out the full producer's letter for all the details.

  • Marvel Heroes patch 1.11 breaks game, reverts back

Marvel Heroes was proud to roll out patch 1.11 last night, and the playerbase was proud to receive it. There was only one problem: It didn't work. Gazillion couldn't get the game up and running for everyone, and after several hours of outages, the team decided to create a new patch to revert the game back to a pre-1.11 state. CM Stephen Reid explained the studio's response: "After an evening of working to see if there was a quick solution to the issues we encountered when we brought up game update 1.11 tonight, we've decided to go with 'Plan B:' deploying a patch that essentially 'reverts' the live game to its pre-game update 1.11 state. This is safer and will allow the game to be up and for you to play in the live environment while we diagnose, fix, text, and redeploy game update 1.11." Patch 1.11 contained the Human Torch playable character as well as the new eternity shards system. Gazillion assures players that if they managed to log in last night and purchase the Human Torch, it will be safe and sound when 1.11 returns.

Longer combos (and subsequently, higher scores and bigger disappointments) are likely taking place on a virtual skate-park near you, as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD's Revert Pack has successfully landed all four of its polymer wheels on XBLA and PSN.PC proponents of preposterous push-board performances can expect the DLC to hit Steam "within a couple days," an Activision representative has informed us. Right now though, console kickers can get the download's three Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 levels for 400 MS Points/$4.99. All users, however, will receive the eponymous "revert" ability as a free system update, which allows for combo continuation by linking ground and vertical tricks.%Gallery-172816%

Xbox Live's Major Nelson has released the list of content coming to Xbox Live over the next few weeks. It all kicks off today with a trip of Sega fighters launching on Xbox Live Arcade: Virtua Fighter 2, Sonic the Fighters and Fighting Vipers. You can take your pick at 400 MS Points ($5) each, half the initial asking price. Guardians of Middle Earth will make its trek to Xbox Live Arcade on December 5. The Revert DLC for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD also drops in on December 5 for 400 MS Points ($5). Finally, that week will also see the debut of Skyrim's second DLC pack on Xbox Live, the 1600 MS Point ($20) Dragonborn expansion on December 4. On the savings front, this week's Deal of the Week revolves around GTA IV – the vanilla game starring cousin Niko is available through Games on Demand (price varies by region) with the Lost and Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony expansions being offered until December 3 for 400 MS Points and 800 MS Points each, respectively. Next week, from December 4 to the 10th, Deadliest Warrior and all of its DLC will be discounted. Additional Kinect-focused deals are available through Xbox Live's Sales & Specials app – this week Burnout Crash is on sale for 400 MS Points ($5) with next week's deals focusing on Ubisoft's stable of Kinect games.

On December 4, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD will add three levels from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 as premium DLC: Los Angeles, Airport and Canada. Along with these levels, the revert ability from THPS 3 will be included in the 400 MS Point ($4.99) DLC package. However, the revert was previously localized to those three DLC levels only, and now Activision says all Tony Hawk HD players will receive a free update adding revert to the original levels. So if you want the three additional levels, you can snag them on December 4 for half a sawbuck or you can take the free update and up your high scores on the original lineup pulled from the first two Tony Hawk games. Or you can do both. Really it's entirely up to you.%Gallery-171573%

  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD 'THPS 3' DLC brings back the revert

The $5 DLC arriving roughly a month after the launch of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD will bring back the revert, a kind of bridge move introduced in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 that allows players to chain together combos they couldn't otherwise in previous games. Activision confirmed the news to Joystiq at a recent event. There's one catch: revert will only work within the DLC, and will not be a compatible mechanic in the core Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD game. Bummer, brah. An Activision rep told us this is because "reverts were introduced in THPS3 and the levels were designed accordingly."Yesterday, Activision told us Airport will be one of the three THPS3 levels to make the cut in the DLC, and that several more skate pros will be added as part of the $5 DLC pack. Above you can see the very first screen from the remade Airport map.

  • iPad 101: Reverting to an older version of an application

It happens to us all: an application update for the iPhone or iPad goes awry, and the new app doesn't do things the way we want (or, unfortunately, work at all on one of our devices). We ourselves are in that boat at the moment, since the new version 2.0 of the TUAW iPhone app is not working as expected on the iPad -- our development team is digging into the problem right now and we hope to be fast-tracking a fixed version right away. Our apologies for the issues. This sort of thing is particularly sticky because there's no Apple-supported way to roll back to a previous version of an iOS application once you've updated. There is a workaround, however, if you haven't yet emptied your Trash in the Finder (or if you can restore your Mobile Applications folder using Time Machine). Read on for the steps.

  • 10.6.5 Server update pulled by Apple

Update: Version 1.1 of the 10.6.5 updater is online. If you're going with it, best to use the Combo updater. If you were listening in on the Talkcast last night, you heard Steve relay a tale of woe from a client who rushed to update his server to the latest Snow Leopard build, 10.6.5, only to encounter a slew of Open Directory problems -- and with no backup to revert to safely. (Let it go forth from this time and place: Do Not Do This.) Seems like his buddy may not have been alone in finding the update less than ideal: AppleInsider reports that the update has been "quietly pulled" from Apple's servers. The problems with the update, as reported on Apple's discussion boards, include DNS resolution issues, LDAP/Open Directory master hiccups and remote storage/server connection drops. None of it good, and none of it immediately subject to workarounds; let's hope there's a patch to the patch sometime very soon.

  • PTR Notes: Rogue's Blind change changed back

From the "some-of-the-people-happy-all-of-the-time file," you may have noticed a fun little change under the Rogue notes in patch 2.2: "Blind duration reduced to 8 seconds, cooldown reduced to 1 minute, Blinding Powder is no longer required to use." Blind with only a minute cooldown? With no reagent cost? Sounds good to my PvP Undead Rogue. But most people didn't like the sound of spending all that time disoriented, so this weekend, the forums opened up with the QQ rain. Even some Rogues agreed that they didn't use Blind that often, and that the reagent costs didn't bother them that much (I know I always have tons of it from pickpocketing-- it's the Flash Powder that I never have enough of). And yet when Neth announced that the change that was in the patch notes hadn't actually been implemented on the PTR (here are the new official patch notes, sans Blind changes), the whole situation flipped-- Rogues decided that they did want the Blind change, and other classes cheered that a change they weren't sure would affect them negatively had ever existed in the first place.Should Blind be changed? I tend to agree with most people's opinions-- it works right now, so why bother with it? But all the outrage and the flip-flopping on the PTR (a place that is supposed to be full of experimentation) just brings up the point I made on the last PTR: have a little patience, people. The PTRs are a place to test ideas on a massive scale, and since this change never actually appeared on the PTRs, all the commentary on it actually came from people who'd never actually played with it in the first place.
