It may have taken a month longer than expected, but the "Hostage Negotiation" pack for Rockstar's Max Payne 3 is now available on Xbox 360 for 800 MS Points, and should also be available for $10 on PS3 and PC by the end of the day.The DLC pack includes four new multiplayer maps for use in Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Payne Killer modes, new weapons and items such as an M24 Sniper Rifle and the "Intimidation Mask," a new faction, new achievements and more. Anyone who previously purchased Max Payne 3's Season Pass is eligible to receive the DLC without expending additional funds, which is helpful since you're already spending so much to replace the furniture you've broken while slo-mo diving around the living room.

  • Max Payne 3 review: Nature of the beast

Max Payne can't even find peace in a graveyard. A quiet moment of remembrance, dour and dusted in snow, is soon buried beneath the sound of gunfire. This man exists to kill, and the tombstone that names his murdered wife and daughter is there to provide cover. The transition from emotionally tinged burial ground to functional battleground is at once touching and tasteless, presented in that kind of awkward, bittersweet combination that video games have gotten down to an art form. Can you really argue with the outcome? The cemetery perfectly recalls the birth of Max, the cynical, disheveled vigilante – and what better playground for Max, the cover-based shooter, than a plot of land filled with upright granite slabs? Rockstar can't outrun the nature of the game, no more than its wrecked anti-hero can escape his nature as problem solver via midair shooting.%Gallery-155342%

  • Max Payne 3 multiplayer to have 'Gang War' narrative, Bullet Time

The multiplayer component of Max Payne 3 is shaping up to be absolutely insane, provided the oodles of ambition outlined in this recent IGN preview is fully realized. The competitive branch of the game will focus on "Gang War" mode, an objective-based team mode which sees player's goals change dynamically based on the events of the previous round. For instance, the player with the most kills in the last round may have a bounty on their head in the following match, while a certain territory your team stole in the previous game will have to be fended off in future encounters. Players will customize their loadouts using Bursts -- usable perks which become more powerful the longer the player goes without using them. These include intriguing abilities like Paranoia, which makes the opposing team see their teammates as enemies, simultaneously enabling friendly fire. There's also the series' trademark Bullet Time, which works by slowing down foes caught in the user's line of sight. Check out IGN for more info about how Multi-Max's abilities break down.

\ If you're absolutely certain you'll want Max Payne 3 in a really bad way, and you're already financially and emotionally prepared to drop a Benjamin on it, has Rockstar got the deal for you! Between now and January 15, roughly two months before the game's March release window, you'll be able to order the Max Payne 3 Special Edition, "while supplies last." What will your $100 pre-buy you, besides the game itself? Ready? Here goes: A 10" tall Max Payne statue; "game-inspired Original Still Life Art Prints," for your art collection; a bullet-shaped keychain with screw-off back (for your drugs!); the obligatory multiplayer character pack, including Max Payne favorites like Mona Sax and Vladimir Lem; the similarly obligatory multiplayer weapons pack; and lastly, the game's original soundtrack. Curiously, this Special Edition really is special, in that it actually is limited ("while supplies last") and won't be available after release. If you want to wait, be warned that eBay scalpers are probably circling the waters already.%Gallery-139989%
