If you've been following along at home, you should have a pretty good idea of what Mines of Moria's Rune-keeper is all about, thanks to a previous Turbine dev diary and the coverage we've given you from our beta experiences. But what about advanced game mechanics with this new class? How will you go beyond simply playing the Rune-keeper and advance to mastering the Rune-keeper?Well Turbine is here to help us with this once again. In a recent dev diary, the design team explains the best roles for this new class, and elaborates on the most effective ways to nuke or heal, depending on the situation. Plus, each skill's description is explained as they relate to each Trait path. Check out the complete 10-page article for all you'll ever want to know about mastering your Rune-keeper.

The Lord of the Rings Online's Mines of Moria expansion is right around the corner, and we've been having a blast in the beta. Yesterday we shared some of our experiences in two hands-on guides to the new classes -- the Warden and the Rune-keeper.The Warden uses a unique melee combos called Gambits, while the Rune-keeper moves up and down a scale between two roles -- healer and nuker. Both look to be welcome additions to a game that previously lacked variety in its class choices compared to some competing titles. If you're a LotRO player, which one of these do you plan to roll on November 18th?

When The Lord of the Rings Online's new expansion, the Mines of Moria launches on November 18, two new master classes will be available to the player base: The Warden, a tank/dps class and The Rune-keeper, a healing/nuking class. The reason they are dubbed "master class" is that they are difficult to learn, but are powerful allies when mastered.I got to go hands-on with the Rune-keeper class in the beta for a few weeks and ran it through the paces: solo and group, with different specs and group configurations. Read on for my take on the strengths, weaknesses and tactics of the newest class to join the battle against the Shadow in the West.

As with last week's dev diary concerning class changes to the Burglar, Hunter and Lore-master, this week's guide to life after level 50 pertains to the Champion, Minstrel and Rune-keeper. When Mines of Moria hits the shelves (and our hard drives) on November 18th, most of us will share our time between experimenting with the new classes and advancing out existing ones. That's where this dev diary comes in handy. As with the previous article, this one discusses the changes to skills and play style introduced with the new expansion. However, this one is the first to mention one of the new classes: the Rune-keeper. Following an article from a few weeks ago regarding the Rune-keeper's 1-50 level progression, this one picks up where the original left off. Check this one out, and make sure to look for the final installment, presumably involving the Guardian, Warden and Captain, hopefully coming soon!

The Warden being the one that uses the special "gambit" skills, and the Rune-keeper being the one that uses either healing or DPS proficiencies, depending on how you'd like to play the class. Once more information is released on these classes and Moria in general, you can count on us to let you know about it!%Gallery-18340%

  • LotRO dev diary: Rune-keeper explained

We hear so much lately about the potential of the Rune-keeper to be lore-breaking. This new Lord of the Rings Online class which will be introduced with the first expansion, Mines of Moria, is rumored to be the first "real" magic-user class for the game, which many players are saying goes against everything Tolkien had ever created in his works. Well now skeptics may be pleased to learn much more about this new class, and more specifically, the fact that it is not the traditional lightning-bolt mage that they've feared. In the most recent dev diary from Turbine, Brian "Zombie Columbus" Aloisio goes into some amazing depth with his explanation of why the Rune-keeper was created, what it represents in the grand scheme of LotRO, and some of its unique game mechanics it brings to the table. He describes how this "glass cannon" class acts as a linguist to harness runes and their natural powers. He also describes the Attunement system in great depth, as well as many of the Rune-keeper's available skills. Check out the entire dev diary for more information.

  • LotRO weekly roundup questions Turbine's intentions with the Rune-keeper

In this week's Lord of the Rings Online forum roundup over at Ten Ton Hammer, some interesting points are made on the state of game, Tolkien's view of magic and the player impressions of the Summer Festival. Don't let the high-brow lore excerpts fool you though, the expected forum negativity still shines through this week. The Summer Festival horse's appearance has been a topic of debate since the photos from Roheryn first surfaced last month. The bright green and yellow saddle has been called everything from psychedelic to nauseating. So it should be no surprise that players are petitioning for a change. Plus, the most-heated debate in this week's roundup revolves around Tolkien's view on magic, its usage by Man and the new Rune-keeper. Does this mean the new magic-user class won't be accessible to the race of Man, or does it mean the lore will need to be stretched a bit? Either way, expect a few complaints here and there.
