Facebook will soon let you know how much time you spend 'socializing'
Facebook is developing a feature that will let you know how much time you spend on it. Developer Jane Manchun Wong found an unreleased tool deep in the code for the platform's Android app called "Your Time On Facebook" which shows how much time, on average, you spend on it every day, along with the total time you've spent on it in the last week.
Apple's digital wellness features don't go far enough
Apple's digital wellness initiative might be well intended, but it doesn't go far enough to combat screen addiction. Sure, the announcement of grouped notifications to reduce lock-screen clutter (and some anxiety) drew rapturous applause from the developers gathered at WWDC, but Apple could've done so much more, even if it meant looking like it was late to the party.
Rodent trials suggest screen-addiction hurts child development
A new study from the Seattle Children's Research Institute may have taken the first step towards confirming something my parents have been telling me for decades: too much TV rots your brain. Well, at least it does for mice. Scientists found that raising groups of mice in an environment designed to simulate extreme screen exposure developed behaviors similar to those found in children with ADHD -- resulting in adult mice with more memory problems and less patience.
