  • CHAI Skins are my cup of tea

Last week, CHAI Skins opened shop. Launa Fauna offered up five skin tones, with eight total makeups. They also came with a freckled option, and a lighting rig. On Saturday, she released three new skins. According to Ms. Fauna, she'll be coming out with new skins weekly, but that's not the best part. She's been taking the suggestions from her loyal customers and even basing new makeups around their real life looks, such as Mistress, which is based off of a picture of Mistress Midnight. She currently has two locations, one in Freelon and the other in Port Seraphine. I strongly suggest that you shop at Port Seraphine, as the Freelon sim is mainland and was the target of grief last week. Purchasing her skins in bulk has never been easier. Each skin is priced at 1200L, however if you want more, you can simply purchase a store card for later use. Three skins cost 3000L, five cost 5000L, and a whopping 10 cost 9000L. This allows you to hold the card in your hand and buy only those you truly want, versus being stuck with makeups you may not like.I'd also like to throw out a quick plug for her leather pants, which I'm wearing in the picture above, and her jeans. With careful highlighting and sculted legs, these pants do wonders for your figure. They're all available in a variety of colors, styles, and cuts, including capris![Thanks, Roslin!]

Following our review of The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night, we must do what any responsible blogging outfit should do: give it away. We may not have given it the best review score imaginable, but we know that there are Spyro junkies out there who would love to give the game a try. If you don't like it, sell it or trade it for something else. To sweeten the deal, the fine folks at RedBeard have provided us with the Wiimote and nunchuk skin, along with the classic controller skin, you see above. So, what must you do before you can get your hands on all of this? Well, first off you need to be 18 years of age and a legal resident of the United States. Second, you need to leave a comment before 11:59PM EST on Thursday, November 8th, telling us why you think you deserve this prize pack. And third, you need to sit back and wait to see if you won. We'll select a winner (by random, of course) come Friday, November 9th. Before entering, you'll have to be sure to read the rules, however.Just to make things clear: One grand prize winner will receive The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night ($50), one RedBeard Wiimote and nunchuk skin ($10) and one classic controller skin ($10). Best of luck to all of you and thanks for reading Wii Fanboy!

  • Wii Warm Up: Rock your face(plate) off

The plain white faceplate of the Wii Guitar Hero III controller has proven to be an excellent surface for artwork. Furthermore, the variety of vinyl skins (as well as the omnipresent potential for custom-printed skins) means you easily have the opportunity to make your guitar look like anything you want, as long as anything you want is shaped like a tiny Les Paul.If you didn't have to worry about ruining the controller, and if you had the artistic ability or technical cleverness to achieve it, how would you customize your guitar? What imagery, and what methods? Would you paint something onto the faceplate, or make your own custom skin? Game characters, realistic guitar finishes, or banana stickers?

We've showed you some nice DS sticker skins from South Korea before, but we think these decals are a little bit nicer. Why? Because they're 24-karat gold, of course. The SGP Metal pack, which makes the DS shiny and delicious, is being sold in South Korea for 26,200 KRW (approximately $29 USD).Adding metal trim to the DS is apparently all the rage in South Korea, which is fine by us. If we ever make it over there, we'll have to keep an eye out for all the pimped out handhelds.Hit the jump to see what this DS looks like on the inside.

Runner-up: Eddie Lopez, who enjoyed Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back And there we have it. Thank you all for entering and be sure to check back with us next week where we'll be giving away another piece of swag. Thanks for entering and thanks for reading Wii Fanboy!

  • New Guitar Hero 3 guitar skins look like guitars

After we said, uh, things about some of HeroGear's Wii Guitar Hero controller skins, we weren't sure we wanted to open the email we received from them. But rather than scream at us, they took the high road and sent us some more images of new controller skins. They did an even better job of shutting us up than any threat would have; the skins look great and entirely guitar-like!Red Burst up there looks like something we'd expect to see on a fancy PRS guitar, for example. The rest of them are all delightfully classic, with the exception of Diamond Plate, which is totally metal. Jem from HeroGear promises that their full line of "50+ designs" will be available for the Wii guitar soon after launch. So if you want to put a thin, clingy sheet of stuff over your controller, this is an option. It'll look cooler than Saran Wrap, anyway.%Gallery-7825%

  • HeroGear.net may not have ever seen a real guitar

    09.10.2007

Guitar Hero "skin" purveyor HeroGear.net has released images of their skins for Guitar Hero III controllers, including two made for the Wii guitar. The first, seen above, doesn't do a lot to aid the illusion that the squeaky plastic controller is a real guitar, since guitars tend to have paint jobs that look like they could be made of paint (and usually only on the body.) The pattern is called "Neon Blocks" and we have no idea what the idea is there. The other Wii skin, Neon Rebel, is ideal for either Lynyrd Skynyrd superfans or people who love uncomfortable conversations. Really, it's best for people who fall into both categories.

  • Hello Kitty DS Lite skin, goodbye elegance

This Hello Kitty decal set for the DS Lite has a lot going on. There's the obvious Kitty, outlined in a rhinestone-like pattern, and the "Hello Kitty" name, just as we'd expect from a Hello Kitty-branded product. But everywhere there's not Kitty, there are flowers and butterflies. Every area of vinyl that can have a flower on it has a flower on it. We haven't tested this theory, but we're pretty sure it would confuse and irritate our real cats. This is quite a divergence from the last batch of Hello Kitty skins we saw, which were quite nicely designed! [Via Aeropause]

  • A yellow Pikachu facade for your shamefully non-limited DS

    08.08.2007

This yellow silicone DS Lite cover beats the "real" Pikachu DS Lite in four ways that we can think of: It's totally got color art on it This actually prevents damage, encouraging us to play it more rather than hide it in a safe deposit box It creates that two-tone look that we apparently love, and You can get it in a reasonable manner, for $13. The last one is the real big deal. There was basically no chance of us submitting an application to the Pokemon Center in Japan, getting extremely lucky, and then shelling out for the Lite. This way, we can cover our normal DS Lite in the equivalent of a Pikachu DS Lite Halloween costume. Play-Asia is shipping the Silicon Cover (Pokemon Yellow) for $12.90. Despite the name, we're pretty sure it's made of silicone.

If going all-out with a custom Colorware paint job for your iPhone is a bit too over-the-top, perhaps some new iPhone skin kits from the everlasting DecalGirl are more your style. Printed on premium grade adhesive-backed cast vinyl with a high-gloss clear protective coating, all of their skins boast easy repositioning and goo-free removal (I've never used one of these - can anyone comment on their experiences with accessories like this and their goo factor?). For the iPhone, DecalGirl already has over 160 designs that can easily be sorted by a large selection of colors and themes, and as a bonus, you also receive a matching iPhone wallpaper to complete the redecoration. Skins seem to all be priced at a reasonable $6.99, with extra protective or stylistic finishes - like Screen Armor, Matte and Gloss - available for $4.50 to $9.99.

If you're looking for some strange accessories to accent your PS3 in ways you think immature or silly, turn your attention elsewhere! We've got some very serious add-ons to your Sixaxis to present to you today and they demand only serious gamers consider their purchase. We're being sarcastic, if you couldn't tell, but we do have some peripherals that you may find interesting. What we're talking about today are not unlike those plastic/rubber covers you can put on CDs to prevent them from scratching (we refer to them as Disc Condoms). We're talking about skins for your Sixaxis -- not just skins, but skins that change color with body heat! They retail for a little over $10 and come in a variety of colors, so if you're really OCD about keeping grubby hands off your precious Bluetooth controller, invest in one of these. The strangest part: these Sixaxis skins are officially licensed by Sony. What do you guys think? Worth it, or pass?[Thanks for the pics, Dustin!]

It's been too long since we last took a sip from China's rum bottle of personalized DS Lites; it's time to get back on that wagon with a buccaneer-themed skin.YYJoy forumer Pikapika shivered our timbers, decorating his handheld with a crossed-cutlasses pattern and Julius the Monkey decked out in full corsair regalia. Now that's piracy we can get behind! Walk the post break plank for more photos of the shipshape DS Lite.

  • Sticker shocking designs from Korea

    05.04.2007

Gariz's stickers won't upstage mods like yesterday's Zelda-themed DS Lite, but they're an easy way to personalize your handheld with an attractive design. The metal decals emphasize the embossed logo on the system' s lid, surrounding it with either a deco pattern or a miniaturized DS. Both styles come in silver and gold.Selling for approximately $29 at its Korean shop, the're no doubt that the Gariz skins are overpriced, especially when you consider that the rest of the included stickers -- matching borders for your screens, three alphabet sets, and accents for your D-pad/buttons -- are nothing to write home about. We're sure that there'll be people who won't mind paying the premium price though, as there aren't many other options for subtle customizations like these. The Nintendo DS is rife with Sudoku releases, both commercial and unofficial. Dress them up with mini-cakes or martial arts if you want to, but it's getting harder and harder for these games to keep us interested with each passing week.Leave it to homebrew superstar Mollusk to add some life to the number puzzle. As its name implies, Skinz Sudoku allows you to customize almost every visual detail of its interface. Dropping a PNG template into the game's included PAFS.bat file spits out a unique Skinz Sudoku ROM with your graphics. Jump past the post break for some examples of the different themes.Think of the possibilities! Design your screens with lightning bolts! Replace all of the numbers with Pokémon heads! Scan in a photo of your secret crush with a word balloon that says, "I luv u! Plz date me!" Just don't let anyone catch you locking lips with your DS after staring into his or her eyes for too long. Seriously guys, that's weird.

    04.29.2007

We were looking wistfully at this phantom Phoenix Wright decal set, as we are prone to do in unguarded moments, and we realized that despite the fact that this particular set was too beautiful for this world, we still have a desire to skin our DS.But we thought we'd check with you before we did anything hasty. What's your opinion on skinning? Is it universally tacky (er, in the style sense-- we'd kind of hope they were a little sticky) or a way to make your system unique? And if you're all for it, what do you go for? Bling? Anime tie-in? Or something from one of the online stores like Decalgirl that specializes in skins?

You've been able to cover your Wiimote and Nunchuk with a colorful silicone shell for some time now. But your poor Classic Controller has remained-- shamefully-- nude. Cyber Gadget is offering a solution to this indecent situation with Classic Controller skins in six colors: blue, pink, white, black, clear, and clear black. They even come with little coordinating analog stick covers! Cyber Gadget has yet to put these up on their own site, so it seems that they aren't available for sale yet. We're sure someone will offer them to non-Japanese markets once they're released.

  • Imagined skins for the Wii

    10.27.2006

Pimping out consoles with awesome, rad, super-phat skins is nothing new, but usually people wait for the system to actually be released before pasting stuff all over it. Not Rob Accomando, though; he put together a short video of how the Wii would look wrapped up in pictures of various games, cartoons, movies, sports teams and, uh, fast food, franchises.Wait, fast food franchises? Really? I mean the fried chicken controller is clever and all, but who would even consider putting a big picture of Colonel Sanders on their video game hardware? Maybe Nintendo can sooth some of those people complaining about the system's profit-making price and subsidize the console with ads. It sure worked for Gizmondo... not!
