  • Smash Bros. delay could spell doom this holiday for Wii

In speaking to Chris Kohler over at Wired, Michael Pachter stated that the delay of Smash Bros. Brawl could be a very bad thing for Nintendo and their Wii this holiday season. He thinks that Microsoft might be a contender now, stating "instead of Nintendo being the clear winner this holiday, maybe Microsoft has a chance of keeping up. There's not as much compelling Nintendo content this holiday without it." Instead of it being the killer app for Nintendo, Pachter thinks their big title will now be one from Activision. A little known title called Guitar Hero III.Even though it's releasing next month, we'd like to think that a title called Super Mario Galaxy is going to be the big hit this holiday

  • Dojo update: Taking snapshots

Following the other updates we've seen, the final one for this week might seem like it's not quite as exciting. Well, maybe it isn't, but the ability to take snapshots anytime and save them to your Wii's memory or to an inserted SD card is pretty neat. Also, being able to send them over WFC to your friends is a nice feature.Oh, and you might notice one feature is blurred out there. That should be revealed in a future update, but feel free to speculate in the comments.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

The crew at IGN sat down to throw down in some Smash Bros. Brawl earlier today, taking care to write up their impressions and upload some video of the happenings for all of the internet to see. Available to those lucky enough to try the demo are 14 different characters and 10 different maps, allowing those to play the demo as Mario, Link, Samus, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Fox, Pikachu, Pit, Meta Knight, Ike, Yoshi, Peach, Bowser and, recent newcomer, Sonic. Also of note, the demo allowed players to use the Wiimote to control the action or the Classic controller. Some of the crew at IGN preferred the Wiimote, for the use of the d-pad, while others chose the analog control of the Classic controller. Were it us, we'd go Classic as well.Hit up past the break for some more footage.

  • Dojo update: Sonic has got some moves

Following the revelation of Sonic appearing in the game and the trailer of him working his magic, today we get a breakdown on his arsenal of special moves. And, from the looks of it, he is either going to be our new favorite character, or most despised enemy. His special moves look like they may be cheaper than that of Fox's, if he's zipping around all quick like in a little ball, just running everyone over. Guess we'll have to wait and see.In the meantime, be sure to hit up our gallery below for some images of Sonic performing his special moves.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

As you may have gathered from this post's very title, what you're looking at is none other than the character selection screen for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. While normally we wouldn't create a post on a single image such as this (we crave substance in our news items), we felt you readers wanted to discuss it, regardless. So, do us proud and engage in the internet talkings.[Thanks, Ryan!]

After dropping the bomb on us very late last night (or really early this morning, depending on how you want to look at it), it's only natural that the dojo would update us with a new trailer and bio for newcomer Sonic the Hedgehog. And, based on the trailer above, Sonic's Final Smash involves him transforming into his super self. Be sure to also hit up the gallery below, where some screens of Sonic in-game await your eager eyes. And be sure to head past the break for another new trailer for the game.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

  • Dojo update: Kirby's cooking up a Final Smash

Kirby's cooking up trouble, as his Final Smash is revealed over at the dojo today. As you might have already seen in trailers for the game, Kirby's Final Smash involves cooking up his competition so that he may devour them. Kirby, the sick ball of pink that he is, has an insatiable appetite and will eat any and all, so it's only natural his Final Smash reflects that. Our only question is how do you get your opponents into the pot? Or, is it basically automatic? Since it appears most other Final Smashes actually allow the player to control the character while performing the maneuver. we're just wondering.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

It's another week and that means another 5 days full of updates over at the dojo. Today showcases the variety of maneuvers Samus can perform while in her Zero Suit, which you may or may not know occurs when she lays the smack down hard. Personally, we can't wait to give her a try in both forms, so that we may see which is better for us. Considering she was our favorite character in Melee, we're sure we'll like playing as her again.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

The last dojo update for a week brings news that the new game mode will include co-op play for two players. Much like playing as Tails in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the second player is not the focus and just follows the first player around. Still, playing with a friend can't be beat. The update also hints at a special way to power your character up for battle with the Subspace Army.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

  • Dojo update: Fox Final Smash and some hot dodging action

    10.04.2007

As if we didn't hate Fox in Smash Bros. enough, we now learn the guy's Final Smash has him piloting a huge tank. You should be familiar with the tank's arsenal of maneuvers, including hovering, doing barrel rolls and firing large bursts from its cannon. Seriously, it looks like too good of a Final Smash. Fox gets that much cheaper, we suppose. The other half of the update deals with shielding and dodging. Dodging will allow you to perform backflips and sidesteps, even rolling to your opponent's back, to get your character out of danger and find your opponent surprised and vulnerable.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%Read - Shielding and DodgingRead - Fox Final Smash

Today's dojo update reveals another kickass assist trophy. It's none other than those nuts and bolts fanatics from the NES title Excitebike. And here they do what they do best: drive really fast.In summoning up the crew, all of the racers will ride back and foth, running over any enemy of the initial summoner. And, as you can see in the picture including Bowser below, they do quite the considerable amount of damage. There is also another assist trophy revealed today in Super Mario Bros. franchise enemy Lakitu. And, as you might imagine, he tosses down Spinies left and right, hoping to catch an unsuspecting brawler.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

  • Rumor: New Wii SKU to hit this holiday

    10.02.2007

According to an anonymous supplier, Codename Revolution has the scoop on a supposed new SKU coming to retail for the holiday season. Currently dubbed "New Pack," no word yet on exactly what this new SKU could mean. All we know now is that it has a UPC of "045496880088,″ which comes back as being owned by Nintendo. Whether this is a new bundle (we're betting it's a bundled Super Mario Galaxy or Smash Bros. Brawl bundle, or perhaps one including the Wii Zapper), has yet to be determined. Don't hold your breath for a new Wii unit itself, as it's unlikely Nintendo will do a hardware revision to the console this early in its lifespan. Especially considering the popularity of the console as it is now.

There just might be a new level to topple our current favorite from Smash Bros. Melee, Hyrule. Not only is this stage a wonderful piece of nostalgia, it is also fairly functional and includes a feature we wish more stages had: nowhere to fall to your death. Seriously, we hate ourselves some plunging to doom. Oh, and occasionally a Metal Gear will appear. Rock!Click on through to check out some videos aside from the ones featured this morning, including one where Snake talks about him and Samus taking their clothes off. We can't get enough of Snake. We admit, we have the biggest crush on the guy, going so far as to sketch his name in our notebook over and over again (we also draw a lot of unicorns). And when it was announced that he was joining the roster in Smash Bros. Brawl, we nearly wet our pants. When we learned that David Hayter would be voicing the spy again, we then wet our pants. Check past the break for another video of Snake and Otacon discussing what Yoshi's gender is, as well as what he tastes like.

Yay, another new character for Smash Bros. Brawl! Unfortunately, we've never heard of him. Oh, that's probably because the game he is from (Mother 3, in case you were wondering) never released outside of Japan. Still, a new character is nice, regardless of what game he is from, so we can't complain.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

While he isn't going to do much in the way of actually assisting, the assist trophy of Mr. Resetti is still quite humorous. Like his role in the Animal Crossing series of games, his job is to lecture you to death. The update doesn't talk about what will happen if you turn the game off mid-fight, but we're sure Mr. Resetti still has his job to do, despite the game not actually being Animal Crossing.Hit up the gallery below for some images of Mr. Resetti in action.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

The update today over at the dojo reveals Diddy's Final Smash maneuver: Rocketbarrel Barrage. As you can see above, Diddy wields twin pistols while flying about with a bongo jetpack. Interestingly enough, if you miss any shots with Diddy, some peanuts will hit the ground and be up for grabs. What do the peanuts do? Well, they restore health.Check out some images of Diddy performing his Final Smash in the gallery below.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

    09.24.2007

Today's dojo update deals with the game's trophies. The update focuses on all of the things users can do with their trophies, including some of the information each one provides, as well as the ability to group and organize them however one wishes. It's nothing really too exciting, but for those completionists (see: us), it means a lot of collecting is coming our way in December.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%
