Today's dojo update is a double dose of attack goodness. Today's spotlight shines on Charged Attacks and Lucas, namely his Final Smash. The Charged Special moves are old hat to most of you, so you'll want to focus your attention on Lucas' Final Smash. It's pretty devastating and can even level entire stages.%Gallery-10206%%Gallery-6869%Read - Charged Special movesRead - Lucas' Final Smash

  • Dojo update: Saki Amamiya to dole out punishment for your sins

No doubt about it: the Assist Trophies announced thus far for Brawl have pretty much rocked. Andross, Little Mac, a Nintendog, Gray Fox, Excitebikers, Samurai Goroh, a Hammer Brother, Mr. Resetti; the sheer randomness of this list delights us, and when it comes to unleashing some Assist Trophy hurt on our opponents, we probably won't know where to start.Today's dojo update has only exacerbated our dilemma. See, it's not so much that we really like Treasure's exquisite N64 game Sin and Punishment (available on the Virtual Console now, as if we needed to remind you). It's more that we unconditionally love it, want to marry it, have its children, and settle down in the 'burbs with it for a life of rosy contentment.Hence, the news that the star of that game, Saki Amamiya, will be an Assist Trophy in Brawl has put us in a right old tizzy. He sounds pretty useful, as well, with his Cannon Sword doubling up as both a sword and a gun, allowing him to slice and shoot his way through whoever's silly enough to get in his way.%Gallery-10206%%Gallery-6869%

  • Sin & Punishment's Saki cameos in Smash Bros. Brawl

Nintendo did a very good thing by including the Japan-only N64 3D shooter Sin & Punishment: Successor to the Earth on the Wii's Virtual Console. Now, they seem to be celebrating the global introduction of the series by including the game's protagonist, Saki Amamiya, as an assist trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.Saki brings his "Cannon Sword" to the fray, which is a--well, you can probably guess what it is. With super-slick characters like Saki and Gray Fox appearing as assist trophies, we're a little disappointed that Nintendo hasn't gone the extra mile to make them fully playable in the game. In fact, there hasn't been a new character introduced on the Brawl blog in quite some time, so maybe we'll get some interesting news in the weeks to come.

Being able to switch the color of your fighter is pretty much a given in any Smash Bros. game, and Brawl uses this feature to give us the likes of Fire Mario, Mario as Wario, an albino Donkey Kong, Dark Link, Fusion Suit Samus, and Snake in a variety of fetching camouflage designs. Each character comes with six different variations, which can be toggled on the character select screen. To see more of these, hit the gallery below.%Gallery-10206%%Gallery-6869%

  • Dojo update: Ice Climbers' Final Smash

Oh sure, we might be celebrating wildly this week in the Wii Fanboy offices, but in between the reckless necking of alcohol and bare-assed photocopier antics, there's still the daily grind to take care of. Like the latest dojo update, for instance!Today's instalment has a distinctly chilly feel about it, as we learn all about the Ice Climbers' Final Smash. Ominously titled "Iceberg," this Smash does exactly what it says on the tin, with a whacking great slab of ice crashing onto the stage at your behest. The result? Smaller, slippier ledges, and extra damage to contenders who aren't the Ice Climbers.%Gallery-10206%%Gallery-6869%

Games that allow you to watch others play the game you've just dropped fifty bucks on have become increasingly prevalent recently. This trend is something of a mystery to us, probably because we're twitchy, fidgety little monkeys who'd much rather roll our sleeves up and jump into the action ourselves.Nevertheless, Brawl will also cater to those who don't mind taking in the action from afar. "Spectator" mode in Nintendo's scrapper is apparently "something that even people who aren't good at games can enjoy," (not us then, because obviously we rock) and will allow spectators to wager coins on the outcome of a battle. And even if you don't win any bets, you'll still get some free stickers just for watching. Because nobody ever really loses in Nintendo games.%Gallery-10206%%Gallery-6869%

  • Betting comes to Brawl with Spectator Mode

Those with a gambling addiction or who just simply "like to watch" are in for a treat when Super Smash Bros. Brawl finally (hopefully) launches in February 2008. Hot off the official Brawl website is the news that Nintendo's all-star fighter will include a Spectator mode, allowing players to sit back and watch the carnage without lifting a finger. Not content to simply let players observe each battle, Nintendo has also included a betting system, where players can use their hard-earned coins to wager on combatants during each Brawl battle. Winning can pay off big, but Nintendo has sweetened the pot even more by promising copious amounts of stickers to all the spectators, with the potential for "extra prizes."Of course, regular paranoid Wii online limitations still remain: you won't be able to see the names of any of the players you'll be watching, and Spectator Mode matches you with upcoming online battles automatically, so it doesn't seem like you'll be able to follow one fighter over a number of matches. And we don't even really know what those coins will do in the game. Still, everyone likes gambling, right?[Thanks, Brock_UK]

  • Dojo update: Meta Knight can bust a move

Meta Knight has had his move set revealed today, showcasing how he plans on busting a move come February when the game hits shelves. He ain't the type to just sit there, he busts a move. And what a move he busts, as his Dimensional Cape looks like it's going to be quite handy. Not to say the rest of his moves lack any kind of punch, but we look forward to shuffling around fools on the battlefield.Hit up past the post break to check out some more move bustin' action.%Gallery-10206%%Gallery-6869%

Taunts may be more or less redundant, but they still littered our Melee sessions, and we expect the same will be true of Brawl. Today's dojo update gave us a first look at how we'll be able to goad our opponents in the game, so we see Link giving his sword a nonchalant twirl, Mario spinning his hat "whimsically," Snake hiding in his box, and Sonic giving us a quick shuffle of his feet. Each character has three different taunts, all of which can be executed by pressing certain directions on either the d-pad, or the Wii Remote's 1 and 2 Button.%Gallery-10206%%Gallery-6869%

Super Smash Bros. Brawl newcomer Ike has had his Final Smash revealed today. In showcasing his deadly Great Aether attack, only one word comes to mind: ouch! Seriously, his attack looks like it packs quite the punch, as he isn't restricted to performing the maneuver right then and there It appears he can run about the stage to find his victim before swiping his sword to initialize the attack.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

Lucas just might be our new favorite character to hate, as today the dojo reveals his special move list. Sure, Fox has the annoying ability to reflect everything and spam his pistol across the whole level, but Lucas might have him beat with the Psi Magnet maneuver you see above. It allows him to absorb projectiles and turn it into health.Since our favorite character is Samus, he could very well be a lot of trouble to fight.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

There's a tasty double serving of updates today on the dojo, but the lowdown on Brawl's "Grab and Throw" manoeuver is likely to be overshadowed by the inclusion of a second Metal Gear Solid character. The good news is it's not Raiden (we fear the internets would implode with fanboy vitriol), but Frank Jaeger, a.k.a cyborg ninja Gray Fox, a.k.a That Dude Who Engages In A Totally Badass Battle With Metal Gear REX Only To Get Heroically Stomped. The bad news: he's not playable, but merely an Assist Trophy. Nevertheless, a pretty cool addition.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

For how much things change in this game, we're glad to see some things are going to remain the same. Such as some of the franchise's most well-known items, including the Home-Run Bat and the Fire Flower. One of the other items that you may recall, the Beam Sword, has received a slight alteration, however, giving it a much farther reach.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

Paying homage to the game that started it all back on the N64, the return of character entrances is now confirmed for Smash Bros. Brawl in today's dojo update. As you can see above, Mario emerges from a pipe, Pit descends from the heavens and Snake turns off his optical camouflage. Personally, we're glad to see the small feature back. It adds more flavor to each of the characters, wouldn't you say?%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

If you were wondering what newcomer Meta Knight's Final Smash was going to be, wonder no more. Today's dojo update reveals just that. And, based on the screens, it looks pretty devastating. The only problem we can see is that once you get the Smash Ball, you have to have your enemies fairly close to you. Once it drops, what's to keep them from just running away from you?%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

The dojo reveals the stage that s belonging to the Ice Climbers, The Summit. Aside from its look, the stage is also different than you might remember in that it has a bit more action going on within. The large glacier will become detached from the ground, sliding downhill and finally making its way into the sea, as you see above. Once out adrift, the environment becomes a bit more dangerous.

As excited as we are about the Super Smash Bros. Brawl's four thousand other features, we're especially anxious to play with the recently-announced Stage Builder. Penny Arcade forumer Mntorankusu shares our enthusiasm, but rather than wait until next February to live out his dream of constructing levels for a video game, he whipped up a barebones Flash application that mimics the Brawl's edit screen. In its current state, the online editor doesn't support specific structures or skinned platforms, but as you can see from our sophomoric sample stage above, there's still a lot of room for creativity. Past the post break, we've included some of the funnier and more ingenious arenas we've seen so far from the Penny Arcade forums and NeoGAF. Try it out yourself, and leave a comment with your results!

  • New Smash Bros character listed on voice actress resume [update]

    10.29.2007

A listing on voice actress Alesia Glidewell's online resume hints that Krystal, who debuted in the much loved (we kid, we kid) Star Fox Adventures, will make an appearance in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Glidewell lists among her credentials for video game voice over and motion capture three characters from the upcoming game: Krystal, Knuckle Joe, and Zero Suit Samus. We don't know how Krystal will be incorporated into Brawl, if at all; she could be an assist trophy, a stage-centric distraction, a cameo in the single player storyline, or even a fully-fledged playable character. Then again, Krystal might've been cut entirely, or the resume is simply mistaken. If it was up to us, we'd prefer the disc space be used to include a Pikmin wearing a Virtual Boy (thanks for the mental image, Justin), but we don't get a say in the matter. We'll have to wait for a confirmation from the Smash Bros. blog to see what plans, if any, they have for the character.Update: The listing has been removed, leaving a blank white row. [Thanks, Ross ... no, not me]

  • Dojo update: Stage Builder

    10.29.2007

If you ever doubted Brawl would have the potential to decimate your social life, then now is perhaps a good time to revise that opinion. According to today's Dojo update, the game will ship with a fully-fledged Stage Builder feature, allowing tinkering types like us to choose the size of the stage, the background pattern, the music that plays as you're scrapping, and offering an array of platforms, traps, terrain, ladders, and more.Once you're done, you can save your handiwork to an SD card if you like, but here's the really superb part: you can send your creations to other people, or even to Nintendo. If Ninty really likes your level, it'll be sent out over the Internet for other Brawl players to sample, with a different user-created stage distributed each and every day. As the Dojo update itself puts it, "This means you'll be able to experience a new stage every day -- the flavor of the day, if you will. However, the plan is for that stage to vanish once one day has passed. It's a once-in-a-lifetime encounter."A most excellent addition, we reckon. What say you?%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

As we imagined, today's dojo update follows up yesterday's news of a new character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl in King Dedede. And, being the king of Dream Land, you can imagine what he has at his disposal. Aside from the devastating attack you see above, he can also toss around some of his minions to aid him in battle, as well as the ability to charge up his hammer to really knock some heads. We'd be lying if we didn't say King Dedede wasn't looking awfully tough.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%
