It's been almost two years since the last total solar eclipse passed over the US, but there's a good chance you remember all of the hype. Now, a total solar eclipse is heading for parts of Chile and Argentina. It will arrive tomorrow, and thanks to NASA and the Exploratorium, you can catch a livestream as it happens. Beginning at 3pm ET, the agency will stream the eclipse, and at 4pm ET it will begin commentary in both English and Spanish. All three streams will be available on NASA's website.

  • Stunning solar eclipse photo taken with an iPhone 5s

To promote the field of astronomy, NASA each day publishes an "Astronomy Picture of the Day" that showcases different aspects of our amazing universe. Each photo includes a brief explanation, which is written in layman's terms by a professional astronomer. An entry from Monday of this week highlights the recent solar eclipse with a stunning photograph by Doyle Slifer that captures the moon blocking out a portion of the sun. The timing of the shot was impeccable, with a plane, clouds and sunspots captured simultaneously in the frame. Though NASA's description doesn't mention it, this moment in time was photographed using an iPhone 5s as described by Slifer in a post on Reddit. This pic was taken by holding my iPhone up to the eyepiece of my telescope. It was a lucky shot (that I managed to catch the airplane). But, I keep thinking that shots like this really only happen because we all have these amazing cameras in our pockets. Plus, I LOVE the camera on my 5s. :) Thanks to some sleuthing by Slifer, the pilot in the picture discovered the APOD photo and joined in on the conversation in another Reddit thread. He was a student pilot flying with his instructor in a Cessna. You can check out a high resolution version of the photo on NASA's APOD website and hop over to Reddit's astrophotography and iPhone boards for the follow-up comments.

  • Shifting Perspectives: Total Eclipse, part 1

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Shifting Perspectives for cat , bear , restoration and balance druids. Balance news comes at you every Friday -- learn how to master the forces of nature, and know what it means to be a giant laser turkey! Send your questions, comments, or something you'd like to see to tyler@wowinsider.com. Eclipse is probably a rather worn topic for many balance druids. People love it, people hate it. The new design is great, the new design is terrible. It's too mathy, it doesn't function well in PvP, it's too gamey. There are a lot of positive and negative things that can be said about Eclipse. No matter your side of the fence, there are always attempts to improve upon Eclipse, to make it more viable for PvP or less annoying in PvE. A fair warning, as I attempt to deconstruct both the Eclipse system itself and the common suggestions that arise: It will be impossible to avoid all math. Theorycrafting may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I promise to keep it as minimal and easy-to-understand as I possibly can -- for both our sakes.

Not satisfied with just rolling out prototypes and specs, JVC is putting its 4K compact camcorder prototype to work to screen a live solar eclipse throughout several live venues (also in 4K at some locations) in Japan. This camera is the first to deliver its high res, 60p video in real-time, so it can be broadcast a look through the 190-degree fisheye lens shown attached in the picture above in sky domes by 4K projectors. Anyone want to see if they can get Cinedigm on this?
