Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will not support Wii U's voice chat functionality, developer Sumo Digital told Eurogamer. The game will support voice chat on other platforms.Voice chat is not a standard feature for the Wii U. Late last week it was revealed that voice chat is only supported through third-party, officially licensed headsets plugged into the headphone jack of the WiiPad. Yes, the WiiPad has a built-in microphone, but don't hurt yourself trying to figure why that won't work. Also, things get really complicated when you realize the Pro Controller doesn't have a headphone jack.We reached out to Nintendo for a comprehensive list of titles that support voice chat from the Wii U launch line-up. It'd know, right?"Wii U will have in-game chat functionality for select games, including, but not limited to, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Assassin's Creed 3 and Mass Effect 3," the company responded to our query. "This feature will be supported by licensed stereo headsets that plug directly into the headphone port of the Game Pad. Licensed headsets are available from Turtle Beach and TRITTON."Apparently the company is playing it close to the chest. The Wii U launches in under a month.

The Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed trailer above focuses on all the different options you have, including online or split-screen multiplayer, normal races or challenges, etc. But all we saw was that Super Monkey Ball track. That's a great idea for a track!

Sumo Digital didn't need to re-engineer the graphics of its upcoming game for Wii U, the developer disclosed in an interview. Sumo, currently working on Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed, was worried the game's "effects and shaders" would need an overhaul on Wii U. Instead, the British studio was left impressed by the new console. The game's executive producer, Steve Lycett, described the graphics processing unit's capability as a "surprise."Lycett also praised the Wii U's memory, arguing that its abundance helps make the console's graphics equal to that of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3."The Wii U looks as good any of the HD platforms," Lycett told Official Nintendo Magazine, "The Wii U has way more memory, so we can take advantage of that with less compression on elements and textures, so it will look all lovely and shiny."

A new "Bonus Edition" of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed brings in the most sensible Sega franchise ever for a racing game: OutRun. A level based on Sega's classic racer will be included with the edition, sold to pre-order customers at launch (in other words, it's a bonus for the first printing, more than it is a "special" edition.)Alongside the OutRun content, the Bonus Edition includes a playable Metal Sonic character and vehicle, and an in-game "Emoticon Sticker Pack." As part of the announcement of this edition, Sega also announced release dates for the PS3, Xbox, and Vita versions: November 20 in North America. The 3DS and PC versions weren't given specific dates, but they're presumably still due in November.

Now we see why the sequel to Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is called "Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed," minus the "Sega." Joining Danica Patrick in the group of people who have no business in a Sega mascot racer is Wreck-it Ralph, the title character from the new video game-themed Disney movie.Given his history as someone who wrecks things on a professional level, Ralph players should feel great for just finishing any race with their transforming vehicles intact.Sega notes that it plans to release Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on " the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo's Wii U, and Windows PC Digital Download this November." We're not taking that as ironclad evidence of a November release for Wii U, but it is at least suggestive! (Also, of course the Wii U will be out by November.)

In what counts as a massive media explosion for such a little franchise, NiGHTS' new HD update will occur alongside the franchise's appearance in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. During a "Summer of Sonic" event over the weekend, Sega showed footage of NiGHTS and Reala (as vehicles) in the upcoming racer. The dreamy flight game will also be represented in track form, with Spring Valley shown as a prototype, and another track based on Nightmare is in progress at developer Sumo Digital. It's nice to see NiGHTS come back into prominence, even if he has somehow transformed into a car along the way.

Danica Patrick, NASCAR racing star, is a playable character in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. This is despite being a real human person and not a cartoon hedgehog, confined monkey, or any other kind of Sega all-star.Sega is returning the favor by sponsoring a special Sonic-themed car for Patrick to drive at the O'Reilly Auto Parts Challenge on November 3.

Sonic and friends are officially heading back to the track later this year with Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. As the title implies, the cast of Sega characters drive transforming vehicles this time around, with screenshots showing off planes, boats and, of course, cars. The roster now includes more favorite Sega characters, including Vyse from Skies of Arcadia and Gilius Thunderhead (A.K.A. "the dwarf") from Golden Axe.The game also promises dynamic tracks and a "fair weapon system" that allows players to block or evade incoming attacks. One of those tracks is based on Panzer Dragoon, which makes this racing sequel the closest thing to a new Panzer Dragoon game in a long time (well, almost).Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will make its way to Xbox, PS3, Vita, 3DS and PC this holiday.%Gallery-154348%
