Not content to simply blame millennials for killing practically everything, baby boomers are now expecting the younger generations to care for them in their agedness. The nerve. Indeed, some 13 percent of the American population is now 65 or older, though a recent report from the Pew Research Center suggests that figure will nearly double by midcentury. Given that the current annual median price of a nursing-home room is around $92,000 (and rising), and because we can't just up and dump a quarter of America at the Springfield Retirement Castle, robots will have to start lending elderly folks a hand. Because if there's anybody who inherently trusts new and confusing technologies, it's the olds.

When you think about it, MMOs and Halloween go together like Sonny and Cher. Wait, let's come up with a more contemporary reference -- like Laurel and Hardy. Crud, that's even less contemporary. Do kids still do the iPods these days? MMOs and Halloween go together like Apple and DRM. The point is, they go together. Let us progress to the next paragraph and pretend like this one never happened. Halloween is all about engaging in fantasy, flirting with the dark side, dressing up in fantastical outfits, and getting sweet, sweet candy from complete strangers. This makes it a close cousin of your typical MMO experience, which is perhaps why MMOs tend to go bananas around October 31st with in-game holidays, decorations and costumes for your costumes. Assuming that your preferred MMO is throwing a Halloween holiday, will you be a willing and eager participant this Sunday? Is your guild planning a spooky bash and costume gala? Or are you planning a self-guided tour through the more terrifying locales with a group of friends-slash-victims? What are your MMO Halloween plans? Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of their readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's Daily Grind!

As much hubbub as there is surrounding new games for sale, there's one class of game that often gets the cold shoulder: Free games. It's sad, not only because there's a lot of really clever, well-crafted stuff in the shareware/Flash/freeware world, but also because they're all so very, very free. We at Joystiq decided they should huddle in the shadows no longer as we present our new weekly feature, The Joystiq Free Game Club. What do you have to do to be a member? Well, the idea is this: We'll pick out a game that meets two important criteria: 1. It's free. 2. It's interesting. We won't be picking solely the newest stuff, just things that we think merit your attention. Then, we ask that you give it a whirl and share your thoughts with the rest of the Joystiq biomass in the comments section. It's like Oprah's Book Club, but with more zombies.Proving that point, we're kicking off with Sonny, a deep, Flash-based RPG with an incredible soundtrack by Armor Games that we think everyone should play. Let us know what you think. For another look at the Freeware scene, check out BigDownload's Freeware Friday series.
