Some guys will hold open a door for a lady, others might offer their jacket on a cold night. For Agent 47, he'll kill every dude in the world to ensure her safety. And they said chivalry is dead!

We cornered skateboarding figurehead Tony Hawk on the red carpet at this year's Spike Video Game Awards to get the skinny on that big announcement he has planned for the show -- as it turns out, the announcement is ... a Tony Hawk game! "Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD" will apparently take "select" levels from the first two Tony Hawk titles, HD-ify them, and wrap it all up in a neat digital package for "digital platforms" sometime in the first half of 2012.Hawk told our man on the ground, Mike Schramm, that classic levels "School" and "Downhill" would make appearances, but didn't let on any more. The game will assuredly get a blowout tonight as the VGAs commence, so stay tuned! Or, uh, go watch old trailers of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2. Either/or.Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD will be the first entry in the series after an ambiguously worded shuttering of the franchise by publisher Activision late last year. Clearly the series isn't quite dead yet!Update: Tony says the game will apparently arrive sometime during the summer, and will be priced "under $20." Also, we saw a brief bit of gameplay, and it looks pretty!

  • Metal Gear Solid Rising now Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, developed by Platinum Games [update]

The latest trailer for Metal Gear Solid Rising (now totally and completely Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance) has leaked onto NeoGAF ahead of tonight's anticipated Spike VGA reveal, and boy does it ever reveal stuff, primarily that the title is being developed by the over-the-top action aficionados responsible for Bayonetta, Platinum Games. The trailer also looks much more like an actual game than previous footage we've seen from Konami in the past. We're sure more will be revealed during tonight's VGAs. Update: To clarify the blatant lack of a trailer above this post, here's the poop: This was a leak, meaning that no one was supposed to see the trailer or glean information from its sparkly vissage until later tonight, during its official reveal at the Spike TV VGAs. If the suspense is literally killing you, you might be able to find a copy of it on YouTube or other streaming sites, but know that uploads we've seen have disappeared as fast as we found them. We will, of course, be posting the trailer in the highest possible quality once it is "officially" released later tonight.

We've been let down by Epic teasing new IP in the past, so we're a bit wary of tipping you off on this one. That said, Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski took to an official Spike Video Game Awards promo himself to hint at a big reveal coming from his studio this week. "An entirely fresh, new experience" is what Bleszinski characterizes the unveiling as, specifically noting that it doesn't have anything to do with Gears of War or Infinity Blade. Presumably, the reveal does have something to do with the once teased GDC 2011 announcement (the announcement that never happened), as well as the recent hirings, though Bleszinski isn't offering up much else in the clip. Okay, okay -- he also offers that the project is being developed internally at the Cary, NC headquarters for Epic. Otherwise, like you, we'll find out what the big secret is when the VGAs air later this week. Peep the teaser right here in the meantime.

Over the last couple of years, Spike TV's annual Video Game Awards ceremony has become a launching pad for more than teleprompter dialogue and stilted celebrity sight reads. Publishers are utilizing the exceedingly televised event as an opportunity to reveal new titles and IPs; take The Last of Us, for example. Beyond the fact that it's a PS3 exclusive and will have something to do with ants, rioting and/or the apocalypse, The Last of Us is as much of a mystery to us as it is to everyone else. Glean what you can from the teaser above, and visit the official site for a short clip of an ant licking its butt.

The first teaser for the next game from BioWare brought to mind Uncharted, with a single image of desert environment and a car exploding. This latest video teaser promises "a new direction, a new game, from a new BioWare studio." That direction is less fantasy and less space opera, and more "tanks in an urban environment blowing stuff up." The full reveal will happen at the 2011 Video Game Awards on December 10, so get speculating.

The nominations have been announced for the somethingth annual Spike Video Game Awards. Contenders for game of the year are the expected assortment of superheroes, adventurers, artificial intelligences and dragon murder simulators. Namely, the nominated games include Batman: Arkham City, Skyrim, Uncharted 3, Zelda: Skyward Sword and Portal 2 (which came out way back in April, remember). Check out the full list of categories and nominations after the break. In the meantime, the Joystiq staff will continue to quibble about games that are missing from the list (ahem, Dead Space 2, Shadows of the Damned).

You already know that Alan Wake's Night Springs is headed towards its big debut at the 2011 Spike Video Game Awards, and you already know that it'll arrive on Xbox Live Arcade. What you didn't know is that Mr. Wake has got himself a whole new "Bob Vila meets Twin Peaks" look going on, as revealed by Game Informer's exclusive first screenshot. Also, hey, he's got a gas-powered pneumatic nail gun! The darkness isn't gonna like nails in its stupid face, is it? Yeah! It also appears that Wake's got quite a bit of walking ahead of him, as a nearby highway sign puts 15 miles between him and the titular town of Night Springs. Hopefully the Desert Shore Motel can help sate him for that journey with a damn fine cup of coffee and some delicious cherry pie.

Wondering what BioWare's next, unannounced project is? So are we! Game Informer has the exclusive on the first teaser image (seen above), and promises all will be revealed at next month's Spike Video Game Awards show. We've got high hopes that your eyes are sharper than ours, because we're not seeing much here other than the obvious: the dude flying from the car appears to be black, wearing a chain of bullets, and ... uh ... maybe he's being attacked by the smoke monster? Like you, we'll find out when the VGAs air on December 10.
