Cabel, the gentleman known for his astounding DS Lite review videos, has recently provided the hungry intertron with sustenance in the form of a tasty appetizer Starfox Command video in his E3 2006 wrap-up. The video, which is a bit on the short side and fails to provide any kind of long-term satisfaction, shows Fox flying about one of the game's areas, dodging Tesla-like towers that fire red pulsing beams.[Note: Clicking on the graphic to the right or the Read link at the bottom of the post will take you directly to the .mov file for the clip, which will require Quicktime to play.][Thanks Mikami!]

No doubt attempting to organize the masses of people who constantly barge into stores at random intervals and demand games that aren't due for release in months, Nintendo has sent out a handy "release list" thing. If we understand this correctly, it's supposed to tell you on which day some of their major DS games will be set loose upon the public. That's Nintendo for you--always innovating.June 5: Big Brain Academy™June 5: Magnetica™June 11: Nintendo DS™ Lite (although that depends on where you're shopping)June 26: Sudoku GridmasterAug. 28: Star Fox DSSept. 18: Pokémon® Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue TeamSept. 25: Mario vs. Donkey Kong™ 2: March of the MinisOct. 9: Clubhouse Games™Oct. 30: Children of ManaSadly, it looks like the new Kirby game and Yoshi's Island 2 will only be released during or after the cheerfully explosive holiday season. Don't let that stop you from demanding it from the store clerk next week.[Update: To clear up any confusion - this list encompasses Nintendo titles only.]

StarFox Command, the newly renamed DS adventure featuring Arwings, anthropomorphic pilots and gratutious amounts of spinning is now set to release on 28 August 2006. Apart from maneuvering through 3D landscapes and blasting enemy ships to smithereens, you'll be able to draw routes on the bottom screen for your teammates to follow as they assist you in taking over enemy bases. We assume that's where the "Command" part comes in.As for Nintendo Wi-Fi, up to 4 players can duke it out online, with a more impressive number of 8 being relegated to local wireless play. As Falco would say, "How swell." [Thanks Redfield! I hope this isn't your blood.]

  • Miyamoto speculates on StarFox Wii

Several sources on the Intertron suggest that Miyamoto recently confirmed a StarFox game for the Wii...sort of. The article cited is an interview from the latest issue of Famitsu, wherein Shigeru Miyamoto suggested that a StarFox game (if Nintendo were to make one, mind you) could make some involving and intricate use of the Wiimote. A shocking revelation indeed, especially in the wake of a Virtual Console that is likely to feature the original, and dare we say good, StarFox titles. No offense to those that enjoy frolicking around on the ground in the company of dinosaurs, of course. If Nintendo takes Miyamoto's ideas and develops a full game (and they almost certainly will), we can only hope they keep the Fox's feet off the ground and well within the space opera house.[Thanks Nikolai!]

Nintendo looks like it's finally ready to shed the obligatory 'DS' titling format used for its first-party franchise line* by renaming Star Fox DS to Star Fox Command. While the official website reflects the new naming, the game's logo has not yet been updated. Star Fox Command is scheduled for release on August 28.*Includes: Mario Kart DS, Super Mario 64 DS, and Tetris DS.

  • Inkel's WIDETOUCH 5.6 does navigation and multimedia

We see a lot of GPS-enabled foreign PMPs pass through here, but rarely are they being pitched by a mascot quite as appealing as Inkel's Starfox-meets-Robin Hood spokesperson. Available in black or white, the WIDETOUCH 5.6 features -- you guessed it -- a 5.6-inch widescreen LCD for navigation and media viewing, 400MHz Samsung ARM CPU, and built-in DMB receiver on select models. That digital TV option hikes the price up to almost $600, but since this model will only be sold in Korea, things like pricing and availability probably don't matter much to you.

Yesterday at their press conference, Nintendo officially announced that, among many others, Star Fox is coming to the DS. Already rumored earlier this week, the now-confirmed Star Fox DS will utilize the touch screen to "draw the routes they and their teammates will take, then battle the enemies they encounter as they take over bases and strategically advance across the map." We are hoping it features the title's rich history for colorful quotations, including: "Fox! Get this guy off me!" "Thanks, Fox. I thought they had me." "Gee, I've been saved by Fox. How swell." "Slippy's not such a screw-up after all." "You're not getting away that easy!" "Do a Barrel Roll!" Star Fox DS will take off in late September.

  • Rumor: New Starfox-like title to be presented at E3

Quite possibly one of those "purple monkey dishwasher" instances, supposedly Sir Miyamoto commented to a journalist of the French variety that a new title would be debuted for the DS at the company's E3 press conference. This mystery title, if the post linked is to be believed, will be very similar to once-hot, now-not franchise Starfox. Everyone is already going wild on the internet speculating that it is none other than the infamous Starfox 2, a game that was supposedly in finished beta form, yet never released due to the age of the hardware. Sir Shig's comment, which is supposedly this, when translated mentions nothing about this, so believe what you will. [Via Go Nintendo]
