There's nothing like a Steam sale to remind us how not-dead or un-unwell PC gaming is. Just as it did this time last year, Steam's holiday sale helped the Windows, Mac, and Linux client reach a new milestone: more than 7 million users logged in at the same time. Last year's milestone was 6 million, and our often unerring grasp of rudimentary math tells us that's a rise of 1 million across the year. Bear in mind that's concurrent users; the total number of registered Steam accounts surpassed 65 million at the end of October. Speaking of Steam sales, there's still time to pick up the weekend's new deals, with discounts from upon high for the likes of Torchlight 2, Fez, The Wolf Among Us, Metro: Last Light, The Witcher 2, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, Shadowrun Returns, and pa-lenty more.

Investing in ostentatious sword-arms is a lot easier today, with Steam chopping 50 percent off the price of Deus Ex: Human Revolution in its Autumn Sale. That lowers it to $24.99, alongside The Missing Link DLC -- also discounted to $7.49. Dead Island receives its own dramatic reversal in price ($24.99), as does Telltale's Back to the Future series ($9.99). The Serious Sam HD double pack is quite the temptation at $2.99, but we've vowed to do something more constructive this weekend. Why not administer intravenous therapy to an ailing patrician for $6.79?

Before you venture over to Steam's Autumn Sale page, quietly recite your honed mantra of resistance: "I do not have time to play these games. I haven't even finished Skyrim. All these small charges add up in the long run." Alright, now that you've done that and shown yourself a vague, minute attempt at adhering to frugality, you'll feel less guilty when you buy everything. L.A. Noire: The Complete Edition wants $24.99, Fallout: New Vegas is five bucks and the Monkey Island Special Edition bundle is cut down to $5.09. ACE Team's bizarro brawler, Zeno Clash, enters the sale at $3.74, and topsy-turvy adventure VVVVVV costs $1.24 until tomorrow afternoon. That's less than 21 cents per V.
