Or maybe that should read, "from the workshop," but hey, we're here for the funny. We've seen Tetris-themed shelves before, from the homemade variety to the type reserved for rich folks with taste, and one and all, they make us lust for some block-built shelves of our own. The cunningly-fitted wooden sections would surely bring a particular charm to any gaming space, but the presence of so many plain wooden versions does beg one question: why aren't any of them painted in multiple colors? Oh well. We who only envy don't really get a say, do we? Clayton, we want your shelves. Feel free to pack up all your gear and ship that off as well. Thanks, buddy.Clayton tells us that this is an older picture of the shelves he lovingly crafted for his media, and we can only imagine how they must look now, groaning with the weight of an ever-increasing collection. We salute you, Tetris fan ... and may we recommend these for your cold beverages? Hit the break to see the shelves in full, and don't forget to show us what you have in the way of awesome gaming gear. From crafts to cakes to collections ... whatever you've got, if it has a little Nintendo flavor, we want to see it. Just take some pictures (or copy your web album links) and send them to showmeit [at] dsfanboy [dot] com. We'll take care of the rest.

Tetris mastermind Alexey Pajitnov will speak during next month's GameCity industry festival in Nottingham, England. The man whose classic puzzler turned us all into 'Game Boys' will join other presenters, including the previously announced Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi, who will deliver the event's keynote address and show off his upcoming title Nobi Nobi Boy. According to IGN, Pajitnov will host a series of Tetris-themed events during the 4-day celebration, including an attempt by Tetris guru James Clewitt at besting the Tetris scoring record, as well as a screening of the documentary Tetris: From Russian with Love. This year's GameCity will take place at multiple venues in Nottingham from October 24-28.

One summer night about nine years ago, I decided to try to play some Tetris DX to help me get to sleep; it was late and I had to go to work early. So I propped a pillow against the wall, sat up, and turned on my Game Boy Color expecting to relax with some falling blocks. The game that followed was the longest Tetris game I ever played; I couldn't begin to estimate the time it lasted, but by the time it was over, I had amassed over 1,000 lines. I could have paused the game and turned the system off, but I didn't want to risk failure when I came back to zippy level-30 gameplay. At the same time, I was tired. This shirt from Huzzah Goods reminded me of that night. Even if you haven't spent hours and hours battling Tetris for sleep time, Tetris dreams are probably a fairly common experience. It's a really cute shirt too.

Last night's Game Night was kind of a bust, we must admit. There wasn't that great a turnout and connection problems plagued the participants. But, hey, that's life; we can't control everything. But, there's always next week to look forward to. And, it's also time to reset the poll, so let's get to it! What should be our theme game for 9/13/07? This video was just too funny to resist; when it turned up on Boing Boing, we knew we would have to borrow it for this week's video spotlight. What happens when two guys (we assume) dressed as Tetris pieces decide to get into it? See for yourself after the break. Frankly, we think Mr. Blue Piece cheated through the power of his extra block. We should also warn you, there's a little swearing in the beginning, but what else can you expect from Battle Tetris?

A gathering of German journalists, publishers and "experts" met at this year's Leipzig Games Convention to pick what they felt were the most influential games of all time (via GameSetWatch). Of the reported 150 nominations, 16 titles were ultimately chosen and, of those, four were noted for being most frequently noted. The four top-honored games are Tetris, Pong, Doom and Pac-Man. Though we agree with much of the list, we're still left feeling some titles were unfortunately overlooked (e.g. E.T., Custer's Revenge). What do you think of the list?See Also: 10 most important video games of all time, as judged by 2 designers, 2 academics, and 1 lowly blogger[Image credit: Senechaux]

When we woke this morning, it was very reminiscent of Christmas mornings as a child, as we sprung out of bed and ran out to the living room with a large smile on our face. We knew this day of all days would ensure that we got to at least play one game, no matter how busy we are. Are you ready to take that hour-long break with us later on?

Did you folks have fun at Game Night yesterday? We sure did, as not only did we manage to get some Tetris DS in, but also a rather lengthy match of Metroid Prime Hunters. As far as Game Nights go, it was one of the better ones. Yet, there were still some people who just couldn't get in on the action. So, this week, we want you to tell a friend about Game Night and get him or her to commit to attend. If they don't, give us their address and we'll drag them there, kicking and screaming. I love this quote from the Quinn author Simon Härtel: "Quinn is an implementation of a popular falling-blocks game which, according to the Tetris Company, must not be named here." We've mentioned this game before as "...one of the most beautiful applications on the Mac." Version 3.5 continues to look great and finally brings Quinn into the Universal Binary age. One of the coolest things about Quinn is its support for network play, allowing you go head-to-head against other players. This version also opens up some new customization options, so if you're missing your old-school (not) Tetris experience, you should give Quinn a lookQuinn is a free download from Simon Härtel. Thanks Zon!

Last night's Game Night went rather well, despite some of us being "teh sick." We got many a race on in Mario Kart DS, so we were happy about that. Of course, like all good things, our play time had to come to an end and we were forced back into our cages to continue blogging. We're almost out of games, so we'll be resetting the poll soon.
