One of the bonuses you get for purchasing the Halo 3 Xbox 360 is a special Halo 3 dashboard theme and set of exclusive gamer pictures to show the world that you're the proud owner of a Halo 3 360. And, of course, nobody has seen these exclusive downloads yet ... until now. Over on Xbox.com the powers that be have already placed previews of all seven exclusive gamer pictures as well as all the blade backgrounds from the Halo 3 Special Edition theme. It could be be accident that they've already uploaded the pictures or they did it on purpose, because they want consumers to know what goods they're getting before ploping down their cash. But no matter the reason, you can preview both uber exclusive theme and gamer picture downloads on Xbox.com. Enjoy.[Thanks, SpaceGhostFlyer]Read - Halo 3 Special Edition themeRead - Halo 3 Special Edition gamer pictures

  • A WoW iPhone theme

It's been a good few weeks since we've had an iPhone-related post here at the Insider, so it's probably time for another one. While this may not be any form of playing WoW on the iPhone, it's definitely pretty cool: this is a WoW theme that can be applied to the iPhone, changing all its menu icons and background image. And in my opinion, it's pretty sweet. If I had an iPhone I'd definitely take this for a spin. This is the work of Dimos (Darkspear-H), and if you want to Blizz up your own phone, the files to do so are at ModMyiPhone.com. I particularly enjoy the Phone icon being a hearthstone. A common conception on RP servers is that the hearthstone is what enables us to communicate in chat channels, serving as some sort of radio-like device. I don't know if this is what Dimos was going for, but it pleases me either way. The Safari icon is also an uncanny match -- does anyone know what that icon is used for in-game?

  • Free Balls of Fury Marketplace downloads

To celebrate the impending release of Rogue Pictures' ping-pong comedy Ball of Fury, the powers that be have lovingly placed a few free downloads up on the XBLM. Available to US and Canada Xbox Live members are two free Ball of Fury downloads including a theme and nine different Balls of Fury gamer pictures. The gamer pics feature a bunch of characters from the movie and the theme is pretty decent as the guide displays a ping-pong paddle and balls tiled in a sexually suggestive manner with Christopher Walken used as the background for the Media blade ... 'nough said. So, we advise giving the free content a download if you're all about ping-pong, balls, or Christopher Walken.

We advise US Xbox Live members to swim on over to the XBLM to download a few newly free themes and gamer pictures. Discovery Channel is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Shark Week by giving away a (somewhat bland) shark theme and a set of shark gamer pictures. And what more can we say, they're sharky? But if you hate sharks or just like Doritos, then you'll be pleased to know that there is also a free Unlock Xbox inspired theme and gamer picture set available too.And allow us to vent a little here and point out that the Unlock Xbox theme bothers the heck out of us. Why? Because the background colors don't match the freakin' blade colors! It looks like the designers tried to match the colors, but got sort of confused by the time they painted the media blade. Hey theme makers, is it that hard to match a few colors? End rant.Read - Free Shark Week downloadsRead - Free Unlock Xbox downloads

  • Theremin theme: The Legend of Zelda

Our scheme to slowly convert this site into ThereminFanboy continues with a video from Randy George, a clasically-trained chamber musician who recorded himself playing The Legend of Zelda's overworld theme with the synthy gadget. For those of you who still aren't hip to the workings of a thereminvox, it's a fully electronic musical instrument with two antennas that control pitch and volume. Designed to be played without ever being touched, its harmonies have been described as "music from the ether." Sounds wild? This was all dreamed up by Russian physicist Lev Termen in 1919. He later went on to invent motion detectors for automated doors and KGB espionage devices. Head past the post break for video of Randy's performance.

The era of fan-played game music has just ended, thanks to this video. Can your nerdcore, forget your a cappella renditions of classic video game themes, and cancel your tour, because these people have just won. It's over. We're banning all video game music reproductions starting ... now. Why? Because the Tesla coil in the video after the jump is rocking out with Super Mario Bros. and Tetris themes, and it's just about the coolest (sparkinest?) thing we've ever seen.

This week was such a killer on the news front that we decided it might be a good idea to seek out a kinder, gentler week-ending video. Something ... soothing. And something that makes us all wish we could play the guitar as well as this guy does as he picks out the Mario theme. Check it out after the jump.Of course, we've got to ask: anyone else playing (or trying to play) game themes on their own?

  • 360 Queenz theme too mature for Marketplace

    05.02.2007

It looks like Microsoft put their foot down and stopped the sexually charged 360 Queenz theme and gamer pictures from making it to the XBLM. Deacon, the guy who posted the exclusive 360 Queenz preview, updated the Unscripted 360 community saying that "Microsoft isn't going to release it for whatever reason. too provocative? please. if this is too provocative then i'm at a loss for words". So, it's looking like those painted 360 girls won't be coming to an XBLM near you, because Microsoft thinks the whole thing reeks of bad taste. But look on the bright side, you are now free to spend those 150 Microsoft points that you were saving up. What's your opinion on this? Do you think those 360 Queenz were a little too sexy for the Marketplace or did Microsoft overreact just a bit? Vent away fanboys ...[Thanks, AoE]

Just to make up for ... exposing you to the bleak outlook on the part of the Live community we should best ignore, here's something that will make sure you want to boot to your dashboard every time you start up your 360. Konsole Kingz is bringing us the 360 Queens to Xbox Live Marketplace, in the form of a Dashboard Theme and some gamerpics. All we can say is, "Daaaamn". We have the sneaking suspicion we'll be checking our System blade's preferences far more frequently. The theme will go for 150 MS Points and the picture pack for 80, so that's a fair price for some nice eye candy. Would you want to spice up your 360 with this theme? In case you're too distracted to notice, the rest of the blades can be seen by clicking the "Read" link. Which one's your favorite?[Via Unscripted360, Thanks Channing Lee]

  • Free Pac-Man tournament theme available

In honor of a certain Pac-Man tournament that kicked off this week, you can download a free Pac-Man tournament theme from the XBLM. But we're a little embarrassed to say that we couldn't specifically nail down where you can download it other than by clicking on a rotating advertising banner. So, you may have to dig around the Marketplace until you find a Pac-Man ad. We guess it was a little too hard for the XBLM gods to put the theme in the gamer pictures and themes new releases section. Oh well, it's pretty interesting, free, and therefore worth all the XBLM detective work. So give it a download ... if you can find it.

Excuse us if this post has a typo in it or something. We're dividing our time between writing it and packing up all our worldly possessions. You see, it's ... well, there's a Gyakuten Saiban 4 cell phone theme for the FOMA 903i that makes your phone's menu look like the game's menu, and puts GS4 backgrounds, animations, and sounds on the phone. It even has special screens associated with things like sending mail and receiving phone calls.Every time we use our only partially-themed phone (which only has a Phoenix Wright background and ringtone, and nothing else) causes us pain. We have to go to Japan, immediately.

With next month's quiet release of the movie Pathfinder we receive a few free downloads off of the XBLM. Right now you can get a free Pathfinder theme (which isn't anything spectacular) and a picture pack. The picture pack is actually pretty good, featuring a few creature pics and even a skull! Nothing says "I'm hardcore" like a gamer picture featuring a skull. Very l33t indeed. And for our worldly fanboys, we're pretty sure this content is only available to US residents and possibly Canada. Hey, we don't make the rules.

  • Remixed medley of The Legend of Zelda's soundtrack

One of our favorite touches of the new Phantom Hourglass' trailer shown at this year's GDC event was its use of the reworked Hyrule Castle theme from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. If there's one thing we love, it's retro tracks brought back for another round. That's why we're featuring a medley of songs from the original Zelda game (NES) remixed by electronica musician Ochre, for your Sunday listening pleasure. We imagine that trying to add anything on top of Koji Kondo's classic work without ruining it is a difficult task, but this arrangement doesn't miss a step. Ochre's interpretation blends the 8-bit pieces with his own playful style, taking the listener through a six-minute daydream of Link's adventures. If you're a fan of lush synths and summery rhythms, we definitely suggest downloading this song along with Ochre's other remixes and original offerings at his site. [Via The New Gamer]

Today's free XBLM downloads are movie related themes and gamer pictures that are available to a worldly audience. First off is the free Eragon theme available to most of Europe and only Europe. The other downloads are for the movie The Reaping (featuring that swanky Hilary Swank) and include both a theme and a set of gamer pictures. And be sure to note that The Reaping's free downloads are only offered to United States residents ... Canada gets shafted this time, sorry guys. We just rang the free downloads dinner bell, so go get your content already!

If you have a hankering to tweak your UIQ 3.0 handset's look and feel, UIQ Technology has you covered with a series of downloadable themes for your viewing enjoyment. Compatible with Sony Ericsson W950, P990, M600, and soon the Motorola MOTORIZR Z8, these themes alter the shape and color of the user interface controls, wallpaper, and even device sounds. Released as part of the UIQ Themes campaign, there were originally supposed to be 5 themes available, but we can peep six on the theme page. We definitely think that the 6th and last is the best of the lot; a Gaudi inspired trencadis named Barcelona.

Xbox Live members can head to the XBLM to download a free theme and gamer pictures for upcoming movie Disturbia. Free content from the marketing folks at the movies, sweet! Though, the free theme is kind of sad with a plain guide and the blade backgrounds being rather dull. But the gamer pictures are pretty good, including the eerie logo for the movie (as seen above). Go forth and download the free content, market thy movie, and spread the word of Disturbia!

In love with competitive figure skating and just can't wait for the Olympics? Well, we didn't think so, but Will Ferrell's new comedy Blades of Glory is about figure skating and looks quite funny. And on the XBLM you can download a free movie theme and a set of gamer pictures. The theme is pretty okay, as the guide isn't the plain jane light gray we usually see. And we'll just say the gamer pictures are "goodish", if goodish is a word. Did we mention we enjoy free themes and gamer pictures? For some reason if the content is free we couldn't care less it was advertising shaving cream or the Smucker's jam ... we just love our free content. Anyway, time to download, you know what to do.

  • Halo theme could join Guitar Hero II set list

    02.26.2007

According to the March issue of OXM, Steve Vai's guitar-charged "Halo Theme (Mjolnir Mix)" could be a downloadable track for Guitar Hero II. Heck, if Spartan-458 can jiggle in Dead or Alive 4, then Halo 2's theme can be strummed along to in the GHII encore. This is one Halo rumor that smells probable; if not simply because it screams, "impulse buy!"Assuming we'd have to pay to play, the Halo theme has the potential to pocket as many micropayments as just about any licensed track imaginable. This is the Xbox 360 venue, folks, where Master Chief is as big as any 'Rock God' -- dead or alive.

We may have seen the theme played on 15 different instruments, however we never imagined a group would get together and do the theme with bottles. The theme is impressively correct and the video demonstrates an equally-impressive coordination from all participants involved. As usual, we've embedded the video past the post break and suggest you check it out post-haste.[via 1P Start]
