Sixty million ThinkPads sold to date, Lenovo updates the T Series with NVIDIA Optimus in celebration
Boy, have we covered scores of ThinkPad laptops in the last few years -- everything from the introduction of the X300 to the first dualscreen W700 workstation to the older R50e that left unforgettable burn marks in a mattress have graced our internet pages. We apologize for getting all nostalgic, but hearing that sales of ThinkPad laptops will surpass 60 million this month just gets us all sappy. Actually, Lenovo's estimating that 14 ThinkPad laptops are sold every 60 seconds -- it's certainly impressive, but obviously the history of the company's business laptops must go onward and upward. And the updated T Series is a step in that direction. Starting today, the T410, T410s and T510 will have an NVIDIA NVS 3100M GPU option and rely on Optimus to take care of the dynamically switching between the integrated and discrete graphics. While we're a bit bummed they're not using the newest 400M Series, the rigs are the first with Optimus to be able to dock and then drive four simultaneous displays. All T Series models are available with Core i5 CPU options and a selection of hard drives / SSD options -- the T410 / T510 will start at $1,299 and the thinner T410s at $1,849. We guess this is where we raise our coffee mugs and say, "Here's to the next 60 mil, Lenovo!" %Gallery-104219% Update: Hot Hardware is reporting that Lenovo's tinkered with the Optimus implementation a bit so that both the integrated and discrete GPUs can run at the same time. ThinkPad T410 has its innards exposed for the sake of a component upgrade guide
What's better than a ThinkPad? Why, a torn down ThinkPad, of course. Some enterprising souls over at ThinkPads.com have put together a memory and hard drive upgrade guide, which includes a number of illustrative shots displaying the exposed hardware. It turns out that the T410 is the first (outside of the T400s and older T4x models) T-series laptop to offer easy access to memory upgrades via the back of the machine. We're told that since the T60 came out, all RAM replacements have had to be performed by removing the keyboard to access the slots. That's still the case for one of the sticks, but at least the other one is accessible via the back, and there's also great praise heaped on Lenovo for their "perfect" slide-out hard drive tray, which apparently makes upgrading a cinch. Lenovo T410 gets unboxed, handled, reviewed
Ready for some hot ThinkPad action? Lenovo's shipping out its new ThinkPad T410, and like clockwork an unboxing video has arrived. (This is the Core i5 T410, not the brand-new Core i3 T410i -- confused? Yeah.) Changes to the venerable T400 formula are minor, apart from the new Core 2010 processors inside -- the trackpad is the same nice dimpled multitouch unit we fell in love with on the T400s, a powered USB port for charging other devices, a DisplayPort instead of DVI, and... a modem port? You just keep on being crazy, Lenny. Don't you ever change. Check it on video after the break. Update: Laptop has a review up -- as you'd expect, it fared quite well.
Lenovo T410s leaks out, features not one but two ThinkLights
Two Lenovo leaks in one day? Our cup runneth over. It feels like we just played with the T400s and the T400s touch just yesterday, but we did see some leaked slides forecasting a T410s for January back in June, so these images are basically right on schedule. Big changes include a couple more USB ports here and there, some cleaned-up design, and -- big news -- the addition of a second display-mounted ThinkLight keyboard light. That's simply decadence, friends. No word on specs, pricing or a release date, but we've got a feeling we'll be finding out more real soon. [Thanks, Adam]
